    My Trip Report

Warning up front, this will be wordy and may lose some readers en route! I am noting this as much for my own recollection as I am sharing the trip - so if you become bored at any stage, I will understand! Hope something in here rings true with you and there is enough detail to be entertaining, we shall see.....

So back in March this year I had an email from Virgin Atlantic announcing their 'bonus miles' sale. I am a sucker for a deal so always have a look but have never before had enough miles to actually use. This time I was shocked to see that I had sufficient miles (just) with the bonus to take my lovely wife and I from London Gatwick to Las Vegas, Thursday through Wednesday - if we could get the time off work! All we had to pay was the tax, about £200 each - Bargain! This was a Friday evening so I had her check and the answer was yes but I did not get that answer until after my office shut. I took the bull by the horns and booked anyway - worst case, I took unpaid leave or cancelled, best case - Vegas hear we come.

It all turned out well and I arranged to switch my holiday around a little, so we had 6 days in Vegas, over Halloween weekend. Next to arrange rooms. I have never been able to take advantage of 'up front' comps in the past, as my trips have been more than a year apart - it's not usually cheap to come from the UK and family commitments also make a dent in the time and budget! So I checked Mlife and had the Corporate offer for a 'suite' and $125 fp and $150 f&b based on our play last year (report is archived from last year but sure you can look it up if interested - 'two virgin handpays, Gossy, Britney and general shenanigins 24-31 October'), with no resort fees. We decided on New York New York for three days, always liked the casino and that end of the strip. I then checked Total Rewards as I like to move around anyway and wanted to see what was available. Chose the Flamingo, as we haven't stayed there before, position and, well, it's a classic. Had 3 nights comped but resort fee to pay - not the greatest deal but it suited our purposes.

We had our gambling Dollars (about $4,500 between us to cover all gambling, some food, incidentals, Taxis, etc) safely stashed from last year's 'winning' trip, so all we had to do now was play some 'MyVegas' for a few extras and start the planning - I love that bit, all ahead of us and just discussing where we want to be, what to see, etc. To be honest, by the time we left we decided to leave this year's trip more fluid - no meal reservations, no shows, we just decided to go with the flow.

MyVegas gave us 2 x Bellagio buffet (one each), 2 x Mirage Buffet (one each), BOGOF Monorail for 6 days and $50 free drinks at Bar at Times Square. That was about as far as planning took us, other than agreeing to one day/night on Freemont, probably incorporating the Peppermill and a day strolling 'off strip' casino's - the rest would be a wonder upo and down the strip, try to catch some bands/shows etc. Big Elvis a probability and maybe even see the Vegas sign after 8 trips and about 20 years of thinking about it! Also, the elusive Craps lesson - I keep promising myself but it never seems to quite happen....

I will kick off at the most appropriate moment in the next post, briefly at the airport followed by arrival, check-in, etc - you get the idea!

Flight with Virgin was due to leave at 10.30am and I was not going to miss it - so we allowed the usual 3 hours to ensure we were settled etc. Grabbed a couple of sandwiches for breakfast and washed them down with the ubiquitous morning beer or 2 (Strongbow Cider for me, water for Mrs WHU who drinks but occassionally) and I also followed up with a Bloody Mary - great way to start and may even help me sleep a bit on the 10 hour plus flight!

First minor loss of the trip, it was a bit foggy in the area, so we embarked for our 10.30 flight but were held in place for over an hour - not a major delay but just frustrating enough when all you want to do is get on your vacation. I wish they would leave us sat in relative comfort in the airport lounge rather than herding us on board to wait but I guess if we could get away on time we would be ready. We got going fairly well after that, drinks service was OK but they did warn us that they were likely to run out during the flight, so Mrs WHU kindly ordered extra's for me, as we had plenty of water already, so I had a few more whilst watching a couple of movies and then getting some sleep. Not a bad flight and we arrived safely maybe an hour and a half after expectation at 3pm on Thursday afternoon. Massive queues through immigration but moving relatively quickly and we were painlessly reunited with our luggage and to the Taxi queue smoothly - actually no queue, so we grabbed the next cab and were on our way to NYNY for check in.

Again, smooth process at check-in, all details correct. Didn't try for an upgrade or anything, we just accepted our 33rd floor 'suite' in the Empire Tower and scooted up to the room to have a quick look round, very brief freshen up and then straight down for a gamble - maybe hit the Casino at around 5.30pm.

