    My Trip Report

So late spring, after my February trip and before my Memorial Day trip, I got a postcard from Excalibur offering up to 4 free nights! I had to read it twice to believe it. I'm such a low roller! But then I remembered my February trip, where I actually put most of my play in at Excalibur. It wasn't on purpose, they had spots open at the bar for VP and had an actual IPA on draft. They had cheap bubble craps. And of course, my Dragons.
I'm feeling super decadent--this is my third trip this year! I'm lucky to have a husband who understands that sometimes, I just need to go somewhere for a few days where no one will call me "Mom", and I can relax. I have enough vacation built up at work, too, yay!

So, first time staying at Excalibur. I have never eaten at any of the restaurants there and probably won't on this trip. None of them really appeal to me. Maybe Camelot steak house? We have a Buca de Bepo in my town; the place where they're mean to you doesn't appeal (Dick's?), and ... I'm not actually sure what else they have! It's close enough to NYNY to hit 9FI (my fave happy hour); and close enough to Park for my fave breakfast at LaVazza coffee at Eataly.

I plan to try a couple of new places. Bouchon sounds amazing for breakfast, based on some recent trip reports, and the prices look reasonable for what you get. I'd like to get back to MAG for dinner--haven't been there my last couple of trips and I love sitting outside and watching the fountains. Loved Hattie B's last time; hoping to try China Poblano this time.

I went downtown last trip for the first time in over ten years. It was more fun than I had expected, so I'll definitely be doing a downtown day. I plan to play coin VP, and craps, probably at the Cal. I have the ACG coupons for the Cal packed in my bag. I didn't get to the D -- would like to check it out.

As for shows, I picked Potted Potter for Sunday. Got a good deal on a Groupon ticket. And, I have a coupon from my last trip for $30 off Absinthe, so I'll see that either Monday or Tuesday, depending on availibility.
Gaming wise, I liked doing envelopes last time so I'll do that again. I'm going to further separate each day into slots, VP and tables (really just craps, unless I find $10 Pai Gow). I'm really looking forward to playing a lot of craps, and trying some new slot machines.

In between, hoping to find live music, good cocktails and draft craft beers, and good old people watching.
As you can see, all set with my Drip Drop as suggested by @Vegasworm and my bankroll. Check out those old school hundys! Since I was down from my last trip, I wanted to beef it up a bit. Remembered I had some cash stashed. Guess I'd stashed it for a while!

Oh, so jelly! I am you, a low roller who never gets 4 nights anywhere! Excal gave me 4 nights including weekends! You will have a ball!

Brief notes from my trip there last February :

Camelot is a solid place to eat. I was too “full” when I went (aka drunk) but i had the seared scallops and they were awesome. I wanted to try buca but i went at odd times and couldn’t get attention as a solo so i skipped it. The Krispy Kreme is open 24 hours, thank heaven!

Beds are great there. Water is possibly not meant for consumption, however, at least in the resort tower. Maybe bring your own if you drink a lot of it. Slightly unpleasant side effects

If you can rally for Border Grill at Mandalay Bay on the weekend, do so! Excellent investment!

$10 non face up pai gow poker at the Trop, excellent drink service too.

B1g1 free milkshake at Haagen daaz in nyny is a great deal if you have the acg coupon. Also quick access to the strip through the Hershey store stairs. Toms Urban has a peach martini to die for, but alas, not served in a martini glass.

I have re- read my above thoughts and it would appear that I am a bum. But, a vegas bum! Leave no money on the table!! Have a great time!

Have fun! Excalibur holds a special place in my heart because it’s the first place a VP hit paid for my trip (Aces with a kicker and bunch of other smaller hits staying in a newly renovated room at the time and a super low roller budget). I like the pool. I like the cheap gambling. And I like the location on the corner. Wasn’t a fan of the buffet or Camelot but otherwise it’s hard to complain for the value and really hard to not have fun. Do it!

Have a fantastic trip!!! We used to stay at Excalibur quite a bit, but it's been a few years. I'll be interested to see what you think of it, what kind of room you get etc!

