So I have gone to Vegas the last 2, 3, 4 January's out of 6 or so? I always go when I get round trip price for $100 or less out of Chicago (thanks Spirit or Frontier). I usually went for 2-3 nights. Nothing long, nothing crazy - just a quick escape to have some fun and relax. I am cheap as hell. I would rather pay $100 round trip or less (currently going to cost about $190). I would rather use the $90 "savings" into a slot or food or whatever. Am I being an idiot? I have free room offers at Blue Chip (Boyd) or Four Winds. I feel like I can just go there for a night and kick back. However, the downside is that it's not Vegas. Like, it can get boring if you are in a same spot for extended time. It's not like I can just walk out of the casino and do something else. So I am slightly bummed. On the other hand, last year, for NYE, I didn't book my trip until around mid-Dec, if I recall correctly. So there's still a small chance. I have free rooms downtown and on the Strip. I was gonna try to go on Jan 1 to the 3rd or 4th. Just wanted to unload, lol. But hey, spring break is around the corner too.
You think like me. lol. If it's your annual trip, or something similar, I'd spend the extra $90. If it's one of 4-5 trips you make a year I'd hold off and just do a 2 day local jaunt. I live an hour from Atlantic City (9 large casinos) and I keep it to a 1 or 2 night event for me if I actually stay over...NEVER a week as I'd be bored to tears. I go to LV for 2 full weeks at a time and don't get bored. It's a big difference from your local spots.
I live in South Jersey also, Bordentown. I gave up on AC. Haven’t been in almost 4 years. It’s bad enough to lose all the time there, but my last few times there it felt hopeless. When it’s no longer fun, it’s time to stop. I go to Vegas once or twice a year, have a good time win or lose. But it never feels hopeless in Vegas.
Yeah, I go often, kind of whenever I can. Like, if I see flights super cheap, and the room comps match up, then I'll just go. Like, I never really have a PLAN in mind. Lately, I am just going for 3 nights (if solo). 3 nights seem to hit the spot. First night, I just chill, eat, drink, take it easy. Second day there, I up it a little bit, play a little at night, then the third and final night, I play quite a bit! This way, I don't kill my bankroll so fast if I'm not feeling it. So 3 nights is perfect for a solo traveler. As for with friends or my mom, then I'll just go whenever, but I feel "stuck" sometimes, lol. I like to freestyle everything! I don't think I could ever do two weeks at a time, but ask me in 30 years when I am retired! Yeah, that's how the local joints have been feeling lately. Vegas too, but at least there's the glitz, glamour, and all the options of other casinos. But the local joints have been draining my money so much that I had to borrow $200 from my buddy because I only planned on spending $200 the last time we stayed overnight, but that was gone in no time. $20 in a slot was gone in 5 minutes on minimum bet, then another slot, then a little blackjack, then back to slots. It was just totally GONE. There was no give!
I rent a car and spend a lot of my time exploring the city and the region, which I find fascinating. 2 weeks goes by too fast. If I was to be car-less and just be walking up and down the Strip and be stuck there I couldn't do more than a few days either. We all have those trips where nothing hits and the bankroll just goes straight south. You have to be prepared with something else in mind to keep yourself positively occupied. No one wants to be laying on their bed in the middle of the second day staring at the ceiling wondering 'What do I do now?' That's why local casinos are so 'meh'...if you're not gambling you might as well be more comfortable and productive at home.
I'd check again... I just looked myself for Chicago > LAS in early January and I'm seeing an ample availability of $100 USD fares. Even though it's on a totally different scale, I'm of the same mind... fares from Toronto vary between the high $300s and the mid $500s. If given the option of paying $500 for the perfect dates, or $400 for "well I guess I could make it work" dates, I will jump at the $400 option. Best of luck in your Vegas plans working out ffejry... hope the first half of the school year has been well!
I check 3-4x a day... Morning, lunch break, after work, and before bed, plus the occasional check while eating dinner too. Work sucks, but that's another story for another time, LOL
Yea four winds is nice but still not Vegas. Four winds, blue chip and heaven forbid Joliet Harrah’s bore me
Well for some of you 90 isn't much of a difference but it is to me. I am a teacher. And I have a routine. I spend whatever it takes (90) for Vegas if pool is an option and weather is great. When it's January and I can't use the pool I rather save the 90. I know it doesn't seem much but to me personally it does. I believe In maximizing every cent possible. So personally that 90 savings could be better spent. Now if this was late March, spring break, then I am all in baby. Sorry to appear too cheap. I just have a money value system
Do you use the email price alerts on Google Flights? I highly recommend that tool... I've snagged some great airfares that way.
Take a shot and clear your cookies on your computer. You may be checking too often and they assume you are going to buy and jack the price up on you. I've yet to see it but I have read that it happens.
Nothing wrong with not going man. If you’re not feeling it, save the money now and go when you are really excited to go and have some cash to burn.
We’ve gone to Las Vegas every January for the last 24 years. We’ll not go this year. Life changes going on at home, much higher airfares, less interest and some recent unplanned trips have combined to nix the visit.
Sorry, Johnny. I am giving it another week (7 days) for flights to drop some more. I didn't even RSVP my comped hotels (I probably should...)
So I got an alert that my ideal flight home (the 4th at like, midnight, so technically the 3rd because I'll be at the airport around 11pm) dropped 54% to $59... I passed. BUT! I decided, if on payday, it is 59/59 each way, then I will go. Short trip, but something