We are slots hounds during the day, as Mrs WHU does not really play/enjoy tables and I am just happy to be here! Used the 'daily envelope' plan to control my spending - 2 reasons being one to control the spend but also to save me the effort of keep checking. So we had around $650 per day, including check in day Thursday and check out Wednesday. No real plan to set any aside, so if we won, we won and if it looked like we were running low, we just slowed down, went to a bar, looked round shops, etc.

We wandered around the casino checking out some of the newer games (WD2, Dragon Spin, etc) that weren't available last year and played a few old favourites as well (Buffalo!). Basically, we couldn't by a win. We have had this on the first night before and tend to reach a time where we say enough's enough and move on to a different casino. This was no different, 'let's try MGM, we enjoyed it last year'!

Over to MGM, a bit of original Hangover and also Hangover 2 (quite enjoyed this game but no really good payouts - the monkey is fun), more Dragon Spin, some volcano type thing, Buffalo Gold, etc - and Game of Thieves/sorry Thrones (couldn't get anything going on this all week)! After a while, where we at least got a few small wins to keep us going the day started catching up and there had been a severe lack of sustenance. It may not be high quality food but a nice simple meal of chicken wings seemed in order and where else to get them but Hooters! So we took a stroll over via Tropicana (no real love here) and on to Hooters Casino. We went and had a bite to eat (simple boneless wings, fries and onion rings, couple of beers - just a nice, 'frugal' comfort meal). We played a bit after eating and had quite a bit of success on various games between us, following our usual 'choose a game, play $20 each sitting me to the right of the machine, Mrs WHU to the left and just playing through to see what we could get. This became a theme of the early part of the trip - if we were having a bad time at gaming during te day, wherever we were, it seemed we could bank on Hooters to bail us out and return some funds to the pot! We used our player cards which we received last year as usual, not because we expected any comps (not sure I would ever stay at Hooters or not) but more out of habit.

We did quite well and eventually tired and, in my case a little buzzed, we eventually took ourselves and my once again full wallet to bed at about 3ish I think - so about a 30 hour first day! So much for the plan of being well rested for the bulk of the trip! Also, Fitbit has registered 6,671 steps, 3miles for this day - not too bad!

having some problems with the laptop and photo uploads.....hope this works! it may be tomorrow before more updates.....

Later on Friday 28 October, day one 'proper' - as usual, my general excitement accompanied by jet lag and a general degenerate lack of control means I am awake again by 6.30! Time for coffee, gambling and perhaps a few beers before Mrs WHU awakes - leave a note to say I will be back up by 9.30 to collect her for breakfast (if ready) and off I go with last night's money - I will open today's envelope when we are together if necessary but started about even from yesterday, so plenty to have fun with!

Wandered downstairs to play at NYNY for a while - zero luck. Did find a CW and get a coffee and a neat JD to start the day (seperate glasses of course)! Played around a little - bit of Spartacus, Zeus and some buffalo amongst others. Wasn't feeling it, so decided a walk over to MGM was in order. I really enjoyed my morning paly there last year and had some luck - fingers crossed I could repeat it. I was playing and enjoying another Coffee and Jack when one of the slot attendants walked past, stopped and said 'I remember you, do you come every year'? I was quite surprised but said no and had a chat about our visit, when we arrived, luck to date, etc. She even remembered paying me my one and only hand-pay last year, from the original Walking Dead machines. Really nice lady and I was pleased to be remembered - think her name is Freda (but I am not good with names - sorry) - she pointed me to a couple of the new games which were fun but I didn't get much return. Enough to keep afloat.

Returned to find Mrs WHU was ready for the day and definately ready for breakfast. We decided to eat at NYNY and headed to the Italian restuarant (Forneo?) just off the casino floor for a breakfast, charged to the room given our F&B credit. Came to about $40 bucks for a corned beef hash with coffee for me and Italian breakfast for Mrs WHU - it was nice but not greatly memorable. would probably eat there again if we were about and hungry.

