    This is great advice!

Is the single deck at ElCo dealt pitch or shoe style?

I have played lots of blackjack at home (UK), but was still quite intimidated when I made my first (and sadly only) trip to Vegas. I found it best to play early morning $5/$10 tables when it was quiet, but after a while I was very comfortable to play the $25 DD tables on Friday/Saturday night and didn't get any grief. If you strike up some camaradary with the dealer then it can help, so much that they will make moves for you, i.e. on my last night I was just playing against the dealer and I got 8/8 and he moved the 8s apart indicating that I should split them, which I would have done anyway, but this it always nice to have the dealers on your side.

So much good info in this thread for a newbie. I may be repeating some of it, but here is my $.02 for craps.

Stand either next to the guy with the stick or next to the dealer. Tell them you are new. They will take care of you as much as they can if the table doesn't get busy.
The rest of it will take care of itself.

I do see you seem tentative about throwing the dice. You are allowed to pass the dice (unless you are the only one at the table, and believe me, that will be an odd occurrence). When they put the dice in front of you just say "Pass". I do this, but only because I am the frigging doom switch at throwing the dice. WORST. SHOOTER. EVER.

I keep waiting for the heavy duty dark side whales to find me and bankroll me for their sessions just so I can make them millions.

It's a shoe... I don't like that game, though (the single-deck)... for several reasons... but I love their 2-deck game! Very easy to keep track of the cards as they come out... I almost always win there... not a lot, but some.

FYI, I was browsing a bunch of LV casino websites today for a project and saw several advertising gaming lessons. Most were the lower-roller casinos like Excalibur, Circus Circus, Tropicana, etc, and many downtown. Most games seemed to be at 10-11am or around 2pm. Check out some of the websites near where you are staying and you might find one.

Excellent. I went to a few websites but couldn't find the times. I will take a look as it gets closer and see where i can go during their downtime.

Do you have a local casino with a real blackjack table? We only have the electronic blackjack in London, I wish they had real tables.

My first time playing craps I took the class at the Golden Nugget. Basic strategy and it made me feel way more comfortable. But to this day I still feel rusty when I first walk up to the table and always consider passing on throwing the dice the first time it comes around.
I tried to pass on the roll over Christmas this year but my husband (always) says, "just roll! What if you have the hot hand?"
So I did.....and I hit 50 numbers! (The Fremont downtown has a counter on the table). Of course I never came close to that again for the rest of the trip but "Just Roll!" You never know!