Just a quick downtown "tip"... from the Excal, just cross catercorner to the MGM... there's a bus stop on Tropicana...wait for the WAX bus, pay the $2 & you'll be downtown before you know it... right at the Walgreens next to 'the D'. (4th @ Carson).
When you're ready to head back, go to the side of Binion's, on Casino Center Blvd... catch the WAX there & get off at the Trop.

OK, that note about water? Mildly terriflying! I may have to stick to beer, like in the old days of yore! And if you're a bum, you're my kind of bum!:)

Ah, this is a good tip. I was prepping for that pricey Lyft ride; $2 each way is a lot better. And probably a more scenic ride. Love the use of "catercorner". We say "kittycorner" here in our neck of the woods.

Didn't have a chance to add in the transportation notes earlier (had to run to a 50th birthday party for the friend who first took me to Vegas, for my 40th!)

Taking my now-usual Spirit air. So far so good with the super budget. I am happy with one personal item--I prefer to pack very lightly. The fares are just so darn cheap, it makes it easy to slip a trip into the budget. I did not spring for a seat and let them pick. It's a short flight, and I've got several episodes of my fave podcasts to listen to. 360 Vegas is pretty fun--love how they have the slot machine sounds going on under their chat about Vegas. And of course, You Can Bet on That. I've been saving the last two episodes for my travel time.

I'm still up for a meet up, but nothing is set up yet for my dates. We'll see. Might spot a green wristband somewhere along the way...

I love doing a live TR as it helps me remember all the details. The next updates will be from my phone, so probably more pictures and less text.

Well, time to get ready for church and then the Sweetie is driving me to the airport. Saying good bye to my little son is tough, but he'll get a much more relaxed mama back in a few days. My teens are happy with a souvenir--lately I've brought little art gifts from the Cosmo Art-o-Matics. My younger teen loves the earrings I got from it!

Well, I can't say 100% it was the water, just had some low key intestinal trouble, very mild and nothing that will slow you down, but bizarre, my brother had it as well, and the only thing we had in common was water drinking so I concluded that. It tasted fine! But yes, stick to beer, much safer lol.

Actually, I believe the WAX stops directly in front of the NYNY

WAX from airport to Downtown has a newer stop at MGM and the original stop at NYNY. Returning from Downtown stops midway between Trop and Hooters.

I agree with you on Vegas water. We used bottled water for brushing teeth only using Vegas water for taking showers. Looking forward to following along on your trip.

I remembered Spirit gave me a free two month trial of CLEAR when I bought my ticket. So I signed up at the airport and skipped the TSA line!

I certainly agree with the WAX to Downtown being the easiest, fastest, cheapest way to get from Excalibur to Downtown and back.

When you exit Excalibur, take the sky crossover to NYNY. The bus stops on the south side of NYNY. When you are waiting for the bus, you will be facing the north wall of Excalibur, with Tropicana Street between the two casinos. That stop also serves the 201 bus. It comes every 15 minutes, so don’t hop on that one by mistake.

There are two ways to find out when the next bus will arrive :
    1. Go to RTCSNV.com and look up the WAX route and schedule.
    2. If you have an iPhone, click on the map, set it for transit, click on the little bus symbol
on the south side of NYNY, and then click on WAX. It will tell you how many minutes until the next bus .

When you are Downtown & ready to return home, stand on the corner of Binion’s where they have a bar with saddles for chairs. It’s the closest area to the craps tables. They have a large schedule board, which quite accurately tells you what time the bus will load on it’s way toward the airport. That’s a safe corner, as there is a lot of pedestrian traffic 24/7.

As previously stated, you exact at the WAX stop next to the Tropicana. Riding along Las Vegas Blvd on I-15 at night is a fun and safe way to see the Vegas lights.

Each trip will cost $2 cash. I always carry around single dollar bills for tips anyway, so that has never been an issue for me. By the way, there is no need to tip.

Be glad to answer any questions.