After breakfast we played a bit at NYNY, then worked our way from there via Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay, playing a little in each Casino and grabbing a few drinks where available. We then decided to walk to the Vegas sign and found our way out of MB, via the wrong exit! We were out the back of MB but, as I had my bearings, decided to walk anyway. Whilst not mid-summer sun, it was quite warm. We were offered directions and water by a security guard by one of the delivery areas out the back - very nice of him but we were OK. Eventually made it back to the strip and up to the sign. I must admit it was an 'is that it' moment for me! We didn't bother queuing, just stood to one side and got a quick pic each! We then walked back, via the monolith of the (failed) second observation wheel, luxor, etc on the opposite side of the road and then back to Hooters (see a theme developing)! A few more drinks, some more play (with a few more wins) including a ice payout from my favourite 'Buffalo Train'.

Back to NYNY at about 6pm to get ready for our evening out at the duelling pianos at Bar at Times Square - we have done this a couple of times before and always have afun, if simple, night out. We had the MyVegas voucher which was good for a bout 3 drinks each and I added a few more to that on the room - Mrs WHU had her 3 and that was plenty to get a good Buzz going! We had a great time, people watching, being watched, drinking and singing along - just a good old fashioned fun night out! Left there just before midnight when a few 'repeats' came on - played a bit more in the Casino before an early night at 2ish.

Fit bit shows 32,000 steps, 15 miles for today

    Trips to Las Vegas:
    8
Saturday 29 and the routine continues, I awake early with the promise of more Vegas. Pretty much usual routine, leave a note and wander down to the casino - play about a bit, did the usual stroll to MGM and trolled about there also, then back to collect Mrs WHU. Today we were not that hungry when we got up, so just decided to see where our feet took us. We had a trip on the Monorail up to SLS and played about for a bit - swapped some money about, overall down a little but not bleeding too hard.

On to Westgage for more of the same - some of the casino was closed off, looked like some sort of water leak onto some of the slots. Played about a little but nothing much of note. We then got back on the monorail, back off at Harrachs and went across to the Mirage and TI. We were not losing lots of money but decided to slow down a little as we couldn't seem to get anything going. So it was a bit of a slow stroll down the strip, back through Mirage again, Caesars, Cosmo, Aria, Monte Carlo (missed Bellagio today) having a wander through the shops, looking at some Christmas decorations, mementos, etc and playing a little in each, grabbing a drink, etc.

Realised play had eaten into the daily budget a little sooooo - back to our ATM, Hooters! I hit for a nice win on Buffalo Train (Cash Express) and Mrs WHU had a nother hit on Sherlock, so we replenished the daily spend ready for our evening tonight and my early play tomorrow!

Got back to NYNY and decided we were getting hungry - can't remember a meal of substance so far today, think we were probably semi-hungover, semi-enjoying the wander too much to stop and eat! We decdied on Nine Fine Irishman, so went back to freshen up and go down to eat. I posted a pic below that shows how tired I was by this stage - little piggy eyes not helped by the flash and darkness in there! The food was excellent, Mrs WHU had the Shepherds Pie and I had the sausage and mash (I ordered the lamb stew but our waitress warned me it is quite watery and I wanted something 'thick and satisfying') think my choice was a good one. We had some sides (peas, mac & cheese, etc). Think in total with drinks (Guinness) it was about $55 - not bad at all.

Back to gamble some more at NYNY, no major wins or loses but we had somehow saved about $500 on daily spends - a win in my book and we would try and 'bank that' if we could.

Fitbit steps today 24,000 or about 10.6 miles

    Trips to Las Vegas:

Sunday 30 October, moving day! Not before I got my usual early start - I had planned to be up by 5.30 as I wanted to watch my football (soccer) team play and thought that waskick-off. As usual I was too excited, etc and was awake at about 4am, so I let Mrs WHU know where I would be for the game, unless I could find somewhere better, which would just be the Sports Book at NYNY. I checked with reception and they did not know if it would be shown anywhere, or what time the sports book opened, etc, etc. Eventually I just decided I could watch standing outside the Sports book and that would be fine. I could play for a while (particularly as kick-off wasn't until 6.30)!!

Went across to MGM and played a bit of black-jack (only $10 and 'bad odds' but I just wanted the experience) - played 45 mins or so, had a few drinks and a chat with the dealer - very quiet all that time. Bought in for $50 and left with nothing but had the play and drinks. Wandered back to NYNY and played some more. Then decided I needed some Strongbow for the game and this is not a CW drink (I had asked the previous day), Tried the Centre bar and sure enough they can comp it, so played a bit of VP for the rest of my time before kick-off. Had 2 drinks and took one with me on about $10 up and down play - not too shabby!

