    My Trip Report

ThIs may take a few days to finish, I don’t even attempt live reports anymore, but here goes my recap of the weekend.

I have been waiting for this trip for a long time. One of my nieces and I have gone to Vegas mid May every year for 8 years, with the exception of last year. The last time I saw her was May 2019. This niece will follow me to any concert I want to see in Vegas as long as we can spend at least one day lounging by the pool drinking piña coladas. She’s been to magic shows, drag shows and all kinds of music, the last concert was Cheap Trick and Poison.

I arrived at the airport to find it fairly crowded at 11:00 a.m. and I was extremely happy to see Vino Volo open for a pre flight flight of bubbly. I also got an extra flight pour for $2 for being a loyalty member. My temporary A List netted me an A36 boarding pass, thank goodness as I had totally forgotten to check in and remembered at 4 p.m. Thursday! Another on time departure and we arrived a few minutes early. I carried my bag on and was met in baggage claim by CET driver Robert. He picked me up a few months ago and remembered me and we chatted all the way to Bally’s. I went to check in at Diamond check in where a masked employee told me that masks were no longer mandatory if you were vaccinated. She said that they had removed all the plexiglass from all the gaming tables and as I walked out of the diamond checkin, thIngs were beginning to look like old times. As I made my way to my room in the resort tower I realized I was going to be in the same exact room I was in when I was there the first weekend of March.

After unpacking I texted our host an head over to Planet Hollywood to see her, and hit up the ABC store for room mimosa fixings. Our hose found me losing money at a $1 top dollar machine and she visited with me for 20 minutes or so, we are fortunate to have a really nice host. We talked about traveling and she mentioned the mask update. She was masked but is vaccinated, I was masked because I am not. After she left I made my shopping run, went back to Bally’s and dumped the stuff in the room and went down to gamble and wait for my niece. When she arrived we went onto the room and visited for awhile and she told me her cab driver gave her what he was calling real time updates on masking requirements. She is vaccinated but this was her first trip in 2 years and was a little nervous.

We had dinner reservations at StripHouse. The one thing I love on girls trips is splitting meals. We split a Caesar, FYI their dressing has horseradish in it and some bites can clear your sinuses! Main course was a 12 oz filet and we had Brussel sprouts and potato purée. Years ago on one of our first trips together we saved room for the 24 layer chocolate cake so we decided to do it again. It was huge and delicious. We had cut off chunks and maybe ate half of it and took the rest to go. Back to Paris for some HL top dollar, hubs had given me some $$ to play on the machine he won $5k on on February, we weren’t so lucky. We went back to Bally’s and stopped at the HL tables to say hi to my pit boss friend, he was about to go on break so I gave him the cake and said enjoy. He texted me a half hour later and said he decided to eat his dessert first!
I went to play the new game that took the place of high card flush called I ❤️ suits. I noticed some dealers and some pit bosses without masks, I also noticed many bartenders without them. We slotted around after I played cards then called it a night. She has a 4 year old at home and the time difference from her house to Vegas is 3 hours so she was beat. Pocket dump when I got back to the room, down $1,000. That’s ok, I’ve been down worse on a first day!

Poor starts always(sometimes) turn out better than hot starts (maybe) so let’s go forward. Hopefully it gets better.

Saturday morning we had a brunch reservation at La Cave at Wynn but it wasn’t til 10:45. When you wake up at 8 and you’re hungry, 10:45 seems like forever. We got ready and thought we’d hit up LaVazza in the Lobby for coffee and croissant but their line was 20 people deep. We decided to sit at Sully’s Bar and have a coffee and wait til 10 to get a Lyft. We sat down, niece put $10 in a machine and I put $20. She finds roulette on her machine and proceeds to turn her money into $60 as we wait. We waited almost 10 minutes to get connected with a Lyft driver.

We thought we’d try to check in early at LaCave but they made us wait til our reserved time. We started with a mimosa that had way too much o.j. in it, we opted not to do the bottomless because having a drink at Parasol Down has been on my list of to do’s and they were going to be open after brunch. I was happy to see that La Cave has ditched the small cocktail napkins in favor of full sized ones. I read sometime a year or so ago that @Flowers commented on the napkins and when I was there in December they still had them so bravo for upsizing the napkins! This was my nieces first time and she loved it. They started us with some pastries, 2 danishes and a chocolate croissant. Next up was bacon and sausage, some sort of waffle with snickers like toppings and a pancake with apple cinnamon topping. They were all good, the pancake with the apples my favorite bites so far. We then got the cast iron skillet with scrambled eggs and caramelized onions, a flatbread that had ham, egg and cheese and s sandwich that was similar to the flat bread. They also brought those yummy tater tots with gravy, sour cream, bacon and chives. My favorite thing was the cornflake crusted French toast. We passed on more of the savory type things, sliders and chicken wings, but we thoroughly enjoyed all we had. I was waiting for the yogurt parfait and no one ever came by so I asked a guy that walked by if he could get us the yogurt and fruit cup. My niece raved about the fruit and I could have eaten 3 of the yogurt. I was surprised to hear the couple that was sitting next to us tell his waiter they were disappointed. He brought over a manager and she asked if there was something else she could get for them and they just said they were disappointed. I never heard much else as they talked to her, they just kept saying disappointed. We definitely weren’t disappointed. After we ate we went to play megabucks until Parasol Down opened. When it opened we grabbed a table outside and we both ordered the Rose Sangria, it was the best thing we drank all weekend. It was pretty windy on Saturday, several times we had to catch the drink menu to keep it from flying off the table.

