Trips to Las Vegas
12
I've read so many others and enjoyed, so I thought I would share my trip out with the group!

This was the annual trip that user "JerryGuitar" and I take out there together. In the past, we have gone just the two of us, and with many more, so it tends to very. This trip there were 4 guys. The two of us, his brother-in-law (wife's brother), and a common friend. All 4 of us met because we worked at the same company in the early 00s.

We had 3 rooms reserved. One at Flamingo, one at Planet Hollywood to take advantage of a $50 casino play (and other things) and one comped room at Mandaley. In our brilliance, we put 3 guys in 1 room at flamingo, and 1 guy at Mandaley. So the 3 of us rotated between the bed and the floor. Brilliant.

JerryGuitar and I flew in from Cleveland wed. It started off nice with $1 blackjack on the plane, but he wanted to press his bet on my deal, to which I happily complied. Landed in vegas with him oweing me $110! yikes (for him).

We checked in and then headed out. The plan is usually to go to Caesars and play a $100 blackjack hand. Instead we went to Bills and Planet Hollywood. Managed to drop about $500 mostly playing craps. I think that with the economy the way it is, the casino has made the craps games tighter. I couldn't win. Normally I do. I think it is obvious that the reason is tighter craps games.

At planet ho, JerryGuitar took down one of their poker tournies for a nice $400 cash. While he was doing that, I dropped another $200 at craps. More evidence of the bad economy and tighter craps tables.

Called it a night and then thursday went down to the pool for a bit. JG and I went down to the flamingo poker room to play 1/2 NLHE. After losing twice with a set and dropping $300, I went back to craps. And dropped another $400. I think the NLHE tables AND the craps tables are tighter. Bad economy and all.

So then JG suggests we play our "kickoff" $100 hand at flamingo. I can't remember the details, but I believe I had 17 and he had 18 against a dealers K. His under card was a 6. His draw was a 4 making a very mean 20. So I started my day very early down almost 1K and thought I better slow down if I wanted to last to saturday.

We met up with our travel mates at Bills and headed to planet ho for some sports betting. In game 6, I took ORL and gave 7 points. ORL won by 8 and I dodged a loss as boston missed a meaningless shot at the buzzer. That woulda sucked. I also hit 2 money line bets with the red wings and carolina both winning their games 7. going 3/3 was nice, but sadly for me, JG encouraged me to only bet $25 on each. I also managed to win $1 betting on 5 horse races. But it was the first time I had ever picked a horse to win straight up, so that was fun!

After that, we headed downtown. Played at the binions tourny and no one had luck. Played some blackjack at golden gate. played some $5 pai gow at binions and that may have been the funnest part of the trip. JG's brother in law was in rare form. There may or may not be audio evidence of this.

Friday started at planet ho for the buffet. JG and I played some $5 blackjack at bellagio for about 4 hours. My 2nd best time of the trip. I started with memosa. Then went to a baleni. Then to a "Ballagio Cocktail". I tried to order a beer, but the cocktail waitress refused. She was afraid I'd get sick. (I still contend that I would not). So instead I ordered a Crown on the rocks. 2 of them. Then another baleni. Good times. Nothing like being drunk before 5 on a friday. We headed to the Orleans and played some Pai Gow over there. Normally I don't play the fortune bet, and I hadn't for like 2 hours at the table. And with an announcement, I put a bet out there and let my friends know "I had a feeling". First hand, a straight. $2 win - I think I pushed the hand. Next hand, four 6s. Boom...$25 win. I think I pushed the hand also. Next hand, another straight. Then I got 2 pair and no bonus. not a bad $29 "feeling". :)

After that, well, around 10PM, we had our traditional dinner, but it wasn't at Binions Ranch like we normally do, we had it at the Orleans Prime Rib Loft. Very good food and much cheaper. But not the tradition. In traditional form, however, we played credit card roulette and JG's brother in law "won" the bill - which still came out cheaper than it has for JG and I alone at Binions.

After that, back to the strip to Riviera for some more 1/2 NLHE. Won $4. Was up over $100 at one point, but called all in on the turn getting 3:1 with a double belly buster straight draw and flush draw. Turns out she had a flush draw also, but that both my cards were live for a 1 pair draw (she had a baby pair). Didn't hit and I dropped about $100 on that pot. JG did ok...took over $100 off the drunks at his table.

We decided to walk back from RIV to flamingo so we could check out Encore. Long walk, but I was glad we did it since I wanted to see what it was like. The women outside their clubs. holy crap. amazing.

Good times, as always. Dropped about $1600 for the trip, most of it in the first 24 hours. But a good time nonetheless. I hope I didn't drop that much because of the failure to pay homage to Caesar when I first arrive with the $100 hand. You can bet that in the future, that WILL be my first order of business. But I did find a few new drinks that are my new favorites out there, so that alone was a success!

Hope to make it back in 2009 but I say my chances are the same as JQs vs AKo. So you know, there's a chance. ;)

So let's get this straight...you started playing blackjack for money on the plane, and you played Credit Card Roultette for the dinner bill? I'll never call myself a gambler again!

Nice TR, thanks...

Too bad about the tight craps tables, lol. Like you said, must be the bad economy..

YES - I'm interested in that one too......

I have two theories on this. I am glad you asked:

1) Each of the casino dice have magnetic chips placed inside each of the dots on the dice. When the house wants to improve the odds slightly, they increase the magnetic field created by generators placed under the felt. They only do this when there is not a lot of money on the dark side as this will, in effect, cause them to lose more money. So then when they flip the switch, the dice or more likely to land in a way such that the die oppose each other. For example, if a six is face up on one die, the other is much more likely to land with 6 face down, thus resulting in a 7. The switch is controlled upstairs and is the same switch they use to tighten the video poker, NLHE tables, slots, and the buffet.

2) I was being sarcastic and I experienced what they call "varience".

I am going with #2. ;)

Nice report, and love the sarcasm. Although I was a little worried until you repeated it a couple times throughout the story. Definitely hard to pick up sometimes, as you never know a poster's thought.

I enjoyed the sarcasm too and am happy that in spite of my blondeness, I knew it was just that, lol We've been known to gamble for the cheque as well, but I'm not familiar with CC roulette.....how's that played?:o

AAAHHHH, sarcasm. Just in case there is any question, I often go with "quotations".

Enjoyed the trip report. My trip reports seem to be written in the evening after several beers, and somehow lack the humor that adds to the entertainment value. They also tend to lack correct grammar, spelling and punctuation due to the aforementioned beers.

he forgot to mention that we had a bet on the way home about which gate our plane would arrive at. I won :Þ
