    My Trip Report

24 hours to a low-cost, two day low-gambling trip to Las Vegas for the Wynn Masterclass on Friday. The topic of the Masterclass is brunch.

My low cost, SWA tickets were paid on points. I go a "decent" car rental rate of $111.39 for two days.

I am staying on an NGO (No Gambling Obligation) two night stay at Aria via Playstudios (myVegas, myKonami). Resort fees will be paid via saved up mLife Express Comps.

Dining will be at STK (Cosmopolitan), using the Cosmo gift cards that I purchased to inch my way to Gold (still just a $60 meal away from Gold, but that may wait until late June.)

Two of the other meals will be Playstudios comps, one at the Burger Bar at Aria (probably Thursday lunch), and the second a 3-for-$30 at the Aria Patisserie (probably Friday Breakfast).

No PGFs (changed the descriptor to Platonic as opposed to Fantasy, because that's really who they are) available this trip, so Friday dinner will be solo, maybe at Magnolia's (QQQQ, got about $250 in comps there), Silverton (if they put up the comps before trip time), or maybe Jerry's Nugget for Prime Rib.

Will post plenty of details about the Playstudios Aria food comps, and plenty of food porn from STK. BFF and I plan to have the seafood tower ($57 per person), and the Wagyu flat iron, of course subject to change.

Although I'm really trying to "wind down" the gambling, I still have:

2000+ points to make Platinum at Wynn
300+ Points to make Gold at Cosmopolitan (A $60 spend out of pocket)

I'm torn as to where to spend my gambling $$

Cosmopolitan has Crazy Rich Asians and I'm very close to Gold level, and I want to use my Sterling night before it goes away.

I am somewhat close to making Platinum level at Wynn and I might be getting value out of them, as the cost of the Masterclass at Red level is $300, but free (one of two pairs of Masterclasses). The question is how much will the 2000 points cost me. Wynn is notoriously tight for me.

I could spend some time playing at Aria, but on a Friday night, who knows how "crazy" it would be. I've also learned my lesson about playing at mLife while staying on a Playstudios comp. The short version is "avoid it".

Since this is one of the first Friday nights after Las Vegas has opened up, I'd be interested to see how crazy it will be.

My primary choices at this time for 2022, my "last" year of gambling are:

    Cosmopolitan
    Wynncore
    Venetian/Palazzo

    My secondary choices are:

    mLife
    the D
    Four Queens

    Wish me luck!!!

Best of luck, @DaiLun! Sounds like you have most of the 2 days planned. And what's this, "my last year of gambling" thing?

After 45+ years of it, I am considering myself "done" with "high" (for my income) stakes gambling. No more $4000 budget for a 3 day trip, no more Las Vegas 8 times a year. If I go to Las Vegas or any casino destination, I want it to be on "my terms" and want to be free to gamble as much or as little as I want. No more gambling to "make my comp/level" or continue to "keep" my comp/level. I have been doing pretty much that for the last few trips and it hasn't been difficult, and almost refreshing.

Besides, after I retire, I will no longer be able to "write off" W2-Gs and my income will be significantly reduced.

Personaly, I would not take it too seriously.
    Not that I don't believe @DaiLun.
Maybe he will reduce from 20 trips per year to 19 trips per year to Vegas ;).

Enjoy this trip! Personally I would spend the time & money at Cosmo this trip since it's right next to Aria, and the balconies make it worth it especially if they're comp'd, but that's just me.

Well, this was probably mostly (perhaps) my fault

I stayed on a Playstudios comp and played enough to warrant "backend comps". I like to ensure that everything is "taken care of" the night before to allow a seamless check-out (i.e. I can check out from the TV in the room and avoid the trip to the front desk)

In this case, I paid with mLife gift cards. The host later said that I could be "backend comped" for resort fees and the meal at Gallagher's. Please note that if you pay with an mLife gift card, there is NO WAY to issue a credit or refund. So, I couldn't "take" the host's comp and had to "defer" it to a later trip.

The host was also "confused" whill looking at my record and seeing it was a Playstudios comp, and didn't exactly know how to figure the "comp cost" in, even though it should be "zero" because this comp was previously paid for.

In reading through this, I made several mistakes, for example:

1)I was playing on an NGO comp
    2) I hadn't envisioned playing enough to warrant backend comps
3)It was my first meeting with this host, and I hadn't anticipated her generosity.

This time, since it's an NGO comp, I will reserve my play for other casinos.

Well, evening time which means time to catch up my TR.

The airports were back to normal crowds.

