    My Trip Report

    Saturday 24th Feb.

So, this is 10 years of Vegas visits, well it will be 10 years in October. I’m going to mark this though as its a 10-year celebration. It all begins in Manchester UK and I check in with Virgin Atlantic for my very long day. My trip was altered as Delta changed their flight after I booked which mean I have 5 hours in Atlanta. I have an extra legroom seat and it’s a comfy flight over to Atlanta. The time when you don’t mind a delay doesn’t happen. I arrive in nice sunshine on time, I make my way through to immigration and it’s not a big queue. They announced on the flight that Atlanta were trialling a system, so you didn’t have to fill out the blue customs form.

I use the machines that I have used before and printed my slip out and took it around to the desk. A couple of questions later and I’m through to luggage collection and it’s already there. I recheck and then it’s what to do next after getting through security. Being as I have plenty of time I walk to the next terminal to waste some of that time. I find a bar and indulge myself in a few drinks. A guy sits a seat away from me and then two ladies turn up. They ask if we can all move up, so they can sit together, this is no problem.

The guy and the two ladies start talking and I carry on drinking, I get involved in the conversation and the guy is on his way to Australia. He has flown from Memphis to Atlanta, then he goes on to L.A. Next, he flies over to Australia via Singapore. He then is doing a short tour around Australia before a return to the states. It’s all for work but that is one hell of a trip. He goes for his flight and the women also go, he then comes back as there is a delay on his flight. We have a beer and a chat before he goes for the last time.

I’m getting a bit hungry now and I go in search of food. I take the easy option that is Subway. After that I get the plane train to terminal A for my flight. I find another bar for a beer and then a walk around waiting for my flight. I notice a flight going to Bozeman, this makes me chuckle as I remember it from an episode of Big Bang Theory. Soon my flight is ready to board, and I get in line and get on the plane. As I get to my seat I notice there is a guy already sat there. Rather than say that’s my seat, I do the check the boarding card thing, even though I know it’s my seat.

He moves and explains that he may need to use the bathroom a few times. I said that’s ok as I have an arthritic knee and I need to move about as well. He wasn’t getting my aisle seat anyway. We take off and we are still climbing after a few minutes when he asks about using the bathroom. I tell him he can’t at moment, just then a woman gets up and blows my advice straight out of the window. He then asks a stewardess if he can use the bathroom. She gives that conservative and I never told you this answer. She said, I can’t say yes, and I can’t no, it’s up to you. So, he wants to get up and I let him for the first of many times during the flight. I fill my time with watching American Top Gear, I didn’t realise this has had a reboot. The Brit version gets Matt Le Blanc and the U.S. version gets a British motoring journalist I have never heard of.

Soon enough I’m hitting the tarmac of McCarran Airport, well the plane does but you get what I mean. I get out and it feels so good to be back and soon on the tram and then I get my luggage. I get a cab to Tuscany and the check in is quick and soon enough I’m my room. Tuscany have just finished a refurb of the rooms which include furniture and bathroom.

    20180224_224301.jpg

It’s a quick fresh up and unpack before I’m walking up Flamingo towards the Strip. I walk over to the Linq Promenade and first call is Tilted Kilt. I’m greeted by one of the girls who I know and she’s glad to see me. The feeling is mutual as well. I have a beer or two in there and three guys come in and sit near me. After a while one of them is getting the shots in and I can guess the others didn’t want them. I was laughing, and the guy just said.

    “Your getting one too.”

Only in Vegas does a guy you have never spoken to buy you a shot. I’m not sure what it was, I think it was Bourbon. I get chatting to one of his friends, he’s a Cubs fan but I don’t hold that against him. They head out as it comes to closing time and I have a last beer in there. Despite being up for what seems forever I’m wide awake. That is the power of Las Vegas, I head over to O’Shea’s for some more drink. I end up chatting to the guys from Tilted Kilt for a while before they disappear. I go back to Tuscany and I have a couple of beers while chatting to the staff. I feel then its time for some sleep.

Coming up on this report, Big Elvis, first time in a strip club and a sombre visit to south Strip.

So, it’s a late start given I was up 24 hours or so previously. I start at Tuscany for a drink and to get me in the mood. I also needed some food, so I went for the steak at Marylins café at Tuscany. I decided to go Downtown as I just love the vibe there. I got Lyft to El Cortez and then had a walk along Fremont. I start at the D which is my hotel for my April trip, although it was for this trip before I switched to Tuscany. Nothing against the D but I do really like Tuscany. I have a drink in the D before moving across to Fremont, I go to the Filament bar for a drink.

