    My Trip Report

This trip report will not be very exciting as I have no pics, but wanted to share my experience. This is my 70ish trip to Vegas and met up with my two cousins and his wife (all on different flights). Staying at NYNY on Sat, then PH on Sun/Mon (all rooms for each of us comped). I'll post one day at a time since I'm at work.

Sat 11/3 - 4:30p flight out of MSP. Flew Spirit for the first time and it was an ok experience. I only had a backpack on me so didn't need to pay for any carry-on. The flight itself was ok, but I probably won't fly Spirit again. I flew Delta on the way home and miss the small amenities that they have (eg; seat entertainment in all seats, etc). Arrive at LAS around 6p and head to the rental hub. First time using Budget with FastBreak and it is just as smooth as Alamo's Insider. Drove to PH and had my cousins meet me up to place our NFL bets there since we are staying at PH Sun/Mon. Placed 5 $100 single game bets and 1 7-team parlay, 1 teaser and 1 super teaser. After our bets, we head to our 8:30p reservation at Kabuto. Arrived at 8:10ish and they seated us immediately. All of us ordered the $48 10-piece Nigiri omakase. The overall experience was really good, however I think the sushi itself was mediocre. I wasn't expecting knock your socks off/life-changing sushi, but I thought the taste/quality was slightly above what I get back home in Minneapolis. Afterwards, stopped at Peppermill for a drink, then Pho Kim Long for a late night bowl of Pho. We are Vietnamese and one of my cousins wanted to come back here (we have been here once before), but I personally am not a fan. I think the Pho at Pho So 1 is better than Kim Long, but to each their own I guess. Drive back and decide to park at Tropicana and walk to NYNY because I'm cheap like that. It's about midnight (2am my time) so we call it a night.

Sun 11/4 - wake up at 4:30a since my body thinks its 7:30a with the time difference and daylight savings. Go downstairs with one of my cousin's and hit the crap table. Up and down and left an hour later about even. My other cousin come down and wants to play bubble craps (he's rather novice and prefers this). He ends up +200 just playing $5 on the pass and $10 behind (I guess you can only go 2x behind on the bubble craps machines). I walk around aimlessly and spot a Simpson's machine close to the elevators. I am not a slot player, but after reading so many TR's, it seems everyone plays slots, so i give it a try. $100 in and about 20 spins later hit a bonus. Catch some sprinkles and cash out for $400. Think I might give this slots thing a try ;) Around 8:30a, one of my cousin's and I head to the car to find a breakfast spot. After debating and consulting with Google, we head to Fat Choy's which opens at 9a. Sit down at the bar and we order the Pork Belly Bao, Duck Bao and Fat Choy burger and split it all. The Duck Bao was ok, but the Pork Belly Bao and Fay Choy burger were amazing. Will definitely be back for them. Head back to NYNY afterwards to check out, then to PH. Arrive around 11a and attempt to check in at the self-service kiosk, but it lets us know that we can't check in until noon. Watch NFL until noon and check in at the kiosk. It is pretty slick and opted for the $10 room credit to bypass housekeeping. Relax in the room and watch NFL. I watch my phone as all 5 of my single game bets win (Balt/Pitt under, Chiefs -9, Jets/Mia under, Bears -10, Carolina -6)! Not only that but my 7-team parlay ($10 to win $830) is still alive with two to go (Rams/saints over 60.5 and Dal/Tenn under 40.5. I hedge the rams game, then the Dal game (Dallas killed the parlay, but at the end of the day, I make $200 from hedging the parlay...so overall my football bets are +$670).

We all decided to do the Wynn buffet for lunch/dinner. Since our bodies are three hours after Vegas time, we decide to hit the Wynn buffet at 3pm. The Sunday brunch dinner changeover happens at 3:30p. We are in line at about 3:05pm and there's only a handful of people in line. We were charged brunch prices ($37 I believe) so that was cool. There is a charge for parking at the Wynn, but they said if you spend more than $50 at the buffet, they validate, so my cousin paid for both of us to validate. I've been to the Bellagio and Bachannal in the past, so wanted to try it out to see which I liked best (need to try Wicked Spoon at some point in the future as well). I was dissapointed in the Bellagio when I went years ago. I tried Bachannal two years ago and that was a big meh, so I was hoping Wynn would pick it up. Nope. Nothing stood out and everything was just mediocre for me. Perhaps I'm not buffet guy, but I still need to try Wicked Spoon at some point.

After the buffet, I head to SouthPoint to play the 6:00p tourney. About 140 players. Played well but had to tighten my game initially as there was a super aggressive player just to my right. Couple hours in the super LAG guy busts and I double through an old guy to my left when he shoves over my initial raise with KK (he shoved with 88). Table breaks and I get a table I think is good for my game. I take out another player when I make a call for half my stack with my AK running down 10-10. About 50 players left when I get crippled. I'm on the button in Seat 1. Seat 6 limps, seat 7 limps, I raise 4x with QQ. Seat 6 shoves for 90% of my stack and seat 7 folds. I didn't put him on AA or KK since he limped. I put him on 10-10 or 9-9 and maybe AK/AQ. I make the call and he turns over AK. Flop has a Q in the window, but is followed by a J and a 10. He flops broadway to my set, and the board doesn't pair. I make a couple of successful <10bb shoves that go uncalled. Final hand before second break, I shove with QQ and the guy who crippled me earlier calls with KK and I'm out. I thought the SouthPoint poker room was ok. Seemed to be a locals joint. May come back in the future to play this tourney again. Head back to PH and end up playing some Buffalo Gold. Cashed out +150, then call it a night.

