    My Trip Report

Here is my great contribution to society for 2020. Nice story of my Las Vegas trip Sunday morning to late Tuesday afternoon.

    DAY 1

I flew on Spirit DFW to Las for $48. Tickets were purchased in April I think. Flight was nearly a full flight. I sat next to someone. At time of ticket purchase Spirit was blocking middle seats. Thanks a lot Spirit. Flight was 6:30AM but Spirit was serving food and drinks so I had 2 Jack and cokes. Score!

Land in LAS and figure I was too lazy to walk to ride share and wait on a car so I went the taxi route. Big mistake as the flat fee to the Luxor was $23. That seemed high.

Arrive at Luxor and not many people inside as it is early but I figured I would try checking in early. I couldn’t believe it when I was able to check into the Luxor just before 8AM!!!! I was staying on a MyVegas 2 night reward and I was moved from pyramid to east tower. I asked if the resort fees ($80) could be waived and I was told no. I read from some sources that hotels were waiving fees but not in my case.

I get to the room and there is tape across the door saying “This room has been cleaned” or something to that effect. Just another little gimmick that shows you how clean and safe the rooms and hotel are. This did nothing for me.

Leave Luxor to go drink and walk the strip. I walk on the east side up to Wynn. I then come back towards the Luxor on the west side. There weren’t many people on the street. This was noticeable my whole trip. Also I thought the sidewalks were quite dirty with trash etc. Planet Hollywood was the worst with trash and filthy sidewalks. PH needs to powerwash the sidewalks.

Resorts World is a big ass cool looking building.

So I get to The Bellagio just in time for the 11AM show. Star Spangled Banner and Con Te Partiro. Very nice. There were maybe 5 people outside watching show. Conservatory was a Japanese theme. Nice but not my favorite.

I get to NYNY thinking I was going to eat at Il Fornaio but nope I was teased in thinking that was open for lunch. I went to America and my dumbass ordered the fettucini alfredo. Food mediocre.

Get to Luxor and take a 1 hour nap. Hey I was up 4AM central/ 2AM vegas time! And I’ve been drinking a lot.

Time to go to the pool. Lots of people at the pool. Too many people really. I pick the pool furthest away from the entrance because it looked less crowded. Water was cold. Kids and people were swimming right up to you not staying away at all. I didn’t like that. I thought pools were to be capacity reduced but not sure if that happened.

Leave and go to eat. I had done some research and wanted to try the new Bugsy & Meyers Steakhouse at the Flamingo. Well I’m walking north to Flamingo and crossing over Flamingo I see the Battistas Hole in the Wall Sign. I say screw Bugsy I want to go to Battistas because Ive still never been there and I wanted free wine no matter how plonk the wine is. I get to Battistas around 5:30 and walk in. Hostess ask if I have a reservation and I say no. Next available time was 8:30? I was thinking holy shit you need reservations at a place like this? This restaurant has nothing but haters so why can’t I just walk in?

So feeling sad and thirsty I think I will stop at Stage Door for a jack and coke. Nope! Stage Door was at max capacity. Now I’m really thinking what the hell?

Back to Bugsy and Meyers idea. Get to Flamingo and find Bugsy by the Garden Bar and wildlife area. I see 2 door and go what the hell? 1 door was a normal looking door with a hostess and the other had a tiny Bakery shop that was supposed to be the speakeasy entrance. I go to normal door and ask for a single seat or table. Was told to use other entrance. I go to the bakery and was asked if I had reservation. I say no. Was told to go to other entrance. Now I’m like what the hell again?? An employee escorted me to the regular entrance. I told her this is too confusing.

So Hostess said where would you like to sit? How about a tour of the place? Sure. There are 4 maybe 5 different rooms/themes you can sit in. Lounge, restaurant, “count room” smaller very dark mirrors on ceiling. Maybe 4 table and 6 bartop. Attached to count room was and even smaller room with maybe 4 tables glass enclosed and even darker. I picked count room at bar.

