i got the flu this year and I'm feeling miserable. It's been going around and I'm one of the lucky ones I guess. Anyone else get it so far?

My mom caught it while we were in Vegas for New Years. The morning we were leaving she had a hard time breathing and had a bad headache. She has COPD and it quickly escalated after a few days and she ended up in the hospital for 4 days. They confirmed it was one of the flu strains. She refuses to get a flu shot but hopefully this was a wakeup call for her. Its been an uphill battle since she got sick. She is trying to quit smoking now but is getting really depressed at being on strong medications and not being able to smoke. I am praying it gets easier cause her mental health worries me. Been a hell of month so far.

COPD and smoking are poor partners. We had a guy (low 70's) that smoked a cigarette as we played each hole-- well over a pack a day. He got a patch of some sort from the VA and attended a support group as a back-up. It has been about 4 years and he gets excited when they burn tree stumps and dead trees/limbs from time to time as we play due to the smoke. He is constantly singing the praises of nicotine free life. If he could just stop shanking his life would be complete.
Good luck to you and your mom.

Have you had a diagnosis of true Influenza or might it be a bad cold or bacterial URI that you think of or call "flu"? Any "Quack In A Box" clinic can give you a swab test for true flu and if it's positive prescribe one of a few antivirals which will help. Don't delay! Those antivirals really work if you start them early but not so much if you procrastinate.

How timely. Got up this morning to find my husband still at home and on the couch. He's announced he has "the plague" and is "dying". I've been feeling crappy since Saturday, but I'm still upright and doing all the things. I'm hoping he just has some kind of crud and will heal quickly, so I don't have to smother him with a pillow. :wink2:

I've been lucky so far. I almost never get the flu - I can count on one hand the number of times I've gotten the flu in my entire life. I got shamed into the flu shot for the first time this year, so hopefully it does whatever it's supposed to do.

Working with children the past 7 plus years has built up my immune system so I rarely get anything. The first 6 months was awful though: Strep Throat, pink eye among other things.
Almost had hand, foot and mouth disease but it was just foot in mouth disease according to the wife.

Oh no, it sounds like the deadly Man Cold. My sympathies are with you.

Maybe your World Series high is wearing off!

I haven't had the flu for a few years, knock on disinfectant...

Best wishes, Publius!

I got the flu shot yesterday. I had planned to get it in October just before I fell ill with other crap. after that the doctors told me not to get the shot. yesterday, my family doctor said lets go ahead and do it. Publius, I hope you recover swiftly.

Looking more like the deadly Man Flu. I am pretty sure that there's something really important in Vegas right now that needs my immediate attention. :wink2:
oh c'mon go ahead and spoil him a bit. maybe when he is feeling better, he will spoil you for a bit. ;) as a grown man myself, i must admit, I can be a big baby when I am sick. (don't tell anyone i admitted it) seriously though, I hope he is better very soon!

I am spoiling him. I even went to the grocery store twice today. And I hate the grocery store. ;) He's had an endless supply of fruit smoothies and soup today. I hope it's helping.

BIG YEPPER Haven't had it in a few years. Was kind of mild first 2 days thought I was gonna shake it easy. Then BAM rapid fire machine gun sneezes. Couldn't breath even with sinus meds. now coughing and hacking so bad my ribs hurt. almost over.
