I would be a little careful about the T-shirt in Japan.
It's possible that some people there may consider it offensive, I don't know.

Elizabeth (the gal from Morimoto's who was able to read it) didn't mention anything about it being offensive.

That's the nice thing about being an Asian-American visiting Asia. I look like a native, until I have to speak.

Thanks for the advance "tips". I have a new craps strategy that I want to try and fewer players on the table (just my BFF and I) plus the lower denominations will make it easier for me to test.

We'll be trying to his 3 or 4 of the bigger casinos.

Well, almost time to pick up my ex-wife at the train station. Then my friend is picking me up to go to the airport (SFO).

The next time I post may be from Taiwan, or after I check in to the "Robot Hotel". I'll see if the robot dinosaur will take a selfie with me.

    See you in about 20 hours. . . . .

OK, so right now I'm inn the Taipei airport, waiting for my flight to Fukuoka. I figured I get ahead of the TR.

Had a quick bite to eat at A Japanese restaurant at the airport. We all got there plenty early. We used Les' status to get priority boarding.

Left SFO at 12:30AM, arrived in Taipei 5AM local time on Wednesday.

The flight was not at all full, and there were plenty of seats to be had if you moved to the ear cabin. I stayed put. The flight was pretty much uneventful, but did remind me of things that I had missed by not traveling internationally all these years.

First of all, I forgot how good the food service was on international flights. 2 full meals on this flight.

Each seat has a monitor with Movies, games, music, all included with the airfare.
    upload_2018-3-13_16-1-44.png
Dinner was served shortly after takeoff, and I chose the Braised Chicken stew. Very goo and very filling. The tiramisu was excellent
    upload_2018-3-13_16-2-3.png
I did fall asleep a little, but when I woke up to find that we weren't even halfway there, I was a little disappointed.
Rewatched Justice League, and watched Gary Oldman in the Churchill movie. The Shape of Water was also playing, but I couldn't bring myself to watch it.
So, 14 hours later, we landed. Les, Conner ("C's" new nom de plume), and I went through secondary security and sat down to eat. Many restaurants take the US dollar so if you're just traveling through, you don't need to exchange currency.
We ate at a restaurant that took US dollars, and I'm not quite sure if it matched up.
    upload_2018-3-13_16-2-39.png
    upload_2018-3-13_16-3-3.png

    Les had XLB (Soup Dumplings)
    upload_2018-3-13_16-3-27.png

    and I had the #11
    upload_2018-3-13_16-4-10.png
Turned out to be $30 USD, which conbverts to 877 TWD according to the exchange rate. $250 TWD = $8.53 USD

Les, Conner and I split up, since they're going on to Manila and I'm going to Fukuoka.

OK, a couple of notes. I need to get a grip, since I'm in a foreign country, but I won't tolerate rudeness. As we were deplaning, an Asian man tried "bullying" his way down the aisle. No one was moving, they hadn't even opened the doors. I turned around and told him. "Just wait. Don't be in such a hurry, the line isn't moving". My bag was firmly planted in the aisle. He gave me the FOB grin that said "I don't Understand a word that you said", but then, I realized that in Taiwan, I am the FOB, so I can't use that term while I'm here. I guess the new term is "RAG" for Rude Asian Guy/Gal.

OK, the next update will be on the train from Fukuoka to Sasebo, where I will tell you about my dinner date for the evening. No, it's not a robot.

Oh, the flight crew just arrived. Lots of "Ho leng nuis" (pretty girls)

My ex-gf recommended EVA Air to me and flew that on the same route on the way to Tokyo. I really enjoyed it and flight attendants were awesome.

OK, finally made it to Sasebo and Henn-na hotel.

The morning flight from Taipei was uneventful.

    Breakfast in Economy class was:

    upload_2018-3-14_0-30-39.png

    upload_2018-3-14_0-30-50.png
    upload_2018-3-14_0-31-1.png

Got into Fukuoka and made it through customs. I kinda screwed up by not having the detailed itinerary handy. But, I finally made it to Hakata Bus/Train Station and on the train to Huis Ten Bosch. Then I realized that I had been pronouncing it wrong all this time. It's Huis Ten Bosch, but pronounced House Ten Bosch.

I took reserved seating and sat in A1 in the front car, right behind the train driver.
    upload_2018-3-14_0-34-5.png

It wasn't high speed rail, but she did get it up to 130km/hr (about 85) in some stretches.

OK, here's where it got kinda lame . . . .I got off the train, and because I "did it myself" I didn't have the second ticket that was necessary to enter Huis Ten Bosch. Once I got that straightened out, I then found out that the Henn-na hotel was outside the park and too far for me to walk, so I got on the shuttle and got dropped off at the front door.