Very nice bartenders. Had over a dozen jars of fresh ingredients like fruits, edible flowers, and different herbs. Even had a smoke machine which bartender used once for a drink. I ordered water until I could decide on food. Nice menu and really big drink menu. Lots of wine by the glass and bottles. I finally decided on 16oz prime rib. Had a decoy merlot glass and Foley Johnson cabernet glass. Foley was very good. Both glasses $15 range. Medium rare prime rib was good but a little too much grey on spinalis. $105 for prime rib and 2 glasses of wine pre tip. B&M employees had 1 week of training before covid shut restaurant down. I like B&M and would do again. Whole place looked really nice.

Time to gamble at Flamingo. Up $130 on Dancing Drums and then another Dancing Drums and Heidi machines get me back to even. Was drinking comped cabernet wine while playing.

Flamingo sanitation report. Buckets of sanitizing wipes all over the place to wipe down machines. I used these on every machine. Wipe down machine before you put money or TITO in machine or else you make unexpected bets. No temperature taken. But I like all the buckets of sanitizers.

Go back to Luxor and I’m thirsty. Centra only bar open at Luxor. I don’t like Centra and I’ve never had any good experience there. Tonight was no exception. Slow service. Bartenders never saw me. Other people walking up would get help before me. I was barked at to put my mask on in between taking drink sips more on later. Lounge area quite busy and cocktail server was running around busy and hustling. Whole time I’m thinking why the hell isn’t Aurora open. I like that bar. So after a few drinks I want to go to bed. I asked for bill and it never came. Eventually I said screw this and got up and went to room. Left credit card at bar.

    DAY 2

Wake up shower and think I’m thirsty.

No mountain dew in the pop machine so settle for a pepsi.

I head north on the strip on the east side in search of booze. Get a jack and coke at MGM Grand. Get to Miracle Mile Shops and I thought Ocean One had reopened for diners and wanted to check. Bingo Ocean is open. Go to bar and get water and jack and coke. 3 for $10 drinks is best deal in the valley. I have a Spanish Omelet and I’m not impressed. People a few chairs down from me are from nearby my town in DFW. I live in Plano and they live in Lewisville. So an omelet and 6 jack and cokes later I’m looking to go somewhere else.

Ocean One sanitation report. Saw employees doing really good job of cleaning chairs and table and some had hand sanitizer in their pockets. However I didn’t see bartenders cleaning the laminated menus. Also didn’t see bartenders clean the tablet you have to sign with your fingers to sign for credit card. So up and down marks.

Next stop is Stage Door. Jack and cokes are $5 so still great deal. Don’t remember how many I had but it was a few. I learned that the Stage Door now takes credit cards! I guess this changed a couple years ago - I still thought it was cash only. After I paid first drink in cash I saw another customer use a credit card and thought what the hell? Stage Door had 2 younger smoking hot bartenders. I don’t know how this place attracts hottie bartenders but this isn’t the first time. My bartender Kate had black hair. Other bartender had blonde hair.

Stage Door Sanitation Report. As I learned the day before Stage Door is operating at lower capacity. First walking in security physically scanned my drivers license and took forehead temperature. Security escorted me to bar and told me where to sit. Very odd. Every few minutes security walked around and counted the number of customers. I saw barback wipe down chair, machine, and bar when a customer left. So actually really good marks for Stage Door. But don’t worry the interior is still uniquely Stage Door hahaha.

Back to Luxor for nap and pool.

    Tonite is for downtown

Walk to NYNY to take Wax downtown. No WAX service. Oh shit. Walk over to MGM Grand bus stop and no SDX service. Oh shit. Deuce is running but it’s not even close to RTC times they’re giving me via text. Wait and wait and nothing. Another person said a driver told him Deuce not running close to schedule. Oh shit. I say fine I will Uber from back over at NYNY.

15 Minute wait for Uber as there are no cars available. I get a jack and coke but don’t remember price. Fair was around $15 from NYNY to El Cortez.

    Circa is a big building.

I wanted El Cortez because I was going to eat the prime rib special and Siegals 1941. Yes my fatass was going to eat prime rib 2 straight days. Instead of the 8oz special I do the full 16oz medium rare prime rib for $30 or $33 I don’t recall. Prime rib much better at Bugsy & Meyers at Flamingo. Only water tonite because I already saw service was going to be slow and I couldn’t even get refills of water.