The guy behind the bar is eastern European and always reminds me of Eddie the wedding chapel owner from the Hangover. He does say to me.

    “I remember you.”

I’m expecting him to follow it up with you crazy bastard. I say hello to him and I get a drink and have a walk through the casino. I then walk up to Golden Gate which is my home place downtown. I have a seat at the bar and the staff are fairly new but, one of them recognises me and we have a brief chat. I have a few beers in here before walking back down Fremont. I have a look at what has replaced the Vegas Club, at least it’s just not some boards. I like the screen that has been put in to make look a little better than just some boarding.

I get lyft back to the Strip and I get dropped off at TI to go into Gilleys bar. I walk in and a guy at the entrance asks me for I.D. I tell him I don’t have any on me, I also point out that I’m definitely over 21. He’s not for letting me in and there’s point in arguing as he will just get security, so I just leave. I do usually have my driving licence on me but this time I didn’t.

I haven’t finished with Gilleys though, more on this in the week. I head over to the Linq and I end up in somewhere I won’t get questioned. That place is O’ Shea’s and I have a few drinks in there before walking over to Paris for a couple of drinks. I then walk back to Tuscany for a beer or two before heading to bed.

I was up at about 10am and got ready for another day. I started off at Tuscany’s coffee shop Boggata for something to eat and a coffee. I had a walk out on the Strip and a wander around before a meeting with a fellow VM member. Over the weekend I had a message from Hotreds about meeting up. He suggested Rhumbar at 1pm and I was good with that. I have never been in here despite passing it several times. I got a beer and took a seat and looked around, I didn’t know what he looked like. I did tell him I would wear my Stig t shirt, so he could spot me. It wasn’t long before he showed up along with his wife Karen.

We had a drink and a good chat about Vegas and all sorts of other things as well. It’s always nice to meet other members from the message board. I hope our paths cross again sometime when we are both in Vegas. After I left Rhumbar I had a walk into Mirage for a look at the memorabilia shop in there. I then take a walk into Forum shops for a look around the memorabilia shops. I walk through Caesars and onto the Strip and walk back to Tuscany and decided to my VP going.

I sat at the bar and put a $100 to start and see how it goes. This happened after a while.
    20180226_173747.jpg
I put another $40 in and was up and down and started to lose and I was down to about $15 when this happened.
    20180226_201154.jpg
Of course, it was a progressive and it was over $1200 so I got $900 out of it, still not bad for my first VP session of the holiday. I tipped the bar staff and finished my play but had a few drinks and just chilled that evening at Tuscany.

    Tuesday 27th Feb.

I was up for around 10am and headed to the café for breakfast. I had the eggs benedict which really is good. I go for a walk and the weather is quite cool, I walk up to Ballys and walk through there towards Paris. I decide to get a fleece as I think it’s not going to warm up much today. I get a cheap one from one of the gift shops between Ballys and Paris. I walk through Paris and out onto the Strip. I head south and walk into Miracle Mile for a look around some shops especially the memorabilia one that’s in there. After coming out of there I head over the bridge and through Crystals and end up in Aria. I get a drink at one of the bars and chat briefly with the barman.

I head out of there and through to Monte Carlo/Park MGM. I’m amazed how much work has gone on since I was last here. The front is closed off and I end up coming out of a side entrance. I walk into NYNY and head to Nine Fine Irishman for a beer. I then walk from NYNY over the bridge and through MGM. I walk over to Tropicana and carry on south. I walk past where the Oct 1st shooting took place. You can’t see anything unless you peak through the gaps in the gate. I didn’t feel I needed to do that and walking past was enough, there are some flowers on the gates.

    #VegasStrong

I continued south on the Strip and I haven’t been this far south since my first visit nearly 10 years ago. I’m amazed how many empty lots. I get to the Harley Davidson showroom and decide to have a look inside. I’m not a bike guy, when I was 16 I did have a bike and got knocked off. I broke my ankle and had two pins in it and had 2 weeks in hospital and 6 weeks in plaster. I decided then that four wheels were better for me. I went inside, and a familiar smell hit me straight away. When I was in high school I used to walk past a motorcycle shop on my route to and from school. Sometimes I would go in and that smell of newness would always hit you. I got the same thing here.

