I have lost track of how many trips we have stayed at our home casino, the CAL. This August my group had to book our trip one week earlier than usual. I should have known better when booking that we will be in Vegas over that first Friday of the month with all the music and craziness on FSS.

I went to make reservations and the CAL is sold out August 4, 5 and 6. I was really looking forward to staying in a newly renovated CAL room. Luckily, MSS had rooms and they accepted all of our comps. My son that joins us every year was on top of things and booked his rooms at the same time as booking his air. I always email our elderly Hawaiian friend, Henry when we have booked and he joins us yearly. Due to his emerald status, he was able to secure a room.

It won't be the end of the world as we typically split our play between the Boyd properties. Just a few more steps for my Fitbit to add up.

MSS is like home for us. Very comfortable and so easy to get to the casino and the Cal. We like MSS a lot. But, we haven't spent a night at the Cal. I hope you enjoy your stay at MSS, and look forward to your feedback.

I stayed at the MSS last week and loved it. Best buffet in downtown Vegas at your doorstep. The room was very nice. Great casino and only steps away from the Cal. You will enjoy it!

Fiancee and I bounce between 4Q, Cal, MSS, and Fremont. Can't pick a favorite...well only stayed at Fremont once and had bad customer service. But we always hit MSS for the brew pub every time we're there.

I have not stayed at the Cal, but certainly enjoy my stays at MSS. I find the hallway noise MUCH less than say at the Golden Nugget, and customer service has always been outstanding!

As a decades long stayer at MSS, I agree with this. But, then we got a mini-suite at Cal in the remodeled West Tower.
We have stayed there the last 2 trips in Feb and April. I think it was because of a video eaglejohn posted on VMB showing off the new rooms with no tub, that we decided to try it.

Anyway northerngirl the rooms are just fine at MSS and even though we now stay at Cal, we still do most of our gambling and dining at MSS.

PS, our last stay at MSS was Dec 2016 and the suites still had tubs.

Thanks...I knew I had read something re which rooms are farthest from the tracks.

Our trips are typically nine nights. The first three nights we are staying at The Grand and the remaining six at MSS. The sisters are actually excited to try out MSS. Bouncing between the CAL, MSS, and Fremont St,, the distance to run up to the room seems more of an inconvenience at MSS. However, it is Vegas and still will be great!

the distances will be less than any strip property and less than a Carson room at GN. From Cal just cross over and go through Binions and you are at FSE

I don't think you can go wrong with MSS. I rather stay at the Cal because at MSS you have to walk all the way to the back of the hotel to catch the elevators. Not a big problem but sometimes it can seem like a long walk.

I also like the Cal West tower rooms because the bathroom is fully enclosed and contains the shower, vanity and toilet. At MSS the bathroom just contains the tub/shower and toilet. The vanity area is outside of the bathroom and can get noisy to others in the room if you are running the hair dryer. But some people like the separate "room" because one person can be taking a shower and the other person can be getting ready using the vanity area.

As others have mentioned, ask for the south facing rooms. You don't want a north facing room as you can see the freeway and the freeway noise can get a little loud. Also if you ask for the lower number rooms they are closer to main st and the train noise may not be as bad.

With the increased prices for the Cal west tower I will save my money and stay at MSS more often since I don't like the east tower rooms at the Cal as much.

I would highly recommend you put in your room request after you make your reservation (south facing room, low number room) as the rooms may not be available if you request it when you check in.

Makikiboy....agree with you on all points. MSS will be fine...I just like the close proximity when staying at the CAL to make a quick trip up to the room.

Thanks for the advice on room request in advance. Being that we will be downtown three nights before checking into MSS, I also plan on talking to the registration in person prior. So many requests--south facing room, low number, adjoining, etc.