My thoughts on Siegals 1941 is I don’t like the place and it sucks. I don’t know why I cam back to this dump. Service extremely slow. I mean extremely slow. I think 2 waitresses for entire restaurant. I’m mad I ate there. Been a few years since I did and I didn’t like it then. Time to eat this meal seemed to take hours. I was youngest person eating by 20 years easy. When I saw a 85 year old lady walk in with a 75 year old lady I had to reevaluate my life.

I miss the Flame Restaurant. I also miss the Riviera. There I said it.

Went to Downtown Grand just to take a picture for jealous friend. Jack and coke at Furnace Bar $9

Golden Gate next for Drinks at Bar Prohibition. Jack and cokes are $9 also. Had a few of those and then had a few glasses of different wines for around $12. The great Valeria was bartending along with Spyder.

Down to The D next. Picked up a $25 match play offer from Richard Wilk youtube offer. Go to a blackjack table get dealt a 15 to dealer 7. Take hit and bust. Dammit.

Go to Longbar for jack and coke.

Leave and go to Golden Gate to play slots. Not sure if this is best move but since I get better offers from Golden Gate I play there. GG offers are 3 nights and a very little slot play and food. D offers are BOGO and even less food and free play. Maybe if play at D both offers go up? I don’t know. Slot drink service sucks. Lose $200ish quite rapidly.

Walk around and in the new GG addition is the Circa sports book. I talk to the lady and she says it should be a 24 hour location soon when it gets fully staffed. She says they close for a few hours in the late morning. I see NFL Week 1 Denver Broncos -2.5 over Tennessee so I put $50 on Denver.

Go back to Bar Prohibition. I heard some people talking about drink tickets from video poker bartop and remember that story from Vital Vegas. I decide to do an experiment on how long to get a ticket. I was betting .50 forever and Valeria said I needed to bet higher. I reminded her that all she said was more than .25. So I up to max bet for many hands and still no damm ticket. After I lose $50 chasing a stupid drink ticket Valeria hands me a drink. Disclaimer I’m no VP player.

Golden Gate and The D sanitation report. Casino and bathrooms spotless as always. I don’t remember any sanitation wipes like the Flamingo. At both locations temperature is taken to get inside. You hold your wrist up to a thing that looks like a metal detector.

Its now 2AM and I need to get back to the Luxor. Uber again with another 15 minute wait because there are no cars. Another $15ish fare from Plaza to Luxor.

So get to Luxor and sit outside finishing my drink because weather finally feels nice outside. I go back to Centra for a drink and to get my credit card back. Bartender from last night isn’t there so thats good.

Sitting and minding my own business when the 1st escort of the trip comes to start a conversation. I briefly look at her and I don’t think she’s that good looking and say no. Have to say no again before she leaves. I’m in no mood for an escort during covid times.

Get my credit card back from security desk and go to bed. Time is past 4AM

    DAY 3

Wake up 10:30 and shower and pack up. Time to roam strip as my flight isn’t until 6:30PM

Not going to bore you anymore but I was hungover all day and actually purchased several bottles of water.

I have to be at work 6AM Wednesday water is for the best.

    FINAL THOUGHTS

    1. Spirit flights were full but on time and even a bit early

    2. Fewer people outside on streets

    3. Casinos however were quite busy

    4. Have to wear masks inside at all times except for in restaurants it seems. Casino bars mask on if you arent actually drinking

    5. Masks are a pain in the ass because you can’t carry on a conversation or give a drink order correctly

    6. Every hotel and business has different covid protocol and thats kinda frustrating

    7. Expect transportation problems if going soon with bus lines down and few ubers. Maybe when the extra $600 a week unemployment stops then out of work people will go to rideshare driving. Or use taxis more. Saw less taxis around too.

    8. Expect many restaurants and shops and kiosks to be closed or have really crappy operating hours. You really have to plan ahead and probably call ahead for reservation or operating hours. I thought I planned well but actually didn’t. I should have called businesses.

CPK at the Mirage is closed. I go there to eat every trip. Brandi from Vancouver will be bartender and she knows what I eat - I don't have to tell her. You may have a story like that.

    9. Weather was HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT

    10. Go to Bugsy & Meyers Steakhouse

    11. MGM casinos have many hand washing stations that I used several times. Most casinos have masks gloves and hand sanitizer stations all over too. I used lots of hand sanitizer this trip.