SWA was 30 minutes late, arriving at Gate B25. The moving walkways are NOT operating. Boo Hiss!!!!

NOTE: If you are boarding at the B Gate, the TSA line is Gate #10, the far left. No passengers in line. DO NOT get in line 9. That is the "manual scan" line.

It took 5 busses to get me to car rental, but that went By rather quickly. I was renting Enterprise this time, and rather than stand in the regular line, I snuck into the Business Class line.

I got a Hyundai Elantra to drive.

Got to Aria and went straight to my room. I was on the 4th floor. Not much of a view, but I'm not really here to sightsee. I'm here to get a break from the sleep schedule brought on by my son's job (and lack of a driver's license), so I take breaks when I can.

Hadn't eaten anything since breakfast, so I went to the Aria Patisserie and bought a Muffaletta to take the edge off before dinner. Minus the military discount, it came to just under $20. Another 500 points after I turn in the receipt at the mLife desk.

I cancelled the Burger comp at Aria, I think that I will eat dinner tomorrow night at Jaleo, even solo.
Tried to take a nap. Not really in the mood to gamble, but I couldn't sleep, so I decided to go over the Cosmo before dinner and make gold level.
So, this is how it went, made $150 from the Mr. World bonus on American Gods, took it over to Cosmopolitan and made Gold, helped out by a random bonus playing Buffalo Chief at $5.00 a pull. Yeah, I know that the max bet is $10.00 a pull, but I'm being very careful to stay away from the $10.00 a pull machines unless I'm up.

Made Gold level, and then Crazy Rich Asians got richer from me. I made back a couple of hundred, but was still down about $600. Time for dinner.
Walked up to STK and there was a line of people waiting to be seated. BFF was there, and he started telling me stories about Ellis Island, where he and an acquaintance of mine are staying the second two days of their trip.
He gave me two "tokens" from the Sahara , and I thanked him.
    WES_Herb_Sahara coin.jpg
    [IMG]
We were finally seated at STK. High chairs, but I was comfortable in them.
    They started with bread
    STK_bread.jpg
    [IMG]
We ordered the Seafood Platter for two
    [IMG]

Look at this piece of Crab!!!! I kinda feel guilty that I grabbed it off the platter. Apologies to BFF.
    STK_crab_oysters.jpg
We also ordered American Wagyu, cooked rare. An excellent piece of meat, and they sliced it to share!!
    STK_AmericanWagyu.jpg
Asparagus to round out the meal
    STK_asparagus.jpg
The bill, with a large San Pellegrino, came to just under $200. Killed a gift card and gave a cash tip. $2000 in gift cards to go.
Too full for dessert, we parted and I will meet him at the brunch Masterclass, along with @Flowers and @Chrisbeans .
Here are some pictures of artwork which I found interesting

OK, a little digression here. The Four Queens has announced that they will be having a Silver Strike tournament June 25, 26 and 27. Here is the flyer describing the tournament.

    http://www.silverstrikers.com/Doc/Archives/Events/Year2021/TournamentSummer2021/Tournament-Summer-Four-Queens-Flyer-2021.pdf

This tournament's theme will be "pin ups from WWII Airplanes
    [IMG]
There will probably be a limit of 150 people, so if you're interested, sign up quickly or be at risk of getting "shut out" I entered myself and bought a no room required entry In case one of my friends dilly-dallied and missed out. BFF will take it if no one else does.

If you're not interested in the tournament bat are interested in Silver Strikes, there will be a trading session the Saturday of the Tournament (June 26th, on the second floor of the Four Queens).

You can buy (or trade) Silver Strikes, red caps, blue caps, yellow caps, and $200 and $300 Silver Strikes.

Since the entry only includes 3 nights at the Four Queens, I used my Sterling comp night to stay at Cosmopolitan.

OK, back to the story. I wanted to have some "trade bait" for the trading session. I complete sets of 4 Plaza clads, which I will be offering for 5 Four Queens clads. If I include the blue cap, I will trade it for 8 QQQQ clads. Although I have enough for $300 strikes for the rest of the year, it doesn't hurt to have a little "buffer".

So, at the end of $250, I came up with 16 clear caps and 2 blue caps, which comes out about even. I will now have several sets of Plaza Strikes to trade, and the remainder I will cash in for $10 each.
    Plaza_SilverStrikes.jpg
Right now I'm holding 40 loose and 2 sets of 5.

So, after that, I came back to Aria after making a stop at Walgreen's to pick up some snacks and drinks.

