What's happening with the construction projects downtown lately? I saw that La Bayou was gone a while ago...have Mermaids and Glitter Gulch been torn down yet? Are there any current photos posted anywhere?

Makes me think that he already has plans to expand GG. That might be an easier thing to do then to renovate the LVC.
I wonder if they'll just put slots in there. What I would hope is that they put the table games there, and the slots where the tables are now. It can be kinda cramped around the tables when it gets busy.

I hope Glitter Gulch is still open in December. I always end up running into some girl from Buffalo with daddy issues...

As of 11-19-16
Mermaids and Glitter Gulch are still standing.
Mermaids has bright decals on the doors.
Area is intact and well-lit.
No construction barriers.
Glitter Gulch always had 1 or 2 well-dressed guys standing out front.
I think they were there to divert any potential customers to other venues.

Thanks for the update. I get the feeling it'll be at least another year until GG and Mermaid are torn down.

Which begs the question - If the Stevens brothers aren't ready to demo the structures and start construction on their new vision yet, why not keep the businesses open and generating some kind of revenue? I know it's a moot question but it still bugs me when I think about it.

Odd. When I visited in June, the girls from Mermaids told me they were closing down within a month, so they had a huge giveaway.

Hopefully Mermaids and GG are still standing and open when I visit Jan 1-4.

Mermaids is closed.
The doors have bright decals on them, it kind of gives an illusion there is bright yellow light from the doors.
I did witness a few people still try and pull the doors open.

I believe Mermaids is just a shell of itself. The façade is there but they have gutted the inside including the roof. I think that was reported on Vital Vegas a couple of months ago. Not sure about LaBayou. I mean I know it is closed.

La Bayou, next to Golden Gate, has already been torn down, and will be rebuilt as an expansion of Golden Gate.

Across Fremont, Derek Stevens now owns the whole block from the former LV Club to Mermaids, and plans on building a new resort within the footprint.

So I checked into the Fremont today for 1 night and I took a peek at the construction projects.

It doesn't look like much has happened at the old Le Bayou site yet. I bit of scaffolding is up, but that's about it.

Kudos to the creative usage of the recently demolished lot between Mermaids and Glitter Gulch. Some entrepreneur parked a BBQ roach coach in the space and opened up a temporary storefront. It seems to be pretty popular too.

On a sidenote, Spandex Nation killed it on the big stage between the Golden Gate and LVC. Great show...the crowd was amped up. Some dude in his room at the Golden Gate decided to open his window and enjoy this show in his underwear. The singer pointed him out to the crowd. Why couldn't it have been a girl??

I got hit on by 2 hookers when I stepped out of the hotel elevator. They looked like the type who'd want $300 just to come up to your room and another $300 to go any further. I kept on walking.

That is some good info. Now the real question is do they accept GG food comps?