Went to watch the game - nil nil at half-time and West Ham were playing well - happy with that. Back for 10 mins VP and a refill on the cider. By the time I found my spot back at the game Mrs WHU had joined me. Unfortunately the game went to pot, we went 2 nil down and I decided I had seen enough - time to eat. We went to Toms Urban, right beside the sports book and I could still see the game (for what worth). Had an amazing steak breakfast buritto, Bloody Mary and Mrs WHU had the spicy Chicken breakfast burrito - we both loved it. Definately come back at some stage. Great value at around $40.

Time to check out and I thought I had calculated the meals about right to have a 'cost free' checkout. They had not attached the last bit of F&B to the breakfast booking but after a quick chat we got that sorted and were left with a bill for $1.20! I eventually covered this with Express Comps - we don't think we will be back within a year, so felt it best just to use them. We decided to take our bags over to the Mirage, via MGM and the Monorail to see if we could check in early, if not, would leave the bags with the Bellman and explore the middle of the strip - this ended up being the route taken, early check in was $30 so not deemed worrth it when a $5 buck tip each end for the bellman would work.

So we then had a bit of an off-strip stroll. We walked out the back of the Flamingo, quick look into Stage Door - been before and didn't fancy it today! We wandered on to the tiny casino by the hotel on the walk to Ellis Island, name eludes me - only played Sherlock before moving on! Then walked on to Ellis Island - like coming here for a beer but nothing too memorable - other than Mrs WHUI found the 'Christmas Story' slot - she loves all things Christmas and the whimsy of this one, the fact it sings Christmas Carols and the fact she won all added together to make our visit memorable. I had a small win on the original Walking Dead as well - love the game play on this game, usually lose (other than last year's hand-pay Haha!)so coming away with something was nice.We then walked on to the Hard Rock. Once again, this is wuite a stroll and took a while but was nice to be out in the sun.

Played some VP to get a drink and cool down, we then had a tour of the casino, me choosing the games! We statretd with WOZ Not in Kansas. Mrs WHU declared her dislike for thsi game. I was ambivilant! Mrs WHU got a 'Tornado' and up to 4 captured before crashing out for about $10! Whilst she was in it, I got one and hit for free spins and about a $70 win - I will take that! Mrs WHU continues to play, hits another 'Tornado' and gets Good witch free spins or some such with Monkey multipliers - anyway, eventually the spins finish and, for her $1 bet we won $601 - a nice little return and what would be our biggets sinle win of the trip. We proceeded to play some more around the rest of the casino, booking a few wins and somehow over the day had gained about $1200 up on our daily budgets - again we would hopefully bank this!

We decided to get a cab back, going to our other 'favourite' Hooters for a bit of a play. We won a bit more and had a good play. We also asked at the players club whether our 'points made prizes', as in was there any value in our play to date. It seemed we had a few thousand points each which could be redeemed for food and nick-nacs in the shop. We decided to leave it until the following day and 'redeem' everything at once. Got the monorail via MGM back to Homebase at Flamingo. Decided we were hun gry so went for the dinner of winners given our new founbd wealth after Mrs WHU hit on OZ - a holiday sandwhich at Earl of Sandwich in PH. I love those sandwhiches!

We played a bit around PH and then hit the Extra Lounge for some VP and to see if there was a band on. I had a few hits at VP and took away a nice $150 bucks or so and a couple of Corona, with a couple of Vodka soda's for Mrs WHU. Think the light system was in place but he comped us both without issue based just on my play. There was an American football game on - Dallas won in extra time I think....we wandered around a bit, played some slots and came back after half hour to listen to the band. They were very entertaining but played a few 'slow ones' when we wanted a bit more upbeat - decided to call it a night and head back to call it a night.

Fitbit suggests 30000 steps or 13.68 miles today

Monday 31 October - Halloween apparently, although this kinda passes us Brits by! Usual early start, little wander through Flamingo but pretty much made the Cromwell my base. Played some slots and a bit of their $10 roulette - no luck really but quite a fun table and croupier. I had a really 'choppy morning' with the gambling today. Started at the Cromwell and lost $60 really quickly in the first 3 slots I tried, no play and just sucked up my cash. Moved to a 'quick hits' I think and assumed I was on a penny machine, didn't check and played my usual number of lines and multiplier - $70 on one spin! Just goes to show you need to always check the denominations - I was down to my last $30 for the night and had only left Mrs WHU about 10 minutes earlier - damn!

