Story is about casino projects that did not happen.

When I first opened the link, there was a hotel next to Luxor that I could not figure out. Turns out that was never built.

Thanks for posting that! It's also interesting to think about which casinos that we have today that would not be here if these plans had gone ahead, due to the land being taken or other reasons. The article says the spot Excalibur is on now would have been occupied by Xanadu.

Before the market tanked (was it CP? Harrahs?) they were planning on making a super hotel that went over flamingo blvd from bally's to Bills. I had the impression that they were going to make a super block from Ballys all the way to the flamingo. Can't find that article anymore though. But the market killed that (also killed the 'dust plans). Unfortunate that the 'dust already did the implosion before the market killed it all.

Xanadu sounds like the name of a hotel for those who have reached OT VIII and are in need a break from being aboard the Freewinds.

They never released a formal plan so a lot of what we knew about it came from the rumor mill.

Desert Kingdom has the Disney type look.
The Titanic looks ridiculous !.....probably, would have fitted right in, though ?

Nothing inspires a trip full of good luck like the Titanic.

Perhaps the actual theme was not the ocean liner, but the box office receipts from the movie?

Actually they posted something in our local paper about the plan. It showed a super high rise hotel that went across from Bally's across flamingo blvd to where Bills was. I guess Harrahs was supposed to buy the Bills property but that all changed with the downturn in the economy.

I can't find that article anymore. Too bad, I should have kept the picture of how it was supposed to look.
