I hope I didn't offend you with the stick poking emoticon...first time I used it, and I felt BAD ASS!

I was sort of hoping that your reply was going to involve the stick poking emoticon again.

When a shooter launches the dice off the table more than once, I'll pull my plcae bets down. If I notice someone keeps dropping last minute bets, I'll ask the dealers to have them stop doing that, as the dice always ends up hitting their hands and I seven out (happened 6 times at the Wynn last trip). When I buy in, I place the minimum amount I want to walk away with on the row closest to me. Some people think counting chips at the table is a no-no, but I have to make sure I keep track of how much I'm going to lose before I stop, lest I end up footing the water bill for a Bellagio fountain show. :grrr:

I wonder about this. For you is this s superstition or a money management thing?

If it is money management...why not just buy in with the amount you are willing to lose? (I ask because I could see myself doing as you do - but really can't rationalize why.).

I met up with Pass Line Man at 4Q one night last year and now I can't stop saying "Monkey!" when I need a face card. Not sure if that's a superstition or not...

OK, this goes counter to everything most people on here say that they do on slots. My husband and I play side by side. We sit down and each put in $100, if we hit a streak where one of us is just not winning, that person has to put another $100 into the machine to "appease the gambling gods." More often than not, one of us is doing really well while the other is not so much, so it basically evens out and we get all the entertainment of playing together.

Mine is that I have to have a good time. I only win when I'm having a good time. I'll do a little dance or sing a little song if I have to. I also have to have exactly what I will do with the money in my mind. Sometimes that's an item I have picked out at a gift shop. Sometimes that's a bill coming up that I want to pay off.

I don't know what the stick poking emote means.

Sometimes I'll yell at my vp game like I'm at a horse race. Come on Ace!

Craps: Three craps in a row and I walk

Blackjack: Three losses in a row, I sit 1 or 2 hands... or walk

Video Poker: Talk to the machine when I have 3 of a kind or 2 pair... always saying "come on... give me a X" where X is the card for a 4 of a kind or the card needed for a full house.

I think I heard the correct story of where this comes from. The call of 'Monkey' is especially popular at the Baccarat table, a favorite of Asian gamblers. The word for 'monarchy' in Chinese sounds a lot like 'monkey', so they are calling for a monarch card (or face card).

This too. If things don't start well, they likely won't end well either.

That's funny, I do the same thing. Where as I have no delusions that its anything more than being silly I will change up to pulling the handle if there is one and I wasn't doing so well pushing the button. I'll also change between just pushing "max bet" or pushing the one credit button the max number of times in order to change things up.

Funnies thing I've seen in this area: My wife and I used to stay at MGM Grand all the time and there was a lion machine a few years back near one of the side entrances to the elevator lobby (don't think it was the progressive) and we saw this old lady playing it with her rosary in hand. Before each spin she would tap the screen a few times with the rosary and then rub it on the button before hitting it. This cracked me up on so many levels especially since it really seemed kinda blasphemous to me but from then on my wife and I would call that machine the "blessed" or the "holy" machine.

If someone close starts bothering me (key slapper, wants to play my game with me, seems to be building a nest, etc.) I leave. I start losing when I get distracted. Leave me to my own little world please!

I do that when playing the Wizard of Oz slots, not for any superstitious reasons, just for fun. Freaks slot players out somethin fierce, but every now and then it'll get a grin from someone more well versed in the table talk. :D

First time I heard that term, it was from an Asian woman yelling it at the blackjack table. I now always imagine the term being said with that accent.