Observations from Wynn, lots of people must be vaccinated because there weren’t a lot of patrons in masks. Wynn is such a beautiful place, The vibrant colors of all the flowers and the intricate details on their displays fascinate me. I work for a landscape company and can appreciate the effort to keep everything looking so beautiful.

We stood out front and scheduled Lyft to pick us up and we watched our driver get closer to us. Two minutes out we started to walk towards the pick up area and my phone lost service and it canceled my ride! I tried to reconnect and it finally came up and told me we’d have to wait 10 min for a driver so we ended up taking a cab. Has anyone else had this happen in front of Wynn waiting for a ride share?

Saturday afternoon was a mix of slotting around, napping and reading our books. I do Vegas different ways with different people. Hubby and I power gamble, I mean after breakfast we hit the machines and only stop for meals, no sightseeing, no shows, no touristy stuff. The exception to this is when we take our fall trip during college football. We will go to the room to watch games and occasionally watch one in the sports book if we don’t get it in the room. As I said earlier, my niece has a 4 year old so our trips revolve around pool time, concerts, dining and napping. We opted for no pool because it was sooooo windy. I’m not gonna lie, I do like a good nap!

Our dinner reservation was at Lago at 7:15 so we chilled in the room for a few hours before dinner. We checked in at 7 because the confirmation I received mentioned patio seating is first come first served, unfortunately we didn’t get patio seating but the oddest configuration of window seating. It was a stretch to even remotely try to watch the fountain show. I was really hoping to like Lago but the best I can say is that it was ok. We each had a glass of wine, we shared a Caesar salad (which was 2 of the tiniest hearts of romaine that were mostly the hard core and a drizzle of dressing), she had the lasagna with bolognase and I had the chicken parm. Mine was a large piece of chicken plunked into the center of a plate with nothing else, not even a garnish. Hers was pretty unappealing looking but it was really tasty, as was mine. Our waiter seemed a bit harried but I think he was also working a larger table outside of the room we were in. We declined dessert because we had been waiting all day to hit up O’Sheas for frozen Baileys.

My niece told my great nephew she would bring the little dude a toy from Vegas. She told me Friday morning before she left he said “mom, I’m going to miss you when you’re gone. I think you should bring me 3 toys”. How I love that kid! She said they watched a show on how flamingos are born white and how they get their color so we stopped at the gift shop at the dirty bird across from the closed buffet and got him a stuffed flamingo. We went to O’Sheas and were able to use my diamond drink vouchers for frozen Baileys, then we head to Harrahs so I could play my favorite $5 triple stars machine. When we got there a lady was getting a $4,000 hand pay on the machine. That seemed to be the theme of the weekend, Friday night at the Paris HL I was playing top dollar and a guy hit a $7,200 hand pay on the triple stars machine behind me, I ended up playing the $1 triple stars for awhile then we went back to the HL and the same lady was still on the machine. When I was in Vegas in March the machine was out of order, someone appeared to have put their fist through the glass! We walked back to Bally’s where I played the suits game awhile. I introduced my niece to the lock it link machines on Friday so she went off in search of Huff n Puff. She found me in the high limit around 11:30 and said she was heading to bed. I moved from top dollar to Megabucks and put $100 in. I was hitting a bunch of line hits when a lady sits down to my right on some sort of Vegas themed lock it game that was a ten cent min machine, I kept hearing this chink chink sound so I watched awhile. The chinking sounds were when a black chip landed and it took 6 chips to trigger the lock it bonus. She gets this one bonus where one chip said major and the major was just over $7,100! I think she ended up with $7,600 on her bonus. Again, another hand pay nearby. I continued to plug along on my Megabucks machine, hitting quite a few things that kept me playing. At one point I looked up and I had almost 500 tier credits! I had been keeping track of my TCs so I knew with 510 more points I would have 1,000 for the day and would get the 1,000 bump so I played til I had them. At that point I had about $425 on the machine so I told myself play up to $500 or down to $400. After an hour and half total time on the machine I had 530 tier credits and cashed out at $501. Pretty pleased with that being I only had that original $100 in the machine. That made me happy and cut my total trip loss to $1,600. Again, I’ve been down more than that so I was ok. I stopped to talk to my pit boss friend then head to bed. My niece was crashed and didn’t even hear me come in.

