I can't think of a sane person who would argue that Tiger doesn't bring eyes and attention to events.

Tiger's 70 was one of the higher rounds shot, so it was a relatively disappointing round after his Thursday 62. Even more disappointing is Spieth, who seems like he just can't wait for the season to end. If he does not qualify for the Tour Championship, and right now he's outside the top 30 cut (just outside at 32-how he plays this weekend will decide whether he plays next week), he will not have played his minimum number of 25 PGA tournaments this year and he'll have to add a tournament he's not played in the last four years next year (not much of a 'penalty' for not playing in my opinion). I think Spieth is a distracted head case, so I expect very little from him, but maybe he's capable of coming back if he gets on a streak and gets some confidence, or if he learns to hit the ball straight, or if he learns to avoid the double and triple (or worse) bogies, or if he ever gets back to putting like he did once, or if................

I like seeing Tiger back playing PGA tournament golf. I think he's good for the game, especially with his new and improved somewhat humbled attitude. Whether you like him or not, he's one of the greatest who has ever played the game, and I like having the greats hang around for a while.

Popularity of golf comes down to affordability. We live 7 miles outside a town of 6,800. It had a 9 hole course from 1946-1996. It then expanded to 18 retaining the old 9 with its turtle back greens. It was 500$ every 6 months unlimited golf including trail fee and cart shed. It went up to 560$ in July due to increase in cart trail fees and shed, not golf. The gripes lasted about a week and we moved on. If You walk it is only 380$ every six months unlimited golf.
The city subsidizes it as they do the general parks system. There are fundraisers. There are out of county members. It is affordable and keeps old farts off the streets. The local high school golf team has unlimited access. It's great BUT it's affordable. Tiger has little to do with the popularity of golf in this small piece of real estate. But many watch and root for him. Unless we are playing. Then he is merely dvr'd.

Woods has Monday finish of 65, 17 under and tied for 6th. Good for Tiger. He came back a long, long way this year. I hope he wins the Tour Championship. I don’t think this will happen, but a cheering interest.

Spieth shoots a 3 over 73 and is 55th. More importantly, his Fedex Cup number goes from 27 to 31, missing the cut for the Tour Championship by one and putting him at only 24 of the PGA mandated 25 tournaments for the year. This has never happened so no one knows if the PGA will impose any other penalty other than making him play a different tournament next year.

One success story and one for the Pit of Misery. Dilly, dilly.

our local 9'er that i played my high school team golf on is closing for good 10/31... family owned and none of the younger family members are interested in the work it takes to make it successful. once had close to 300 members...this year 22.
they are leasing the land to a solar farm company and will make more from that than as a golf course....

sorry if i went off tangent too far.

ps. do not care for Tiger...goes back to Ryder Cup in Brookline.

Tomorrow,I think Tiger better come out hot like he did today and build a five or six stroke advantage. Tiger fades as the match go on. Might be mental and physical fatigue. The field could catch him if he does not stay focused.
