I understand that the California's coffee shop, the Market Street Café, is a pretty good place to go? Nice breakfasts, decent burgers...

Your understanding is correct. Nothing fancy, i honestly haven't ever had one of their burgers... usually it's either the 9.99 prime rib special, their daily local special, or if it's late night to early morning, their oxtail soup

They make great breakfasts. If you feel adventuresome try their Filipino breakfast with the sweet sausage and eggs anyway you like.

Their breakfast buffet is solid and I believe costs $6.99 all you can eat. They also include oatmeal with milk, raisins, and brown sugar if you ask for it.

And their Cal Burger is the bomb! Really great burger with or without cheese. Fries are always freshly made, hot and crispy outside and moist inside. The burger patty is huge, made to order, and not dry.
I forget what the price is but it's like 7 or 8 dollars with drink.

It easily competes with the other "name brand" burgers that cost twice as much.

Go eat there!! Yum Yum! Only downside is it can get ridiculously busy.

I like the Island style short ribs (appro. $9.99), a thick slab of short rib marinated in teriyaki sauce. It is usually very tender where I even eat the rubbery tendon parts that surround the bones leaving only the bones left on my plate.

Thanks for the pics of my favorite foods surf, indeed the short ribs are very good!

I take it the $6.99 breakfast buffet doesn't include made to order omelets?

How's the coffee?

They serve a really great salmon, also. Huge portion, moist, Mmm.

To me the coffee at the Cal is lame. The coffee is weak and doesn't have any flavor. It is just like drinking tea. The Cal could really improve the brand of coffee that they use which I think is Farmer Brothers. Heck even Yuban would be better than the weak coffee that the Cal uses now.

Thanks. I hate weak coffee.

For $1.50 more I'll take the Fremont buffet with freshly made pancakes and omelets.

What I like is that it is $6.99 everyday. If you do not care for the weekend champagne brunch, you can get a breakfast buffet on weekends.

I prepared a complaint letter about the weak coffee served in the Market St café which I will deposit in the suggestion box at the cashier when I visit next week. I'm pretty sure it'll fall on deaf ears but who knows miracles can happen (lol). The weak coffee served at the Market Street café is in stark contrast to the 100% Kona coffee which is served in the Redwood which is considered to be the best coffee world wide. I don't expect Market Street café to serve 100% Kona coffee but anything will be better than what they currently serve in the Market Street café should be a step up.