I was expecting just a room full bikes, how wrong could I be. It is a large building with not just bikes but, clothing and accessories. They basically sell anything and everything with Harley Davidson on it. I walk out of there and I decided I might as well go and see the Las Vegas sign. I visited it in 2008 and never been back since. It was now starting to rain lightly, I decide to still go to the sign as I have got this far.

Nowadays of course there are crossings there to get to and from it safely. Back in 2008 it was life in your hands stuff trying to cross Las Vegas Boulevard. Even with the crossings there I noticed that some people can’t wait to cross when it’s safe to do so. Might as well take a couple of pics while I’m here.

    20180227_125808.jpg
I head back north and take some pics as I walk along.
    20180227_130217.jpg
This used to be across the road when the Hacienda was where Mandalay Bay now is. I think it had another location north Strip previous to that as well.
    20180227_130328.jpg
Not your usual Vegas pic you see on here, as I said before there are a lot of vacant lots down here. This is pretty much across the road from Mandalay Bay convention centre. I have read the history of Vegas from John-UK. I'm thinking it's either where the Klondike was or the Glass Pool Inn which was formerly known as Mirage before Steve Wynn bought the name for well, his Mirage. There is a round patch of overgrowth which I think could be where the over ground pool was. Feel free to chip in.
    20180227_123247.jpg
This place is still going, somebody's staying here.
    20180227_130547.jpg
Is there one that says Scenic Route Ends.

I cross over at Mandalay Bay and decide to have a walk in there, just as I’m heading towards the entrance near the convention centre a guy is walking towards me.

“Hey buddy, you from around here.” He asks.

I tell him I’m a long way from home.

“I just wanted to see where that knucklehead shot those people.”

I tell him to crossover and I use the Sky Vue towers as a reference point.
    20180227_131059.jpg
Talking about Sky Vue towers, it's certainly a case of location, location.location.

I go into Mandalay Bay and walk through the casino, I don’t know if it’s just me but, the casino space is so big, but it doesn’t seem to be full of machines. I walk thorough to the shops and I have a look in the memorabilia shop before going into Ri Ra for a couple of beers.
    20180227_131626.jpg
According to the plaque, this was used during his tour.

I then headed back up the Strip via Luxor, Excalibur and NYNY. I carried on and got towards PH and I decided it was time for a drink. I popped into Twin Peaks and had a cold beer in there before heading back to Tuscany.
    20180227_144141.jpg
    Goodbye Monte Carlo.

I got showered and ready and I was out again. I got Lyft Downtown and got dropped off at El Cortez. I made my way along Fremont Street and went to Golden Nugget for something to eat at the buffet. After filling up I headed to Golden Gate for a few beers and a chat with the bar staff. I leave there and walk back down Fremont and get to El Cortez before getting Lyft back to Tuscany.

As some may know there is a Gentlemen’s Club next to Tuscany on Flamingo. I have walked past it a few times, so I decided to go and have a look. There is no cover or drink minimum. You walk straight in to the room, there is no entrance as such. I walk in and there are two guys sat at the bar and a couple of women at the other end of the bar. I’m presuming they are the dancers.

I ordered a bottle and it was $5 which I though was cheap for this kind of place. In the corner of my eye I spot one of the women staring at me along the bar. All I can describe her as long blonde hair. (Think Lady Gaga in Poker face) and staring eyes. I’m thinking I’m drinking this and going, next up another blonde hair woman sits next to me. She’s in full black underwear mode. She starts to chat, and she seems a lot less scary than Lady Gaga. She asks if I would like a tour of the place, now it’s only one room and it’s not that big. I can tour the room without getting up from my seat at the bar.

She gives me the price list, I’m not too bothered really, she asks if I want a dance. I politely decline, and she stops talking to me, which I thought was quite funny. She goes over to dance and I get another bottle as I start to relax as Scary Lady Gaga has her claws into one of the other guys at the bar. After she’s finished with him, she comes over to me. We chat briefly, and I decline her offer for a dance. She tells me if I change my mind to come and see her, no chance of that then. She then moves on to her next victim. I have one more beer and then go back to Tuscany for a drink.