Wandered around for a bit licking my wounds and not sure what to do - decided to try $20 in Buffalo (bank of 5 machines just by the Margaritaville entrance) - walked away from 2 machines with $100 back in my wallet - that's better! Feeling good again I thought I would try $20 in the next machine to catch my eye - it ended up being some Ninja game just across from the buffalo - stuck in $20 and cashed out at $279 - for me, a BOOM moment! Went and played some old respin games in Margaritaville and won, a small win on Beerhaus - a bit more roulette in the Cromwell and after about 3 hours, a great comeback - we now had $1500 in our 'winnings' pot with today's envelope to come! Great morning's work after a very bad start.

We had taken the MyVegas Bellagio buffet for this morning (collected it yesterday during our wander around - we did play a little in Bellagio also, they had a bank of 'Buffalo Trains, so why not)! Really enjoyed brunch buffet at Bellagio - not massively fancy I guess but a good selection for Mrs WHU and I and we both enjoyed a good hour and a half over it, having a chat, a few Mimosa (I paid extra for this) and a general good start to the day proper. Tipped well for the buffet and Mimosa and went for a wander around Bellagio (conservatory, etc) then on to Caesars, past Mirage and on to teh fashion show mall, across to Encore, Wynn (played Wammy game that I haven't played since my birthday trip at IP in 2011, really fun), Palazzo and Venetian -played in each and had a few drinks. As we walked through Harrahs realised it was just after 4 o'clock and could hear Viva Las Vegas - excellent Big Elvis was playing today (he missed Friday). We went back to the Flamingo, got changed and headed back to Harrahs for Elvis show at 5. As sual, he didn't disappoint - again, simple, easy, singalong fun. Had a couple of drinks there then went to get changed for dinner - decided we weren't that hungry, so a free Hooters meal and collect some 'swag' from our point play!

We got the monorail again to MGM, headed over to Hooters and calculated what we had earnt. The trip through MGM was fund, really busy due to their Halloween party, at least we saw some of the costumes and had the fun of Randy Savage in the foyer - Oh Yeah! Got top Hooters, played a bit and then went to see what we had earned. Basically tehy converted their daily play into points for us and we came away with 4 t-shirts, 4 mugs, some beer coozies, lanyards, water bottles, playing cards, die, etc - a nice little bag of goodies really - especially as we enjoyed playing there and won quite a bit as well! A good deal all round. We also chose from free wings and had them, more fries and onion rings with a couple of coctails - really fun night and meal to finish another great day of Vegas meanderings.

Todays Fitbit results 36,260 or 16.37 miles - this was the longest day!

Tuesday 1 November - time for the Vegas classic that is the Peppermill then on to Downtown. Better sleep last night so up a little later - played some at Cromwell and Harrahs, watching SEMA conventioneers heading to the show. No major wins but overall we have rasied the 'cash bank' to £2k, the plan now is to keep that to one side if possible!

Got the monorail to Westgate and played for a while. Grabbed a couple of Corona and walked over to the Peppermill - nice stroll in the morning sun. We knew this would not last once we got home so were soaking it up while we could! Got called for a seat fairly quickly but there was a mix up and we were pretty much left at the counter to fend for ourselves! All a bit strange - eventually we wre rescued and taken to a booth. Had a bloody Mary, I got a mixed hash brown thing with eggs on top and chorizo, really nice. Mrs Whu had a really large Spinage ommelette and a Mimosa - great food as ever. with coffee and juice, total was $51 - fantastic value for the BM and all the food - amazing as usual. We didn't go to the Fireside lounge last time we were here - what a mistake! We had the whole lounge to ourselves and had a great time, just sitting listening to some cheesy 70's tunes, with the fire bubbling, a really tasty Espresso Martini - I could seriously get used to this Vegas life!!

