We all have them. A song that takes you back to a special moment in time. One of those moments that you will always remember. Sometimes they are a happy memory, sometimes they were a song you just happened to hear on the radio when a major event in your life happened.

Music has played a major role in my life. I honestly feel sorry for those that don’t have a true appreciation for music.

This song reminds me of a the first special female in my life. I thought it was love but it wasn’t. Many great memories from my youth come rushing back anytime I hear this.

This is a song that takes me back to my reckless days. A time when I was technically an adult but not really a real man yet. I listened to this album in way more times then I can count. Most of those in an upstairs game room playing cards with friends while partaking in too many beers and maybe a few other things.

I am old enough to have had had many relatives die in my lifetime and I have felt a loss. Both of my parents are still alive so I haven’t experienced that yet. This song really hits me and I think of the passing of a certain close relative. A very special great aunt.

This song pertains to a person that I have mixed feelings about. When I hear this, it helps me focus on the good times. As I get older it makes me realize that he has done the best he can for his family, even though he had a rough early life.

Lastly I will share with you a song I heard in my youth. I have kind of tried to make this a motto for life. Everyday try to be a better person. If everyone around us would just give this a try We can make a better place for future generations. Never stop trying to improve yourself and at the same time embrace acceptance.

Please feel free to share your stories of how music has shaped your life or how one song particularly song takes you back to a special place or time in your life.

    Great thread idea! :D

Our city-slicker cousins had a VCR.
We watched this movie every time we visited. And we sang along!

In my college years I used to dress up as an auctioneer :cowboy: and emcee basket and quilt auctions. This was my entrance music:

The song my bride and I danced to to kick off our wedding dance:

Oh g-d I could get into trouble on this thread... My Life Is A Playlist :haha: Here’s three songs that remind me of Vegas, the first two being omnipresent during my 2013 trip and last one being Four Queens-specific because I heard it almost every day when staying/playing there my last two trips :evillaugh:

Who? Is this person played on Sirius First Wave, Lithium, classic vinyl, or classic rewind? If not, I don't know them.
Is this person Male or Female?
    Too tired for google

There are so many, I would not know where to begin.
Some of them I get quite emotional for.
They may not take me back to a specific day or event, but a period rather.
    For starters, here goes one....
Cherish by Kool & The Gang. 1984
The only song I ever cared for by them.
It just reminds me of the 80s and it really blows me away when I hear it.
Does anyone else have a sweet spot for that song?

I would have to say Sweet Caroline, it reminds me of getting 5 for $1 draft beers at a dive bar in Wildwood, NJ. Waving hands, screaming out dum, dum, dum and so good, so good, so good. Cue the music.

Only Time - my first had some minor medical issues when she was born, I played this a lot while I rocked her

Lyin Eyes - reminds me of my stepdad (who has now passed). He was a musician, and for my birthday one year we went to listen to a live band that he knew. He knew I liked the Eagles so as a present to me, he joined the band and sang this song for me.

Little Wonders - I played this song a lot during a loss I experienced

July - a fairly new one, but reminds me of my marriage

So many songs remind me of people, relationships, roadtrips where it seemed like the song was constantly on the radio, like Torn was my first road trip to the painted desert and Grand Canyon

Spent a month one night with a friend, a gram and Jackson Browne's Running on Empty album. Probably played this song 20 times.

During one of my early Vegas trips, this LeAnn Rimes tune was popular and was playing in the casino at the old Monte Carlo. I also saw LeAnne in concert in Vegas during her early days when she was at the peak of her career, so whenever I hear this tune it reminds me of that trip!

Another tune that always reminds me of Vegas is this classic Beatles tune from the Cirque show, LOVE...

There are lots of tunes from my early grade school days (1960s) and high school (1970s) days that brings back memories, but there are too many to post all of them. This Jim Croce tune was popular during my high school days and is one of my all time favorites and a favorite of a girl I was dating way back then...

Going way back into the archives, I remember when the Beatles first came to America. Their music use to drive my parents crazy, so whenever I hear one of their early hits like "I want to hold your hand", it always reminds me of those times when we were kids ... LOL Needless to say, I'm still a big Beatles fan today.

My first "real" boyfriend, who also gave me my first kiss was a huge fan of Candlebox. It was ALWAYS playing in his truck, and I'm instantly taken back to summer melting into fall nights, necking in his truck in the local park whenever I hear this song. The irony of this song (reminding me of those nights with him) is that he passed away about 4 years ago due to alcoholism. The lyrics are just sad. We never kept in touch after we broke up, but we did keep tabs on each other through mutual friends and FB lurking. I think we were each other's first "real" love and there was always that connection that comes from that. It's a song that makes me feel the excitement of young love as well as the sadness of grief and loss all at once and all about the same person.

In the summer of 1971, I was 14... living in Houston, no car & no driver's license. So, I got around everywhere by hitch-hiking.
One August afternoon, I was hitching east-bound on Memorial Drive & these two girls pulled over to give me a ride... shortly after I get in the back seat, the girl in the front passenger seat fires up a joint and passes it back to me... just then, 'Maggie May' by Rod Stewart comes on the radio & she cranks up the volume...needless to say, I think about those girls & that ride every single time I hear that song.

The very next summer, I'm riding with friends west on Clay Road, toward Bear Creek Park... it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon & we were all having a fantastic day... then, 'Reelin' in the Years' by Steely Dan comes on, the radio gets cranked... & I remember thinking at the time, "I'm going to hear this song 20 years from now & remember this exact day & this ride"... well, it's been 48 years, and I still do!

Don't laugh, but this next one gets me everytime....to this day, I avoid it so that the memories don't come flooding back.
From July through October of 1979, I had a torrid romance with one of the most special girls I've ever known in my life... brief, but very passionate. I was so in love, I wanted to marry her, but she said no. Anne Murray was one of her favorites & she bought this album & played it a lot... after we broke up, I was so heartbroken, I went out & bought it myself, wallowing in my self-pity every time this song would play.
To this day, I miss her terribly.

This song always takes me back, singing it at the top of our lungs driving with a childhood friend. It seemed prophetic when two years later she was hit and killed by a drunk driver. Always picture her happy and belting it out.

This one reminds me of my Dad, most anything by Johnny Cash does. My Dad played guitar and sang a lot of Cash tunes. I was always impressed that he knew every word and didn’t take a breath. I still have his 1958 Gibson guitar and a few others but the Gibson will stay in the family.

Music is the “soundtrack” to our lives. So many songs take me back to a place in time.

Lots of songs bring back happy and sad memories in my life.

"Flying". A song by the Peter Moon band. Reminds me of my father and the day he died.

"Evergreen" sung by Barbara Streisand. The first date movie I brought my wife to "A Star is Born." This is still our song 43 years later.

Making out with some girl named Carol at a church retreat in 1969 with this song on the radio. Never saw her again.

I was 16, my girlfriend was 15. Her folks had a finished basement so about 8 of us, 4 boys, 4 girls, hung out there all of the time. We did a lot of dancing. My girl played this song ad infinitum. One night, I got so sick of it that I snatched it off of the turntable and broke it in half. As I'm in the act of doing it, I thought "Oh, shit, this is going to cause a huge argument." She never even batted an eye, just walked to a drawer and pulled out another copy and played it again.

At the same time, The Beach Boys "Barbara Ann" was getting huge air time. That was my girlfriend's name, Barbara Ann.