I’m sat at bar at Tuscany and next thing I hear a guy shouting, I turn around as everyone else did. His chair goes over and he’s yelling at this guy stood near him. A manager who was stood at the bar goes over and security turn up as well. Turns out the guy shouting was mad as the other guy was asking him for money. The guy doing the asking is escorted away, I have another couple of beers before heading to bed after a long day.

Hi Stig, so an obvious question from a fellow Brit is what happens to the money you were short paid on the progressive royal? Do you get to claim that back at a later date?

Yeah I do need to look at it more and will probably get a professional to look at it for me. I won for the first time last year and it took me years to do that. I didn't expect to get another so soon. They told me that the U.S embassy in London would be able to sort out the forms. When I rang them they said they don't deal with that now. I should stop playing the progressive as anything below $1200 is not taxed.

OK thanks. If you ever do get anything sorted out it would be useful to know. I've only ever had one royal and that was just the standard $1000 and I've never hit a big enough slot win either to be taxed, though no doubt one day it should happen.

    Wednesday 28th Feb

Woke up just before lunchtime and got ready and went to Bogatta coffee shop for brunch. I then made my way out and walked up Flamingo Rd and crossed between Ballys and Cromwell. This must be the worst crossing in Vegas. You wait an age for the lights to change then you are only hallway across and the 20 second countdown starts. I go in to Cromwell and have a drink at the bar. Not pool season so no perving this visit. After there I walk through Flamingo and on to the Linq promenade. I walk along to Tilted Kilt for a couple beers in there before moving on to O’Shea’s. I have a few beers in there and then move on northwards on the Strip.

I walk as far as Venetian and I go inside as not been in for a while. My intention was to go across the bridge to TI. I then discovered Black Tap the craft beer place. I decide to go and have look what they have. I look at the menu and there is some strong stuff on there. I go conservative and have the Firestone. I just have the one and walk across to TI.
    20180228_154844.jpg
    Some strong stuff on there.

I go into Gilleys and guess what I get served without being asked for I.D. I have a beer then in to the casino and I go to the bar. I put $20 in and start playing, this is only to keep my card going as I don’t do much gambling here like I used to. It doesn’t amount to anything, I think I might have used all my good luck from the gambling gods this trip. I come out of there and walk along the Strip outside Mirage. I cross over and go in to Harrah’s. Big Elvis is on at the piano bar so, I go in and the place is busy as it always is when he’s on.
    20180228_172504.jpg
I take a seat at the bar and get a bottle and before he starts there is a presentation. It’s his 49th birthday and he is given an Elvis shaped cake. He starts his show and as always is in great form. Everyone at the show also got a piece of birthday cake. At the end of the show he invites a guy up who he knows. The guy is full on J R Ewing and says.

“I’m sorry if you can’t understand me, I don’t speak English I speak Texan.”

He then launches in to some jokes.

I was in a bar and a woman got on a table.

“Those are good legs.” I said

    “You think so.” She replied.

I said “yes, if they weren’t good legs the table would collapse.”

A girl came over to me and said.

“I’m in to you, do you have a number?”

“Do you have pen.” I replied.

    “I sure do.” She said.

“Well you better get back to it before the farmer realises your missing.”

A woman comes over to me and says.

“If you were 20 years younger and 50 pounds lighter I would be in to you.”

I replied. “If I was 20 years younger and 50 pounds lighter, I would be in to that girl with the blonde hair over there.”

Not exactly PC stuff and a few quiet laughs around the room. He then says a few things about Pete Vallee. Elvis leaves the building and its Karaoke time. A guy murders my karaoke song which is The Gambler. A guy from England then does his Elvis bit singing Always on My Mind, he's good to be honest.. I decide to move on and end up in O’Shea’s. I have a beer or two in there and say hello to some of the staff I know. I go across to Tilted Kilt and have a drink and I’m getting a bit hungry now, so I get a menu and have a look. I end up with the chicken wrap with fries and its good.

I stay a bit longer for a couple more beers before heading back to Tuscany. I go back to the room and freshen up and get changed. I go down to the casino and have a couple of beers in there. I had messaged my mate about Club Platinum that I went in the previous night. He told me I went to early and if I went later it might be a bit busier and I wouldn’t get hassled. Spoken like a man with experience I said, he replied you bet.

So, with it being later I thought I would have another look at it, if you know what I mean. It was slightly busier than the previous night. The guys in there seem more interested in interacting with the dancers. This meant I could drink in peace and I was doing ok until a dancer came and sat next to me.