Stopped by American Gods again (I will take a picture so everyone knows what machine I'm talking about), down $300, I got the Mr. World random bonus again, and cashed out for $250.
So, I made Gold level at Cosmo, picked up enough clad strikes for trade bait, and tomorrow will be the Masterclass.
    Cosmo_Goldcard.jpg
10:30PM, time for bed. See you tomorrow.

OK, woke up at 7AM, called BFF and we had breakfast at Jerry's Nugget

One the way out of Aria, I noticed that people have been "donating" to the "God of Din Tai Fung".
    upload_2021-5-7_9-56-42.png
    upload_2021-5-7_9-57-0.png
BFF had his usual traditional breakfast
    upload_2021-5-7_9-57-22.png
I had the Spicy Skillet, one slice of toast, and coffee
    upload_2021-5-7_9-58-2.png
For some reason, my food comp wasn't showing up on my card, so I was charged the full price less the military discount $11 and change, however, I "made" breakfast by playing on a FOB machine
    upload_2021-5-7_9-59-11.png
I think that's an OK offset.
Coming back to Aria, I played the American Gods machine, my "ATM" for the trip.
    upload_2021-5-7_10-1-14.png
    upload_2021-5-7_10-2-30.png
    upload_2021-5-7_10-2-5.png
This trip, in three tries, I have made about $100, or $150 every time I sit down to it. This time I played the bonus game, of Mr. World and ended up making another $100.
    upload_2021-5-7_10-3-3.png
    upload_2021-5-7_10-3-33.png
In for $200, out for $300, so with breakfast paid for, and slowly clawing my way back from yesterday's "spend", I find myself "down" about $300-$400, which for me, is a "win".

However, I'm still going to put some play in at Wynn this morning, and we'll see how that goes.

For now, I'm just gonna kick back. Gonna go over to the Wynn in about an hour.

Brunch is taken care of at the Masterclass, and I'm scheduled to go to Jaleo for dinner tonight.

For early breakfast tomorrow, I have 3 for $30 at Aria Patisserie, courtesy of myVegas. It's pick a drink, entree, and dessert for $30. So the key is to pick the most expensive things that you can eat, and just pay $30. I may skip on this, since it is still a $30 spend, and I have redeemed it, so no points back, but it was "only" 5000 LPs. I cancelled the free Burger, Fries, and drink, and perhaps I should've kept that one.

Anyway, I will be taking detailed notes and as many pictures as possible at the Masterclass. After the class I may go for a drive. Laughlin is out, even though Iris (a PFGF, now changed to E (E for Ex) FGF) is working. Mesquite or Parumph are possible destinations, since my reservations for dinner aren't until 6:45. Parumph is also low on the list, since The Chicken Ranch is open, but I decided to buy my pins online.
Many of the women I meet "love" them, not knowing where the pins come from or what they represent.

OK, so I drove down to the Masterclass early in order to change into long pants and a collared shirt. I was still a little early, so I sat down to what would consider as the least expensive MAX bet machine, Valkyrie.

It starts at $0.40 and the max bet is 4X, or $1.60. Enough to play slowly and still accumulate a small number of points. I ended up making a few points, and only lost $100 in the process.

I met BFF at the Down Parasol, the bar that "joins" Lakeside and SW Steakhouse.

Along came @Chrisbeans , who came to introduce herself, and we waited for @Flowers . . . the event started and still no @Flowers . Gee, I hope she's OK, @Chrisbeans said . . "She's probably receiving a hand pay", I said.

Eventually, she showed up and was seated away from us.

The presenter was Robert Bruce,(no, not that Robert Bruce) the executive Chef at Tableau (Wynn).

Boy, I admire this guy's passion. He cooks all day, and when he goes home, he hosts brunches on the weekend. If I have to fix computers on the weekend, it's more of a chore or obligation. He's hosting a brunch at his house this weekend.

He discussed things about presentation, and spending the extra time to make things look enough to "WOW" your guests.

We were served 3 cocktails, none of which I liked. Here are two of them
    upload_2021-5-7_15-59-2.png upload_2021-5-7_15-59-13.png

