From what I had read the heroic security guard discovered his room location because the door was already open.

It was said the fuel tanks have double thick walls and were to far away for his shots to penetrate.
As for the car, if it didn't have a remote to set it off then he sure was going to drive it somewhere to do something it seems.

I wouldn't say smart just crazy to do it. It doesn't take any smart to create chaos. There is really no smart to his action. Just crazy demented action that's all even his planning is nothing ground breaking.

People with some kinds of metal illness are very good at hiding it from people.

Maybe I should have said with all his planning he thought he was smart but he wasn't smart enough to think about the smoke detectors. I in no way want to credit him with brilliance or anything like that. I love being corrected.

Not sure of the validity of this, but I heard yesterday, investigators don't believe the shooter was purposefully hitting the tanks, but rather those were stray bullets. Apparently, a decent number of people had broken through the airport's fence and were attempting to seek shelter in the gully by a runway and the gunman followed where they were running. Again... just scuttle-butt.

That is hollywood!! If he did that from the 32 floor of Mandalay Bay then that will be some feat.

There are rumors floating around that he maybe planned to blow up his car in the parking garage which would allow him try and escape with less detection. It's a rumor but it does make sense and the sheriff's office has said he was looking to escape.

I was talking to a friend about this (he’s a gun fanatic) and he said the only way he could blow up those tanks is with tracer rounds...then this morning I read that he was trying to buy tracer rounds recently...so that could be what he was trying to do...but just shooting the tanks with regular rounds wouldn’t blow them up (although at 600 yards with an an AR-15 they definitely could penetrate them with the rigut rounds )

of all the speculation and pronouncements by various pundits some of the gambling related stuff is the worst-- they just dont understand it. this one is really sad because it was said by some anonymous casino manager. what kind of casino manager would say you dont fly to vegas to play video poker and that he wouldnt blink for a second if he saw someone playing $100 bets at VP?

ok i get he wouldnt assume anything strange or weird about it because there are a lot of big gamblers but that is still probably way less than 1% of all video poker players betting that level and gambling six-figure credit lines so I would think any casino manager worth his salt would notice a player like that.

Winners of video poker tend to have above-average intelligence, keep accurate records, gather information and don’t “make waves” that draw attention, Bob Dancer, a professional player, told an audience Wednesday at South Point.

    Really? Who is Bob Dancer?
