Trip Report #10: BeeeJay Travels over the Mountains and Through the Desert to Steve Wynn's House we Go!
Sorry this is delayed as I did not have time to write a full report as was am home only 4 days before leaving for Ft. Lauderdale with the whole famn damily for the kiddos spring break.....I see the college coeds have all wrapped up their spring breaks and at best I'll see empty bottles and no full bikinis on the beach....what a drag duuuuude.
Anyway, this Vegas trip represent part of the outward leg of my 21 day road trip from Chicago to Phoenix .
I left Chicago on Thursday, March 19th shortly after rush hour, my car stocked with a cooler full of Diet Mtn. Dew, Diet Lipton Green Tea, a 1.75 of Skyy Vodka for my sister, and Clif Chocolate Chip bars. I’ll roll quickly thru the non-vegas part.
I drove to my sisters in Lincoln , Nebraska where she did some dental work on me and we spent a couple days downing that Skyy Vodka with friends. Met up with old friends from college—Nate, and work—Wendy. Good times and hope they can make it out to Vegas one of these trips. After Lincoln I drove to Grand Junction , CO (after stopping for a Runza in Ogallala) and stayed on points at the Doubletree out there for one night. Wasn’t feeling too well as I believe cold/flu were coming on hard. The next day I made a long and painful drive from Grand Junction , CO to Vegas, primarily made difficult by cold/flu symptoms.

I was ecstatic to finally pull into the Encore self-park garage in the late afternoon of Monday, March 23rd. That parking garage is really nice and handy to the check-in desk. My illness notwithstanding I was pumped to be here. Check-in was smooth and I was not using any comps due to extremely low Encore Resort room rates with resort credit. I headed up to my room and crashed that first night, DOG tired and sick from all the driving and cold/flu.
Given the amount of time I took minimal cash of maybe $600 and limited myself to Amex's with no cash advance capability, a debit card where I could get $500 a day and about $1,650 in promos (that is for both halves of the trip—this report is the first half only).

For this particular leg of the journey I had also reserved 2 night stays at Planet Hollywood and Mandalay Bay on promo offers. The Planet Hollywood came with $100 freeplay and a “surprise†Bday gift which turned out to be a pretty nice black cloth robe with red PH logo. Mandalay Bay offer was a sky suite with $550 promo chips. Unfortunately I must have forgotten to get any pics of these rooms as my primary time spent in them was in the washroom with the coffee table magazines and flu related bathroom problems.
I checked into the new places the morning of the 24th and got the freeplay and gambled it, did pretty well at both. 4 $25 chips at PH along with another matchplay from the fun book they give out yielded $175 in profit. The $550 at Mandalay started out real rough but recovered with one streak hot enough to yield $725. It was way too cold to hit the pool Tuesday so I decided to just eat room service and spend the afternoon resting and watching porn in my room at Encore. Whose Nailin’ Serra Paylin? could be an oscar-caliber film!!!

The next morning I mainly hung out at Encore where gambling highlights included a royal on quarter 10-play for $1,000 along with some 4OAK aces and deuces on 50-cent 10-play double bonus VP. Feeling flush with cash I made a drive over to Mandalay Bay to give some more play and check out the room again while I was feeling better. I got my a$s spanked quickly and painfully and slinked back to Encore for more money.
I decided to go for a walk over to Walgreens for some Gatoraid and more power bars. Ended up playing some at Riviera and Slots-A-Fun, then walked around the outside of the mall, down past TI and into Mirage to play an old favorite VP machine where I had hit some 4OAK previous trips. I put in $100 and cashed out $240, then headed back towards Encore with a longer than expected stop at Palazzo where I had a couple HUGE rolls on craps including one at a $25 table where I was hitting some hardways with $50 and ended up clearing over $2K on the roll.
In the afternoon I spent a little time by the pool. That was enjoyable although I wasn’t smart enough at that time to walk much past the first open seat. If I had been I would have discovered a whole new world of $15 blackjack at the European boob pool. Darn, live and learn I guess. I wasn’t drinking this leg of the trip due to the illness and that made the 3 old lady New Yorkers in on business even more annoying. About 5 minutes after they arrived and we chatted and bolted for the door----and then BOLTED my door. These Cougars were out for young blood, and that ain’t me, but they seemed pretty desperate!
So my one nice day of pool time ruined I had an early room service dinner, love the General Tso’s at Encore and headed down for some low-limit $10 and $15 Blackjack using the Encore players card with a different players number they had given me. Using my Wynn card for larger play. I finally ended up getting like 8 players card #’s linked at some point.
Anywhoo my fave pit boss Jodi (from Chicago) was just getting off so I played craps for a while and then some BJ and made it an early night so I could leave in the AM.

Checked the finances for the trip, and even after paying room, food, etc. on this leg I had won enough to come out $843 ahead for the trip. This calculation also included all gas, food, tips, paying my niece $5 in Nebraska for a drunken late night ride to Amigos, etc.
I packed up, checked out and loaded up the wagon queen family truckster for the drive to Phoenix . Trip report #11 will cover my return trip to Vegas after Phoenix and on my way back to Chicago .
Hope your keyboard isn’t leaving a mark on your forehead after this boring-a$s installment.
