While there were many protests in Boston during the day Sunday, they were all peaceful. Come nightfall, other groups came out and the damage they caused was amazing. Lots of looting of high end stores all over Boston, damage to salons and bars owned by minorities, damage to historical statues including that dedicated to Shaw Regiment ( look it up for a taste of irony).

Last night was quiet in Boston but destruction and looting in Providence mostly centered on high end Providence Place Mall. Never any interest in Walmart or K mart.

first night of emergency lockdowns.. here in fort worth we had the police chief and all police officers kneeled together with the protestors and both sides walked away peacefully.

meanwhile in Dallas hundreds crossed the big bridge into downtown dallas and immediately gassed, and arrested.

East Bay is quite the hotbed of activity. Activity ranging from peaceful protests, to peaceful but disruptive, to straight-up vandalism and looting.

No different than the country as a whole.... except that suburban and even far-suburban, not long ago rural communities are affected. We're on curfew every night. Freeways closed by marchers. Looting and vandalism throughout all NorCal regions - nowhere is exempt.

That is not always the case here.

It is a mixture of bizarre and absurd to watch
    • Helicopter coverage of active, live real-time looting, people dragging goods out of stores... almost like commercials proclaiming "if you live in the neighborhood, hurry down and get some stuff!"
    • Women in front of Ross Dress For Less fighting over the discounted clothes they've stolen, pulling at either ends of a dress, as looters run past them, arms full.... reminiscent of some comedy sketch based on a Filenes Basement Wedding Dress Clearance. Taught me that if I burst out laughing while mid "tsk tsk", I bring on a coughing fit.

Permission given for a demonstation in my city today 3-5. Of course everybody is on edge that it will turn violent when it gets dark. Everything on Main Street and the outlying streets have been boarded up. The protest is on the Unitarian Church grounds so I hope their usual kindness and inclusiveness will set the tone and everybody will go home when it is over......but store owners are very worried.