    12. Lots of bar and restaurant closed

    13. Except for the pool people were distancing themselves from others

    14. Slots are every other with some casinos have games turned completely off. Some have stickers saying don’t use

    CONCLUSION

Las Vegas is a magical place but some of that magic is missing.

There is fun and good times to be found still out there!

I still have no luck on slots

Should you go to Las Vegas soon? Depends.

If you go for shows and entertainment? Hello No

If you go for gambling? YES of course

If you’ve been there before and know what you’re doing? Yes

If you’re new going alone or with other new people? NO

If you go for clubs? HELL NO

If you’re paranoid about covid and have to fly? No

If you’re paranoid about covid and can drive? Yes

Read trip reports and message boards. Listen to podcasts like Five Hundy By Midnight. Watch youtube Living In Las Vegas, Life in Las Vegas, Not Leaving Las Vegas, and Trooper97. Read Vital Vegas on the twitters and website. Then you can make an informed decision.

Would I fly back next weekend? Yes

I hope I stayed safe from the Las Vegas trip and I hope you all do to!

Thanks for your insight! Your trip seems similar to the one I’m planning on August and it was great to see that it’s similar to what I’ve been picturing.

That was one long post but an extremely informative and entertaining report so thank you very much!!! Yours is the first review I've read about the new steakhouse at Flamingo. I was very happy to read all of the details as I wanted to dine there and I want to do even more so after reading your report.

I've never been to Stage Door but I want to check that off of my list. It's great to hear how meticulous that place was with the cleaning.

And I agree with you about missing The Flame at El Cortez.

    Thanks again for writing!

I will say though that I hope to be in Vegas soon. If so, it will be primarily a solo trip (hopefully @dbueler will be there for part of the trip!) and I believe I will have a good time, even in this new environment, but I truly enjoy my own company and may actually prefer the quieter vibe.

Nice report! Thanks for sharing and writing up all the Vegas details!

Re: Golden Gate bar, there has been reports that it takes $160 coin-in for a ticket (higher requirement than Cosmo!), so betting only 2 quarters that would be 320 hands needed to be played. That would definitely take awhile!

I'm probably one of the few people that would be just fine mentally right now there. I would love the lack of crowds. I don't need the pool, can live without the shows etc. I would be content just gambling & eating, watching the fountains, visiting the conservatory & the gardens at Flamingo. (I just don't dare.)

Thank you for sharing your trip with us. It was so easy to picture it & enjoy it.

Great report, very informative. I too miss the Flame and Pai Gow at El Cortez. I like Ocean and usually get the three martinis for $10 at breakfast.

Thanks for the report and thoughts! I’ll be there in 2 1/2 weeks also flying on Spirit. How exactly did you get the $25 Matchplay at The D? Did you go to the player’s club desk and tell them you saw the video?

I have a solo trip coming up next month (hopefully) and this was very informative! Thanks for sharing! I love Stage Door and visit nearly every trip (although "Stage Door" and "sanitation" are two words I never thought I'd use in the same sentence :D:D). Sounds like they've really stepped up their game.

Question about the pool at Luxor - despite the crowds, were their loungers available? I have never stayed at Luxor, but toying with the idea of switching up and trying it out this trip

Great report. Very informative and honest. Luckily my group and I going in 2 weeks aren’t into clubs or shows. (I save the entertainment and fine dining for the trips with my wife.)

    Thanks for the report!

It, along with many others, reinforced my decision to stay away for a while longer but I am glad to see people going out, staying safe as much as possible, and having a good time.

Your report was awesome. Thanks for the detailed information.

I’m not surprised they are talking about eliminating the WAX but am really shocked they may eliminate the SDX.
I hope Uber/Lyft becomes more available soon.

To Matty Ice. Subscribe or watch YouTube videos by Richard Wilk. He is a host at the D. Richard says to go to players desk and ask for him or his match play offer. Just a little present for either watching his videos or showing up to The D.

The club employee wanted to see my One Card which I had on me.

Thanks for all your observations. I visited Vegas as soon as it reopened and had a great time. Coming back next month again. But watching all the Vegas guys on You Tube, all they predict is doom and gloom. Vegas is shutting down is all you hear. Just a bunch of nonsense. They know nothing, just invite Vegas haters and trolls to their videos. Come to Vegas people, wear your mask, social distance and use hand sanitizer, and you will be fine.