The first dish in the brunch was "Red Deliciousness", which had beets in it, which didn't really work for me.
    upload_2021-5-7_15-59-33.png
The second dish was Home made granola with a yogurt parfait.
    upload_2021-5-7_15-59-59.png
Now mind you, I have a sweet tooth, so neither of the first two dishes "WOWed" me, but they did look good.
The third dish that he prepares was a fritatta, and this dish tasted very good.
    upload_2021-5-7_16-0-19.png
The final dish was French Toast with stewed cherries and chocolate mousse. He went to great lengths to explain how to make a chocolate mousse, and that It had to be prepared a day in advance if it were to be done correctly.
    upload_2021-5-7_16-0-31.png
After the presentation was over, we invited @Flowers over to our table, where we ate all of the dishes.
Coming back to Aria, I resisted going to my ATM (American Gods) and instead sat down to an FOB machine (Aruze), and made back the $100 I spent at Wynn.
    upload_2021-5-7_16-1-25.png
    upload_2021-5-7_16-1-47.png
I got the bonus, 25 spins at 2X, and a retrigger of 10 spins, so 35 spins total
    upload_2021-5-7_16-2-35.png
Dinner tonight will be at Jaleo. Since @Chrisbeans "spilled the beans", I'm having dinner with her.

OK, so dinner with @Chrisbeans was delightful. If she wasn't already happily married, I'd be glad to add her to the FGF list.

I picked her up at Palazzo, and we drove to Cosmopolitan. First, I took her to the Talon Club, the High limit casino on the second floor we walked around the casino and I noticed that the limits had dropped, and the Blackjack table that was $500 minimum yesterday was "only" $300 minimum today.

We then went to Jaleo. Here's the menu.

    https://assets.ctfassets.net/sahy2rpqbnsp/V05kANw16LJF4BpsO4dWv/3c514ad8ac909721d389f4ce91f65068/jaleo-dinner-menu-5.6.21.pdf

Here's a cutout of the tasting menu.
    upload_2021-5-7_22-19-12.png
We had the second selection, the Tour De Espana with a single order of Paella.
The interesting thing about our selection is that if there is an "or" item, we could get one of each to "try"

First course was the Gazpacho. @Chrisbeans said that was her least favorite because "it tasted like V8". I thought it was OK as an appetizer.
    upload_2021-5-7_22-20-31.png
Second dish was the Pan de Cristal con tomate y Manchego, (Toast with Cheese over crushed tomatoes) the tastes melded perfectly. The mix of textures was "interesting".
    upload_2021-5-7_22-21-26.png
Third dish was Endibas, a (some green vegetable) leaf with Mandarin orange, feta cheese, green onions, and "something else" Maybe @Chrisbeans remembers. This dish has excellent texture and flavor varieties.
    upload_2021-5-7_22-22-4.png
Fourth dish was Croquetas com pollo (chicken croquettes) - another excellent dish
    upload_2021-5-7_22-22-43.png
    Fifth dish(es) were

IMHO, this was by far the least favorite of the dishes served. Shaved and vinagered fennel with green apple just didn't do it for me
Espinacas a la Catalana - Sauteed spinach with pine nuts

    Sixth dish(es) were
Carne Asada served rare. Excellent. IMHO, a tiny slight notch short of the Americanized Wagyu that BFF and I had at STK the previous night, but a great tasting steak nonetheless

Gambas al ajillo (Garlic Shrimp) another wonderful dish. Dip the bread into the garlic oil!!

Seventh dish was Paella - I was getting full and didn't eat more than a couple of spoonfils

    For dessert, Flan

With a bottle of sparkling water the bill came to just under $170.
Sated (comfortably full) , we were done.
I had just gotten $75 free Identity play and we went down to play it. @Chrisbeans sat down at machine while I went to the Identity desk to get it credited to my account.

I won $27.50 on the $75 free play, which makes me technically ahead for the day. @Chrisbeans won $100 on the machine she was playing.

We then headed over to Area 15, where the line was SO LONG and there was no parking, so we decided to call it a night and I dropped her off at Palazzo. I wished her good luck, and I went to gas up the car for drop off and went back to the room.

    A big thank you to @Chrisbeans !!!

I "had" to park on the 7th floor at Aria. Yes, Las Vegas is "back". I skipped the "ATM" (American Gods slot machine). No sense in tempting the fates.

Now I'm in my room, finishing up the TR. Called my son, let him know that I'm coming home tomorrow morning. Now it's time for bed after I finish packing.

Well, I woke up at 5:15AM and didn't want to try to go back to sleep for an hour and a half, so I woke up and took a leisurely shower. By far this was the most satisfying trip that I'd had in a long time. Having dinner at STK with BFF, getting to see @Flowers and meeting @Chrisbeans and dinner at Jaleo , it was all wonderful . . . but . . . time to return to the land of the living that makes this all possible . . back to work on Monday.

My next TR will cover a drive from my current home to my #1 retirement choice, Elko, NV.

    See ya!!!

Thanks for the report. Glad to hear you were able to exercise restraint on the last night of the trip. I often tempt fate with 20-30mins before leaving for airport.
