I am supposed to be flying to AC right now for a 4 day trip to AC but thanks to Spirit Airlines cancelling our flight from Orlando this morning, 30 minutes before we left for the airport, we now won't be going.

No apology, nothing, just..... Your flight has been cancelled!

To top it off I went to their website to get a refund back to my CC but they don't do that, they give you a credit to use towards a future flight that must be booked within 60 days - Absolutely disgraceful, they cancel the flight but won't refund me!

We are now going to Hard Rock Tampa instead for a couple of days!

    Just needed to rant!

That is terrible! Especially the part about them not refunding the money on a flight THEY cancelled!

Reason 698 not to fly Spirit. I ONLY fly with them on a return flight from Vegas. I figure if they cancel it at least I’m “stuck” in Vegas.:headbang:

Wow that sucks! You probably could've found a flight up here on Southwest or a different airline though! Never fly Spirit unless you have to!

Wow, that is terrible! Spirit just started flying out of Indy. With everything I"m hearing, I think I will stick with SW.

Yeah that sucks. I too fly spirit from Orlando for a quick AC trip. I’d be pissed. I still couldn’t bring myself to go to the Hard Rock in Tampa . However that’s me enjoy yourself !!

That’s why it’s best to stick with a legacy carrier. Until recently I’ve had no problems except a 3 hour delay with Spirit. My most recent trip on Spirit was returning from NOLA to EWR. Reserved to big front seat months in advance, only to have them try and sell them to someone else. Complain at the counter thought they fixed it, get on the plane after a 4 hour delay, then someone shows up with my seat assignment. Fortunately they had another open big front seat, but I was lied to at the ticket counter. Then after all this, we get to the runway, the plane goes back to the gate. Has a mechanical problem that takes over 2 hours to fix. Fortunately we made it home. I sent an email with disgust, not about the delay, as those things happen. The fact I was made to feel like a criminal sitting in a seat that most people were probably at first thinking I didn’t pay for as the flight attendant asked for my boarding pass. The response I got was about the weather causing the delay etc. I asked did you even read what I wrote. It had nothing to do with the delay, it was the delay on top of the seat mixup. I was told that sometimes glitches happen. I was offered a $50 voucher that I have 2 months to book a flight with. I’m not planning another trip this year and Spirit only has bookings available until the end of the year. I told them $50 was an insult, and the only way I would even consider using your airline again would be a round trip ticket anywhere they travel in the US. That was Friday still haven’t heard back. I’m not expecting a response.

There is no different airline or a legacy carrier to get to AC from anywhere. ACY is such a shitshow, only Spirit and Air Canada fly there!

We used to Do AC all the time from Chicago, then United dropped the route and abandoned AC all together. Then Spirit dropped the route from Chicago. Now, the only way I can fly to AC from Chicago, is on a junket from Harrahs or Borgata. OP had no choice but to use Spirit.

Spirit is nothing more than Human FedEx. We are all just cargo to them. With that said, they are literally the only show in town if you want to fly commercial into AC from the states.

Wow! Were you aware of the No Refund policy before you booked? I'm not sure about the legality of that if you weren't notified ahead of time. Definitely at a minimum unethical. They cancelled on you! They cancelled the contract for carriage. I'm completely at a loss why ANY business would think they wouldn't have to or shouldn't give a full refund.

Also, didn't they try to rebook you to salvage your vacation?

Quick update on my situation with Spirit. After telling them $50 was a joke they upped it to $150. So I may give them one more shot.

This happened on my last spirit flight. They sold the 4 available big front seats at least twice over. There was a group of very unhappy people at the time of boarding. How on earth does this happen!?

This is 100% illegal... both for them to deny you a refund, and to lie to you about what your rights are. See the excerpt below from their contract of carriage.

You have an absolute, and unquestionable entitlement to a refund.

Make one formal demand (personally I'd call them and record the call), and if they say no, file a chargeback on your credit card... which you will win, because they have no rebuttal to your claim.

I'm aware this happened more than a week ago, but for future reference, they are also obligated to re-book you on their next available flight to your destination city. Up here, from what I understand airlines must also provide options to fly on another airline if it will get you there sooner. In any event, "cancelled" doesn't mark the end of their obligations to you as a passenger, no matter what blatant lies their reps are trained to tell you.

If you incurred any losses as a result of them refusing to re-book you on a flight to get you there (i.e. foregone hotel reservations, car rentals, etc.), you may also want to consider threatening to sue them for those costs since they were at fault by failing to honour their own contract of carriage, directly causing you to incur losses.

I fucking hate airlines for pulling these kinds of charades. I hope you had a good time at Hard Rock in any event.

Are you sure about Air Canada? I've never been able to find a flight leaving Canada that goes to Atlantic City.

You can fly in to Philly though, it's only a 70 minute drive from the airport.

I understand there's a train that goes to/from there too, but it was down for maintenance as of a few months ago... I guess you'd know better than I would, is that up and running yet?

That sucks about the flight. I was waiting on the post to threaten to sue them. I've found killing them with kindness gets you much further.

I hope you get a better rep to sort this out for you.

lol I should probably know, but I avoid public transportation like the plague, so I have no idea, I randomly heard on tv the project was delayed a bit. I make the trip from Philly to AC about 3-4 times a week, never thought to take the train.
