I can't believe it.. I only have 3 more hours and I will be on my way. Too bad that my wife and i are going to be the last ones to show up.. Hell Korkedbatz and his girlfriend will be way ahead of us on the party meter. He called me from the airport an hour ago and gave me a heads up on what a pain in the butt it was to check their bags.. Some crap about a their bag being too heavy. He told me that the bag was only like half fool and to ship it like it was it was going to cost them and extra $25.. Now i am all worried because my wife and I have all our clothes in one bag. It is by no means over packed, but what the hell am i going to do when we get to the airport and they tell us our bag is too heavy. Batz and woman at least had another bag they just split the clothes up. I guess I will be getting hosed for $25.. man what a crock.. Did any one else have this trouble on their recent trips.. Hell they did not care how much our bags weighed when we went to jamaica.. Oh well no stopping me now..

Good luck! I hope there is no hastle with your bag. We expect a full trip report when you get back.

Well, how much is over full? My bag weighed 49 pounds and it went through fine.....

went to vegas about a month ago(it seems like 10 years) my bag weight was 56lbs(g/f and i packed together) luckily the lady checking us in was an idiot so i opened it up took out a few things, threw them in my carry on(no way was it close to 6 pounds of stuff), and then threw the bag back on the scale but left one of the wheels hang off the side so the full weight wasnt on the scale, the lady said "that did the trick 28lbs" what a dope...laughed the whole way through security check....good luck

With regard to checked baggage, you really should check your airline's web site for limitations, restrictions, etc.

I believe all airlines except Southwest have a limit of 50 lbs per piece and they will charge you something like $25 per piece if the weight is between 50 and 70 lbs. Between 71 and 100 lbs, you'll be charged $50 per piece. And nothing over 100 lbs will be checked.

On Southwest, they still allow you up to 70 lbs per piece of checked baggage. Bags between 71 and 100 lbs and oversized items will be accepted for a charge.

A couple times in the last year or so, I was flying to NY for extended business trips and each time I had a bag or two that was a few lbs over weight (~53 lbs or so). I was doing curbside checkin. Each time the guy weighing the bag pointed out the excess weight but let me slide. I was thankful and gave them a $5 tip.

I would much rather take two bags knowing each peice in under 50 lbs than take a chance with one bag that is borderline right around 50 lbs.

I would much rather pack 2 bags instead of having one heavy one. I like seeing those heavy ones on the baggage carousel almost to the point of exploding, and sometimes they have.

I've got to wonder, though, why pack so many damn clothes, etc in one bag, when you can pack 2 and bring home souveniers and other things (like a midget hooker!)

It was the reading material in mine that made it so heavy :( Hubby & I both have 26" samsonite rolling bags, so the weight isn't usually an issue. I go crazy if I run out of things to read, which never happens to me in Vegas, though I haven't realized that yet when I'm packing. My goal is to improve by my next trip and "lower my weight" :D
