Slot machines make money for the casino. They ain't going anywhere. The casinos are just looking to maximize their revenue per square foot. Moving slots around to create bar space, etc. Its the VP at bartops which are not a good use of space. Thats why Wynn stopped comping drinks and others are going voucher route. Would rather sell a craft cocktail for $15-$20 a pop then comp a .25 VP player.

The Mirage opened over 26 years ago. The new properties are strikingly similar considering the time difference. Despite all of these ideas, Vegas is just marching on. Adding a few nightclubs, shops and fusion restaurants doesn't mean the model is changing. They are finding new ways to maximize profits, which is smart business. The casino space and basic concepts are identical.

Interesting thought by the OP, but there have been no drastic changes and there likely won't be.

The people don't become enlightened, that was my point there. When you say that you guess there is enough stupid people, I'm not talking about a few thousand or hundreds of thousands, I'm talking in the high 90th percentile of the forty million annual visitors, like 30-something million.

Again, not talking about me or you or almost everybody who is a member of this board and other internet forums, but we make up such a microscopic minority that we don't really matter.

People are getting sick of putting their hard earned money into games and losing it in my theory. They would rather go have memorable experiences with the money like going shopping, eating at an upscale restaurant, go to spas, go see shows such as Cirque De Soleil, Music Acts such as Britney, Celine, and Cher, see comedy shows such as Ralphie May, Strip clubs, etc, than stick their money into games and lose it, but all of this is just my theory.

Yes, I like having memorable experiences like that. And I do when I vacation in other cities with no casinos. Vegas has casinos that operate under a combination of rules that no one else can match like being 24/7, free drinks, smoking, as many gaming positions as they want and the kinds of games they offer. Even in other places with casinos, you can't come for the shows and then just decide to try $20 on a slot or at a table. They need to stop trying to piss their good thing away.

Fully agree - among my circle of friends, I am the only Vegas regular and most haven't been at all. They know nothing about pay tables and BJ rule changes and odds. They would walk into a casino and find the lowest limit BJ table for an hour, have dinner, and perhaps a show. Next day, the trip out to the dam, walk along the strip, some penny slots, dinner and a show - rinse and repeat.

As you said, members of VMB and other sites make up .000001% of visitors so much of what is said here doesn't resonate.

Another thing I thought about is a large group on here started going to Vegas in the 2000's. My first trip was not long after 9-11. Got a flight and hotel (IP) from YYZ for $265 each! didn't come back until the financial crisis years (2008 onwards a regular) Prices were once again dirt cheap with a combination of expansion on the strip and bad economy. Perhaps a group of us got used to something that wasn't the norm? Someone has to pay for all the new shiny buildings and yes, we can blame owners being over leveraged but, perhaps demand has simply caught up to supply and until we get another little building boom going opening up more rooms we are where we are?

No. Vegas has just astutely found a way to attract previously non-Vegas visitors.

The house has always had the edge, every since casinos were invented. So what has all of a sudden caused this radical shift in how "people" view gaming?

There have been complaints that Casino games have been paying out way less than they did just 5 years ago.

I believe I was one of these "stupid" people when I first went to Vegas. I just gleefully gambled just to say I did, not knowing where the better games or odds were.

After many trips and reading about the games and learning on boards such as this one, I became a more educated Vegas visitor.

It's true that visitors such as those on these boards and others who know the better odds and paytables are such a minority we really don't make a difference. There are millions of newbies waiting to turn 21 so they can visit our adult playground.

I'll bet any new resorts that spring up on the Strip will have more space allotted to restaurants, clubs, and shopping. Spas, pools, and bars too.