From here we walked up to Circus Circus, not much to say - played a little but it wasn't overly memorable. Starting to look really tired now I'm afraid - hope it gets a lift from somewhere - we always visit and it never seems busy, hope the old girl survives. We got a cab from here downtown, asked for the Container Park but the driver didn't understand me and said she had never heard of it?! She then dropped us just opposite El Cortez, about 50 yards down the road from....the Container Park, lol!

Had a wander round the container park - looks like a nice spot for a sit but not really much for us there. Headed into El Cortez for a bit of a play, then Neonopolis - went in teh Toy Shack just to say we have (yep, we watch Pawn Stars) - not much of note. The next door to the gaming centre place, where they have some pinball machines - went to the Hall of Fame last year, love a bit of Pinball. Played a Walking Dead game, Game of Thrones and lastly The Hobbit - really fun for me for half hour, Mrs WHU was ready to leave by the time I finished.

Wandered around Fremont for a bit, then headed to the Triple George for a beer and sit in the sun- love just sitting outside there, Mob Museum at the end of the road, D opposite and just soak up some sun. We popped in the D after and had one of those weird encounters, where someone asked me to 'watch their machine'while they went to the toilet. It was a Tarzan game, mid Bonus round with $270 in credits. I did mention to him when he came back that possibly he needs to rethink his strategy and I could easily have taken his money! His reply was to say I look trustworthy - I guess I forgot to order the 'thief on the lookout' face-mask for this trip!

Played in most casinos downtown, had a few ciders from teh bars outside, didn't win anything of note but had fun. Arrived at the 777 and had a pint and some 'happy hour' Nachos' to fill a gap. Continued on, with Mrs WHU having a look in the 'souvenir' shops, etc whilst I continued drinking! Taxi back to SLS, bit of a play and then monorail back to MGM. Quick trip to NYNY for some last momentos, a couple of bits from MGM and then back to Hooters - why not! We won a little but less than previously and then tehir systems went down - they adv ised we come back the following day for our last swag collection!

Called it a night after another long day - well almost! Mrs WHU did and I popped out for a last blast (it was our last night) - not much luck but held my own and had a few more drinks - back to bed by 3ish, planned to be up early and make the most of last few hours.

Wednesday 2 November - home time and I was already not happy! Was goingf to get up at 5 ish to get a last morning and full day in, had to leave for the airport at about 1.30pm so wanted to make the most of it. We were to tired though and slept until about 7.30 ish. We had the Mirage Buffet booked for today so we checked out at about 9, wandered over to the Mirage via Flamingo, Harrah's etc playing everywhere as usual. Played a bit at Mirage before heading into Cravings. another fine buffet, nothing too exciting but filling and the food was fine - the wine and beer flowing alongside coffee and 'comfort food' was just what we needed to set us up for the day.

Finished breakfast and got te monorail back to MGM, played a while then headed back to Hooters. They have changed the system over the last couple of days and instead of more free goodies (we were going to get a couple of t-shirts to give away as 'gifts'/momentos) and we about $7 each instead to spend. We ended up with a key-ring and some chocolate chips - again, something for nothing so we were happy! Lost a little but had fun. Decided on a last trip up to the Hard Rock having had fun there and generally liking the Vibe and music, etc. Once again, a fun time was had but the usual undertow of it being nearly time to leave dulled the mood a little. Got a couple of drinks, played a last bit then headed back to the Flamingo.

Collecetd our bags (eventually - they collected the wrong bags for us first time around) and got a cab back to the airport. No trouble with the fee, no long haul and overall we were happy with all the Taxis we used this trip. Don't have internet accesss without Wifi being from the UK, so didn't bother with Uber etc as we only had a few trips anyway, walked a lot and usec teh Monorail.

Flight completely uneventful - we both slept virtually the whole way back! Still recovering my sleep pattern nearly a week later but then I did average about 3 to 4 hours a night, mostly alchohol induced, so I shouldn't be surprised!

Overall, a quieter trip than last time but we had an amazing time. The MyVegas bits added some extras, enjoyed the lounge bars we went to, the music and generally being in Vegas. about halved our koney overall, so came back with our 'cash bank' which I pretty much call a win. Our oldest daughter will be working in Disney, Florida agin next year, so we may be back afterall as she wants to meet us in Vegas for one trip - I'm sure we can oblige.

Hope you have managed to saty with me and my dull explanation of our long walks around every casino have added some flavour to our stay! We loved it and can't wait to return - maybe next year I hope.

