  1. Hi Everyone!

Left Milwaukee Sunday at 9:00. Flew ATA (Funjet vacation)Flight was great. Had a little turblance right as I was going to ask my brother if he wanted to ride the coaster at NYNY...but then said forget it, the turblance took care of any thrill I needed. Arrived at Tropicana, checked our bags and headed in to get our Bloody Mary then players card. Played for a couple of hours. Machines were good...letting us play. At checkin, tried the $20/tip for upgrade. Didn't work, but got an upgrade anyway to the Paradise Tower Suite. Very nice room and nice view. Had mentioned to the check-in clerk it was my B-day, and to our surprise when we got up to our room there was a small b-day cake, chocolate covered strawberries, 2 bottles of champagne and a b-day card. Very nice touch! While I was watching the free airshow that night I was playing a $1.00 wheel of fortune, got a spin, looked away to watch the show, and how about that..my spin landed on $500. Took my winnings and went to bed :)Its about midnight..long day.

Woke at 3:30 Monday morning, showered went down stairs and hit $250 on a $ .25 Yahtzee slot. Feeling pretty lucky. My brother and sister are not doing well. We then walked to MGM, Luxor and Mandalay Bay. Played a little at all. Saw a lady right next to me get 3 sizzling 7's. Very exciting. I hit 500 more quarters at Mandalay and we headed back to Trop. Had lunch at Calypso and went to the pool. Very nice pool area and the weather was a perfect 90.

That night my luck started running out, but my sisters picked up. She kept hitting on the VP machine at the bar. She took $1000 out one time, $400 out another and $200 out another. She was also playing a few nickels and hit 5,500 nickels..about $300 bucks! She was the winner. We ate all our meals at the Trop between Calypsos, Savannahs, and the deli. We charged everything to the room. By the time we redeemed all of our credits..we had over $600 in comps coming, I had $100 of cash back they gave me, my sister about $80 and my brother about $40. Not too bad. Paid for all of our meals and most of the room.

I was terribly worried about staying at the Trop being an older hotel, but I tell ya...I'd stay there again. The service was excellent, cocktail waitresses very quick, meals in the restaurants very good.

Can't wait until next year [IMG]

That was a nice touch by the Tropicana to help you celebrate your birthday.

    Hey VG,

I do have a few questions about Trop.....

I see that you got a upgrade to a suite. Do you think is was because of your b-day. Was it based on previous play? If I can't get an upgarde to a suite, is there a particular section of tower that I should ask for? I did say in my pre-trip report that that I figured Trop was a place just to lay your head, but you made it sound better.

So now I figure that if I can get something better for the same price, I might as well ask.

Any suggestions? Also thanks for the reviews on the food...I'll be hoping around but it's good to know. How was the Bloody Marys? I know MB has great ones. I never drink them until I'm in Vegas...it's my morning drink...thanks for the report.

    Trips to Las Vegas:
I stayed at the Trop April 2002 and thought it was great for the price. The pool area is great and it is heated (but not too hot).

We stayed in the Island Tower rooms which are the furthest from the casino but I didn't mind the walk and thought our room was fine except the AC didn't work that great but it was April and not wicked hot out.

My gambling experience at the Trop was not great and all I was comped was one night, no food or any of my bar bills, [IMG] and my husband and I were playing quarter slots maximum each time so I'm not sure why I didn't get comped more but whatever.

The only restaurant we ate in at the Trop was Calyposo and they had 2 for 1 burgers and I have to say they were GREAT!

    Enjoy your trip.

Great trip report! That was nice of the Tropicana to help you celebrate your birthday. My wife and I stayed there in the Paradise Tower on three trips to Vegas last year. The first trip was for our anniversary and I did mention this when we checked in. And no, there wasn't any champagne waiting for us.

The only problem we've had with the Tropicana was with some confusion about whether or not a room was comped up front. I was led to believe it was but I didn't think to ask on this trip. The dispute was settled to our satisfaction but we weren't to happy at checkout time.

I guess the 'Beat the Chicken' contest is gone which is fine with me. I never enjoyed waiting on line anyway just to get beat in 'Tic tac toe' by a chicken. We'll be back to the Tropicana on 6/19 and we're hoping to try their new Italian restaurant.

  7. Hey Ronster:

Sorry I did not answer questions earlier..I'm having terrible L.Vegas Blues. I want to go back soon. I've been checking into air fare and hotel rates since the day I got back..but I think I'd have the big "D" papers waiting for me upon my return from the hubby. I'll just keep living through every bodys posts for now :(

At the Trop...When we asked for the upgrade..I tried the $20 trick...She just laughed and said.."oh no..I'm just doing my job sweetie" & truly made my sister and I believe the upgrade was on them. Well, when we got our bill, of course it wasn't on the house. I don't know what tower we were in..sorry I can't help. I know we had a great view of the MGM & NYNY.

We used our Players cards religiously and we did most of our gambling at the trop. I think our $650 in comps was due to the fact the 3 of us stayed in 1 room and for some reason they combined all of credits together. Typically they do not do this unless your a married couple. So this worked out for us as well. When you have 3 people playing ALOT of $$$$$$$$...those comps added up I guess.

The bloody mary's were awesome...I had extra spice's added to mine for some added zip.

Can't wait to read more Trip Reports...keep em coming.

Nice report! I know what you mean about turbulance while flying .. not my favorite thing either! Isn't the Trop where they have the "swim up" BJ?
Good for your sister... winning at VP. It is so nice to win towards the end of the trip!!

The Trop has some of the nicest people working there and staying there!!! I wish I could be there for my B-Day, but my schedule would never let me. Would you happen to remember your room number? I am a VIP there and I always ask for the same room(not far from the casino easy to crawl to the room). I assumed there were no suites in the Paradise Tower. Have always been treated well and won there. [IMG]
  10. Hi thejoy2:

I believe our room was in the Paradise Tower. When you walk into the front doors of the hotel/Casino...there are 4 elevators to your right..took those up and I believe our room number was 3104.

How do you become a VIP? Would love to hear about that.

Thank you...and here's to watching the calendar for the next trip [IMG]