    “Here we go.” I thought.

She hadn’t been in the previous night and she starts chatting about different things and how she ended up in Vegas. She must have sat there about 20 minutes without any hard sell. She then went up and danced. She came back, and we chatted some more and after a while I thought, when in Rome or Vegas in this case.

I think a few of the strip casinos will process an ITIN for certain Nationals and that includes UK residents if you get a handpay, stands for Individual Taxpayer Identification Number to avoid paying taxes.

Thanks I do like to get around and walk all over the Strip. The walk to the south Strip was the longest, but it was worth it.

I walked past the book shop where Rebecca off Pawn Stars works. I have passed this place before and have a look in but never seen her. I assume she hides in the back.

I hit the Rockbar for a drink, they used to have the car pool table made by Counts Kustoms. It was in the smaller bar, but they have moved it in to the bigger bar. I finish my drink and walk back down the Strip and eventually end up in O’Shea’s for a few beers. I head back to Tuscany and get changed and get Lyft Downtown. I get dropped at El Cortez and I have a small $20 play on VP while having a beer. I then have a walk along Fremont and end up in Golden Gate for a few beers and a chat with the staff.

After that I have a final walk along Fremont this trip. I get back to Cortez and get a Lyft back to Tuscany. The driver is a nice guy and loves his 70’s, 80’s, rock music. He drops me at Tuscany and I walk over to Club Platinum and spend the rest of the evening in there having a few beers and chatting to one of the dancers while avoiding scary Lady Gaga.

Another later start, but I’m changed and out quickly down in to Tuscany casino for one last crack at the VP. I take my seat at the bar and put $100 and start my gambling. I don’t do too bad at first and by the end I cash out $30 down, which when you think about it is not bad for the week. Although a couple of near misses there as well.

After Tuscany I walk up to the Linq Promenade and in to the Tilted Kilt. I get a drink and a menu. I stay there for over an hour before moving on to O’Shea’s. I have a few drinks in there and then move on to the party pit bar that has the dancers on. The only reason I went here is that one of the girls in the Golden Gate dances here and she asked me to go see her if I was in there.. She is on when I get there so, I get a beer and sit at the bar. She is finishing for her break, so we have a brief chat before she goes. I then have a walk back on to Flamingo and I end up in Club Platinum. It’s early but, I have a flight in the morning so it’s going to be an early night.

It is the busiest I have seen it all week and I just manage to get a seat at the bar. The dancer I have been chatting to the last couple of night is chatting to some guy. She comes over though and says hi. I have people either side of me, so I feel a little safer from scary Lady Gaga coming to haunt me. I stay a bit longer than planned as I get talking to the dancer I have been chatting to. Apparently, the guy she was chatting to kept saying he wanted a dance, then when it come to it he backed down. So, she told him where to go, we chatted for a while before I had to go back to Tuscany. I got back to Tuscany and had my last drinks before bed.

    Saturday 3rd March

My alarm goes off and I eventually get up, cursing myself for not going to bed earlier. I bet a lot of us do that though. I pack my final things and head down to checkout. I get Lyft to the Airport and check in is quick. Security is not too bad and I’m soon in the departure lounge. My flight to Atlanta is on time and I have an aisle seat on the exit row. They have live TV, so I watch episodes of Fast n Loud. They are repeats but a couple of them are the ones where they rebuild the Ferrari.

I’m soon in Atlanta and my flight back to Manchester is on time, I’m sat next to a guy who is certainly a bit chattier than the one I was sat next to on the way out. I watch Kingsman Golden Circle, despite never watching the first one. The flight is about 30 minutes late landing because of winds in the Atlantic.
So that’s the first trip of my 10-year anniversary celebration. Not too long though to wait for trip number two. I’m back on the 26th April, it was a solo trip but a mate of mine who I work with will making the trip as well. He is a proper Vegas Veteran and I have been over with him a couple of times with our work trips.

One thing I forgot to put in was that I went in to the Westin one night. I forgot to put it on my notes that I use to remember what I did when. The Westin has seemed to have gone a bit more upmarket. It does seem a nice place and I only really went in to see what it was like. Last time I went in here it was all construction walls.

After all your trips I'm going to check out Tuscany Suites. I play a lot of vp and some slots. How good are they about comps?