This is in the outside lobby

These are some of the exhibits inside the hotel.
    upload_2018-3-14_0-37-16.png
    upload_2018-3-14_0-37-25.png
Then, there was a problem at check in and they had to call a human staff member to sort it out. I use a shortened version of my name to book the reservation and it didn't match my passport. Easily solved, but . . . robots can't do everything.

The room is typical Japanese. Very small don't book this is you are claustrophobic.

    The bathrooms are tiny

And of course, as all newer Japanese hotels have, a bidet. Here's the control panel.

    upload_2018-3-14_0-42-18.png

As a last note, I want to give a shout out to my good friend "J" who bought me this nice toiletry bag

    upload_2018-3-14_0-43-3.png

OK, so now I'm gonna take a nap, because my internal clock is all screwed up. My dinner date is now just a "maybe", because I can't find her. But, I know where the pachinko parlor is, so it won't be a total loss.

Well, DeeDee flaked on me (for now), so I headed out to eat dinner by myself.

Hmmmmmm sushi or japanese curry? Well, curry won the battle, in part because it was closer to the train station than the sushi restaurant.

    upload_2018-3-14_4-33-31.png
Coco Ichibanaya. I picked this place because it was a short walk, inexpensive, and they had an English menu. (I had already scoped them out on the web before I left),

Very flexible menu, like most Japanese Curry houses I've eaten at. They really allow you to customize your meal.

I had the special "good luck, hand made Hirekatsu curry. Spice level 2 and added corn. The waitress spoke very little English and was very patient with me.

    Here's what it looked like

    upload_2018-3-14_4-41-17.png

Very very good, and so was the price.

    upload_2018-3-14_4-42-0.png

$11.00, according to the official exchange rate.

I was full and didn't look forward to the one mile and uphill walk to the hotel, so I wussed out and took a cab.

It's 8:45PM local time and I think I'm cooked. Still can't find DeeDee, oh well, her (potential) loss.

I'm gonna get up early and take in the Theme park, but I reserve the right to change my mind and go play pachinko. The Pachinko parlor near the train station was closed, so I've gotta go to a backup.

Well, it's 4:30AM local time. My biological clock is almost back to "normal". Les and Conner haven't updated me on their status other than to say that they "got there".

I just got upgraded to Business class on the PAL flight to Manila tomorrow. Costme $200, but it's a 4 hour flight and I will probably need to relax after the challenges of getting to the airport on time.

Went up to the lobby for a quick "snack" before breakfast.

Was gonna start collecting my "souvenirs" for friends back home, but well, OK, having made my last 30+ trips to Las Vegas, I guess I'm "spoiled" and there's a few things that I hadn't considered.
1)Make sure that you break down your bills before to get to wherever it is that you're going. Right now I'm stuck with four - 10000 yen bills, which would be the equivalent of $100 bills, and the largest that vending machines take is 1000 yen. I can't find an ATM and the robots are "shut down" until 6AM.
2)The hotel is "dead" after hours. I may walk across the street to see if they have an ATM or can break my 10000 Yen bills.

So, I had one 1000 Yen bill left, I just checked my reservation and I do have "the breakfast plan", but the restaurant doesn't open until 7AM, so I went over to the hot food machine. Everything was 500 Yen, they had hamburgers, French Fries, and yakisoba (From Just One Cookbook: yakisoba is a classic Japanese stir fry noodles dish with pork and vegetables, and it’s seasoned with a sweet & savory sauce similar to Worcestershire sauce. ...)
    HNH_foodmachine_01.jpg
Put in my 1000 yen bill, and 2 minutes later, this popped out.
    upload_2018-3-14_13-29-12.png
upload_2018-3-14_13-31-2.png Hot to the touch, but not to hot for me to carry without additional protection.
    upload_2018-3-14_13-31-26.png
Oops, forgot to take a picture with the plastic removed. Sorry!!

It was very good. Just the right amount of sauce, and not too spicy.

Anyway, I think I'm gonna mosey across the street to the "full service" hotel (not what you think, guys . . . . ) and see if I can get some addl cash or get these bills broken down.

OK, stupid gaijin (foreigner) that I am, there WAS a machine that would break down 10000 Yen notes inside my own hotel. So, I broke down a couple of notes, bought my "quota" of souvenirs (may buy more before I'm done.

Also bought a Caramel Macchiato from a machine. Very good . . . who needs baristas (sorry to any baristas I may have offended)

Breakfast opens at 6:30AM, so in a half hour, I'll mosey on over for breakfast and see what they're serving.,