Pool day! Sunday morning we had breakfast reservations at MAG. It’s my nieces all time favorite place for breakfast. We made room mimosas and took them with us. Our favorites are not part of MAG’s abbreviated menu but the manager let us make some substitutions so we pretty much got what we wanted. Our faves are the bananas fosters waffles and the ham and cheese crepe with egg. Their special crepe that day was bananas foster so we asked if we could get the bananas with the waffles instead. The manager said that sounded good, or he said to try it with the French toast. We also got the ham and cheese omelet and bacon and much needed coffee!

We had to check into our cabana at Bally’s by 11:30 so we went to check in, then went to the room to get our stuff. So glad I’d asked our host to make a reservation a few months ago as the cabana was only $125, Sunday they were going for $500! We were able to use my diamond drink vouchers for tasty Miami Vice’s. The pool didn’t appear to be at capacity, in fact it looked like they had about 25% of the loungers out. The water was pretty chilly so we didn’t get too far in. The weather was actually very nice, 81 and slightly breezy. Around 3 it clouded up and looked like rain was coming so we called it a day a half hour later. Our room faced the pool so I watched the rain in the distance. We got cleaned up and decided to go ahead and get packed up. We were hungry so we went to Hexx and got on the waitlist. This was the only meal we didn’t have a reservation for. They told us 45 minutes so we went into the casino and I put $100 in the $1 2x 3x scatter pay machine and 20 minutes later we got our text that the table was ready. We split a Caesar salad and pepperoni pizza. They have really good pizza. The pepperoni has slivered fried garlic on it...soooo good. Our server was great too.

I lost $$ in the HL at Paris then we went back to Bally’s. My friend’s daughter had given me a $10 ticket she had forgotten to cash when we went to Bally’s in March. I told her I’d run it one spin on the $5 double top dollar. Well her mom heard me say that so she gave me $10, then 2 of my girls in the office gave me $10 and my hubby gave me $10. I asked my niece if she wanted in so she gave me $10. This would give us 7 spins. I told them any win over $140 we’d split 7 ways. My friend, her daughter, one of the girls from work and I are in a group chat on messenger so they wanted me to face time them when I got to the machine. I called them up and they watched me play. I had a couple of $125 hits but we played through them. Then got a bonus! I had a feeling I was going to get stuck with 15 credits but on the last offer I got $600 so we all had a decent return on our $10 investments. My niece went off to play huff n puff so I stayed at the machine and called hubby to tell him he’d won $$. I told him I was about to play my $375 freeplay so I loaded the machine. First spin I hit a bonus and won $1,700! Finally a hand pay! While I waited hubby told me run his winnings through the regular $5 top dollar machine, no luck. I ended up running through my freeplay with no other big hits. My niece came back and I moved to the dollar machine. I hit a few bonuses then had a nice hit. After that I cashed out, cashed my tickets and we called it a night. We stopped to see my pit boss friend to say goodbye.

Back in the room my niece counted her money and she had $50 less than she started with. I had $500 less than I started with. I always enjoy my time with my niece, I just wish she didn’t live so far away. I’m hoping that she and her hubby and munchkin come back this fall for my dad’s bday.

This was my 5th trip since Vegas reopened and this was the most back to normal it has felt. All the plexiglass was gone from vp bars and table games, also MAG had removed them from between their tables in the sunroom. I didn’t see any of the tubs of wipes like the casinos had out previously to wipe down machines but I did notice the sanitizer dispensers at most entrances. Most still had mask dispensers as well. If I were to guess, I would say that 75% of the people did not wear masks. I am not vaccinated so I wore mine with the exception of at restaurants and at the pool. My niece wore hers most of the time, although she’s vaccinated. This was her first trip in 2 years so she was a bit nervous. I know that restrictions are easing even more June 1 so we will see what things are like when we head back for my birthday. We got our confirmation from our host yesterday for a panoramic suite at PHo.

    Thanks for reading!

I looooved your trip report. I am really close with my aunties (they are truly more like older sisters to me), so this trip report was just lovely. Your trip sounds perfect and just like the one I hope to take with my mom later this year/early next year. Side note, thank you for being honorable and leaving your mask on while unvaccinated. That kind of stuff gives me faith in humanity again:

Can’t wait to read your TR after your Bday trip!

I like when people refer to hosts as “friends” even though it’s mostly business. We do that.
Nice 1700$ hit. Those are fun. I need more fun. :p Thanks for the write up.
