Did they say that the security guard noticed the door ajar? I thought so and read it up above too.

Why would the door be ajar??? Mistake? Quick exit?

And then what do they do with traffic on strip?
Wired cams on room service cart in hall?

I was wondering that same thing when they said he approached the door because it was ajar. They also said he had the stairway door barricaded, was that by the room service cart?

Another reason to pray for the families-evidently the bodies of the victims will not be released for weeks, making the grieving process even harder by prolonging time until they can have a funeral for the loved ones. My friends are returning home tomorrow, not knowing when their daughter's body will be home for final rest.

On the other subject, we are still going on our trip to Vegas in November. If they scan us at the Wynn, I could care less. 10 minutes out of my day isn't a big deal. I still HAVE a life. I actually think Vegas will be safer now than ever before because people are more aware of what's going on around them.

Chairman at CET was exclusively for Terry Watanabe. He lost over $100M there.

Wynn has no separate classes for patrons, afaik.

But from reports, I get he was "preferred" status at multiple casinos.

"Chairman" is the top status at Station Casinos, however. So maybe that's where the unknowledgable NY Times reporter was confused. Since he liked VP, it's easy to believe he was "Chairman" there.

    I wondered about that too.

I wouldn't think that a cart would be enough to block the door to the stairs. Although, one photo did show the cart in front of a door, but I thought it was a room door. Now I have to go find that photo again.

You, @smartone and @shokhead beat me to these articles.

The LVRJ one about the fuel tanks is alarming in a what could have been sense.

The NYT one was fascinating and I urge people to read it if you have the time.

    Some bits:
For those of you asking about his casino records:

Motive? Doubtful, because it was so well planned, but at least ironic:
We all know "this guy" in the casino:
    OMG, he's @tringlomane ;)
The article also makes a few references to a machine he liked to play in the High Limit room that cost $100 per hand. This is just something they got wrong, correct? I don't know of any $20 machines. I'm assuming this is a $100 machine, $500 per hand for max bet, right?

There's a lot of juicy details relevant to VMBers in the NYT article. It's worth a read. https://mobile.nytimes.com/2017/10/04/us/stephen-paddock-gambling.html

I wanted to point out two other articles you should read.

    https://amp.thedailybeast.com/unarmed-security-guard-jesus-campos-took-on-las-vegas-killer-stephen-paddock

And then, ABC says: Hero security guard Jesus Campos who helped bring an end to the Las Vegas massacre tells ABC News he's fine. "I was just doing my job."

I said it before, but this security guard, Jesus Campo, is a hero. I believe that he is the reason the shooting only lasted 10 minutes. He was first on the scene, first to approach the room. He was unarmed the whole time, BTW. The shooter fired 200 rounds through the door at him, striking him in the leg, and he stayed to help the police clear the other rooms. He didn't go to the hospital until LVMPD made him go. And that bullet is still in his leg. If Mandalay Bay doesn't give him the mother of all bonus checks and a promotion, I may need to start a riot. Then he says, "I was just doing my job?" :nworthy:

    And a palate cleanser:

When Las Vegas is Your Home and You Are Far Away. - https://blog.rebelpilgrim.com/2017/10/las-vegas/

This is a very short blog post that I've seen shared around. It's by someone who lived in Vegas for a time and now lives elsewhere. It's wonderful.

Tannerite a company that sells an explosive target compound for outdoor shooting. The compound is two different chemical powders that you mix together in a little plastic jar, and when the jar is shot, it explodes. If you drop the jar, hammer it, or even shoot it with a low velocity bullet, nothing happens.

Anyone know if this is the taxicab entrance to the Mandalay Bay, or the taxicab entrance to the Four Seasons portion of Mandalay Bay?

It's amazing to see people standing around on their smartphones within earshot of a minute and a half straight of automatic gunfire. But then again, I might have been confused too thinking it were fireworks or anything else, so I'm not right to judge.

Looks like Alaska extended their change/cancellation out until the 8th now.

This might be out of line but i keep wondering if he was a board member or ever visited the sight. I know in the past we have had threads talking about stuff like this and what people would do.

I think "we" are an extremely small segment of the Las Vegas crowd.

    It could be $1 10-play Ult-X.

Or maybe $25 single line which is $125, but people could be just rounding it off.

Top Casino Security Personnel To Meet:

Note: for those of you who haven't heard of this publication, it was founded by John Ralston who's unquestionably Nevada's leading political commentator and journalist. He's got a small, but outstanding, team of reporters in the state, both north and south, and often scoops the major news outlets. Good to follow on Twitter as well.

Been thinking about some details. The guy complains about loud music coming from the room below his (country music) the night before he did his deed. Said to have made two complaints actually. Ironic how he was disturbed and sought out the hotel's assistance to resolve the disturbance. So, the next night, he smashed out windows and unloaded automatic weapons through the Windows and shot through his door at a security guard, possibly the same one who had responded to his noise complaints the night before. Then, I thought about him trying to use the fuel tanks as targets. If his goal was to blow them up, he shouldn't have needed so many rounds and guns. Was he expecting a shootout? Or was the broad shooting into the crowd an afterthought or in his plan?
In any regard, in hindsight, how odd to complain about noise to the hotel with whatever he had planned.

Now I’m really curious as to the motive. This guy was a serious gambler and had everything he wanted. Something had to have made him snap. I do wonder if he was a member here or if he visited our forums.