Mon 11/5 - Woke up about 6a and went down the the crap table with my cuz. Played for and hour, up and down and walked away slightly ahead. We decided to get bfast at Mon Ami Gabi. A little busy but were able to get a patio seat for two almost immediately. I love eggs Benedict and read that this place make a good one. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy them as much as others have I guess. Ambiance was nice and service was good, but if I want eggs benny again, i'll try Fat Choy or Egg & I next time. Afterwards, my cousin wanted to play a poker tourney, but he is somewhat of a novice, and wanted a low buy in, so I look up Poker Atlas and decide on the $25 Sam's Town at 10a. Started with 3 tables and ended up with 30 total runners. The first 3 levels (20min levels) is limit, then afterward no limit, which was very interesting. This tourney had many old folks and many did not understand how the limit betting worked. I'm not a limit player myself, but understood the pattern after one hand. Seemed almost every hand the incorrect bets were made (for the first hour that is). I made it to final table when this hand cripples me. I'm UTG with KK and raise 2.5x. Folds around to the button who initially calls the BB, but is told by the dealer that there was a raise (this happened multiple times during my play there). The button looks confused, but eventually calls. Flop come 2-6-9 rainbow. I bet 1/2 the pot and button goes all in. With the structure of a $25 tourney, no one has more than 20 bigs. I call and he turns over 9-9 for a set. I bust two hands later. Head back to PH to relax and play some slots. Hit the Buffalo Gold machine again by the entrance and it is still good to me (+75). Around 2p, my cousin decides he wants to roll dice at CP (my other cuz and his wife drove to the Grand Canyon that morning), and I was going to meet a longtime friend for a late lunch, but he can't meet until 5, so I decide to use my $10 credit at a restaurant at PH. I initially went to Nacho Daddy (located outside of the hotel on the Harmon side), but they did not allow for room charges. I head back in and wait in line at GR Burger. Get seated at the bar and ordered the Farmhouse burger ($17) and Fries ($8). I was thoroughly unimpressed with both. From my reviews above, it seems like I'm hard to please, but believe me, i'm not that picky. I just wasn't impressed with their burger, and even more unimpressed with the fries. I don't mind shelling out $25 for a burger and fries, but not for a mediocre one such as this. I would take the Fat Choy burger over this any day of the week. 5p comes and meet my buddy who recently moved here for dinner. He comes to me and decides on PBR at PH. I am still full, but order a Moscow Mule. The waitress said it was 2-4-1 happy hour but only delivered one (this was at 5:20). She didn't come back to our table until 6:05. When I asked for the second one of the 2-4-1, she said she couldn't because happy hour ended at 6. What? Whatever...my buddy was not happy with the service so we just decide to leave without putting up a fight. Watch the rest of the game and see my $10-$830 parlay crash when the Titans score the final touchdown to push the total to 42. I did hedge the parlay, but would have won more if the parlay hit. After the game, my cousin and his wife (who were at GC earlier) were having dinner at China Poblano. I wanted to try the Lengua taco, but was still full from the burger. Afterwards, we walked to Linq as my cuz wanted to roll dice there (he won $450 earlier that day at Linq). It was weird walking in there. I haven't been inside Linq since it was Imperial Palace. Everthing looked way different (except the escalators that went upstairs near the middle of the casino). My cus who won earlier finds the same shooter that made him money earlier, and it did not work out. I drop $300 in about 15 minutes before I decide to cut my losses. We head back to PH and all crash.

Tues 11/6 - 6a - One of my cuz is on my flight (9:20a) so we decide to check out together and get bfast before we head to the airport. I play Buffalo gold one last time and have a small win ($25). I don't know what it was, but I did not have a losing session in slots this weekend. It was my first time playing slots, but I still don't like the odds and won't be aggressive on it. I'll just play it for fun/pass the time. We decide to head to In-N-Out for bfast and drive to the Tropicana location. Much to my dismay, they do not open until 10:30a. I was a surprised as I thought it was 24/7, but I guess not. We now need to rush to eat and end up at a Carl's Jr (whopee). On the way to the rental up, I top off on gas. When I push for the receipt button, nothing comes up...oh well, I didn't want to bother going in to get it so we went on our way. When I arrive at the Budget return, the attendant turns the car on and noticed that the fuel gauge wasn't all the way to the end (maybe 1mm from the end). I noticed this too when I picked up the car initially (Kia Optima). I told the attendant this and assumed that it is as far as the needle would go. She then asks for my gas receipt and I tell her I was unable to print it. After some more convincing, she decides not to charge me for the fuel. So the lesson is, print your fuel receipt before you head back to the rental hub.

So, all in all, it was a successful gambling trip for me. ++$$ NFL/Slots...--$$ Poker/Craps. I tried new restaurants and was dissapointed with all except for Fat Choy. Might be back in June for WSOP, but not sure if I want to do that anymore. If I decide not to do WSOP anymore, not sure when I will be back as I have a 1 and 6 year old that I will travel with me on future trips, so Vegas might not be their first choice in destination (although I can talk them into Resorts World with their indoor waterpark) in a couple years.

Thanks all, and I look forward to hearing about your trips!

Agree 100% with hedging your lotto ticket, I view 7-8 team parlays as futures bets at big odds so whats wrong guaranteeing a 20x return on your money---versus a 7.2x return If bet singularly--- was smart. What's wrong with free money?

At least you had one decent meal in Vegas:rolleyes:

Maybe you can give the pho at Noodles Exchange at Gold Coast a shot next time.

    Good TR!!

@M0rtyC I did do a similar trip report at WSOP in June. @93 Octane I'll check out Noodles Exchange at the Gold Coast next time I'm in town. I'm always trying to find the best Pho in any city I visit. Thanks!