Fit bit for the last day 3000 steps, about 2 miles

Sounds like my mornings in Vegas, but my bride sleeps until 10:30 or 11:00 and I skip the note. She's confident I'll be back, I guess!

Very creative dressing up as Brits for Halloween! :poke:

Thanks for the great report, WHU66! Even those quieter Vegas trips are great!

Thanks for the detailed report ... I quite enjoyed following along. I'm Canadian with several English friends ... Chelsea, Sunderland, Tottenham, Arsenal .... but not West Ham!

I don't think I could nearly start drinking/drink as much as you seemed to have ... mind you, maybe 30 years ago!

I'm impressed you visit LV as often as you do. We're 2.5 hours away by plane and you have 10+! We're flying to London next fall ... long enough over the pole; you have to fly longer (ie. not over the pole).

I've visited Hooters often, but never won much of anything. Maybe should try again!

    Cheers, GG.

@WHU66 - we haven't stayed at NYNY - how was your suite? Would you stay there again? We really like the slots at NYNY so may book a stay next year since we have comp offer.

Really enjoyed following along - you guys got around!!! Funny how Hooters became your personal ATM for the better part of the trip. And the guy at the D who had you watch his machine was obviously good at spotting a'trustworthy' Brit - lucky for him! So nice to read you had an amazing time - and thanks again for sharing!

Haha, thanks Richard. Probably don't need to leave the note but like to give some idea of my whereabouts in case Mrs WHU wakes early and wants to join me - as you can see, I have a nomadic street!

Thanks Geogran. The 'suite' was really just a big room with a bit of a sitting area. It was really clean and well maintained which is important for us but other than that, we don't really need that much more! For us it is really just a base and, as above, as long as it is clean and well maintained, we are happy!

Thanks everyone for following along! Hope you enjoyed my recap....

Last couple of thoughts as I reflect having written this up in one chunk last night - Mrs WHU commented that she felt there were more 'sights' than usual this year, from the semi-naked entertainment downtown (why do people feel a 'mankini' is appropriate, the guy with the pink bikini, etc)? to the number of hard-up people we saw on the bridges all day, she felt there were more unfortunate visions this year - including the girls who feel some body paint and maybe a very small 'pasty' is enough for common decency outside Harrahs! Maybe she just saw more than usual, or maybe it is increasing.....

I forgot to mention a few encounters with the 'ladies of the night'. First was early morning (about 6am) as I was going down for an early morning gamble in NYNY. I forgot my player cards and turned straight around at the lobby floor to return to my room. I was in the lift with a somewhat disheveled looking guy and a younger lady. She was thanking him for getting her a bottle of water and discussing that this should be 'removed from the bill' later! I went back down to the casino and within about 10 minutes observed the same young lady walking through te casino swinging her bag - he was nowhere in sight! Either a very quick or cancelled transaction but she seemed pleased!

Another morning (Saturday) there was a whole group of security on the Casino floor at NYNY. I saw them 'escort' 3 young ladies out of the casino - quite amusing really, particularly the one who was followed to the toilets near the escalators and told to 'enjoy her day' whilst being followed out towards the exits! I then went to MGM and was playing a game facing the back wall of the section I was in and heard a voice behind me ask 'having any luck?' I said no, as I wasn't at that stage. She then moved to the side of the machine and asked again 'so, no luck? - I eventually let my slow morning brain catch up and said, no, definitely none! She kinda stroked the edge of the machine and walked away - 2 rolls later I hit for about $80 - hookah luck, who knew?

Lastly, I think there is a definite finish time for the ladies towards centre strip. 2 mornings running I was walking between Harrahs and the Cromwell I followed 3 different pairs of girls, clearly finished for the night! It made me chuckle anyway.....

So, as Mrs WHU has just pointed out, Vegas is a place of real dichotomy - for all the upsides there are downsides, we all have our own best of Vegas momenets and what's good for one may pass another by. The down at heel folks (we also saw one guy fighting himself, then another morning hitting a bin - clearly some serious psychological issues) make you think and I am still torn as to whether giving them money/food/beer etc is best. I did not give directly to them this year but have in the past, I just felt a bit 'torn' on this issue this time.

As before, thanks for following and we really enjoyed the trip once again! Looking forward to our return whenever that may be.....
