Really? You mean you dont want to spend $600 on a flight from Southwest just so you can get a free piece of luggage? Not worth the extra $500?

I don't think the word crash is the right word when the conversation is about an airline.

I have read articles that said it was not a walk out or staff related. (crews are not the issue) Who knows. Did Southwest have something similar to this a couple months ago? Weird. What exactly are operational challenges? Maybe we do not really want to know.

I flew on Spirit once to LV, It was $76 RT. The only bad part was 2 drunk young ladies, Vegas, baby, Vegas. The baggage charges are no big deal to me, I can manage with a backpack if I have to. Want to take 80 lbs worth of luggage? Better you pay for it than me. Their planes are fairly new and no fatalities. Their schedule out of PDX to LAS is nonstop at decent times. Their cancellation policy is why I use SW instead.

i see that my Sapphire credit card pays up to $500 if you are delayed over 12 hrs or have to stay overnight for food , hotel, etc. This would still piss me off, but having the insurance would take a little of the sting out. Will anyone be able to collect on insurance?

Too bad there aren't any laws requiring compensation for these things like they have in the EU.

Sadly many people booking on ultra low carriers likely can't afford to rebook expensive last minute flights on other airlines.

Finally boarded a plane to Kansas City at 10:38 AM and just landed. I feel lucky to not have been canceled again; many other flights on the board were.

I'm pretty sure the recent Southwest issues were computer related and affected almost all flights. If they are only cancelling some flights, it seems like there are other factors at play here. Good luck to everyone flying, hopefully things start to improve over the next couple of days.

I’m sorry but we are in a situation of “us”. It didn’t effect us, good to know. Get stranded once and if ok with it I’m yielding….just not me. And I’ve flown both Allegiant and frontier……. It never comfortably til you may use your laptops now. Cheap, but not worth the anxiousness and what if’s….. but I’m good with it if you realize the possible outcomes.

One silver lining from this awful experience is we got to experience Luxor for the first time- the Tower rooms are VERY nice. Stayed in the west tower last night. It's a bit of a walk from the pyramid with the food court, bars, Diablo's, etc., but for the price it was well worth it.

My advice is, don't stay in a pyramid room- we looked at a non-smoking room and it smelled of smoke and there was no (operational) WIFI. The Tower rooms (East and West) are the way to go.

My bartenders and servers at Centra last night said that Luxor and Mandalay Bay are hot destinations when there are soccer games at Allegiant. Sunday night games, they sell out. Perhaps this is a renaissance of sorts for those resorts. They said August 1st was the busiest they'd ever seen it.

Going into day 4, Wednesday, of the Spirit meltdown and they've already cancelled 47% of today's flights. I wonder if those sleeping in airports are still telling themselves that $59 airfare was worth?

Most of the big carriers have gone through something similar recently, so it really doesn't have anything to do with the low fare. I'd be far more pissed if I spent $700+ on a first class ticket and American cancelled my flight and left me stranded.

I don't recall any airline canceling this % of their flight schedule for this many days. For example if United cancelled 50% of their flights. It would be 1,200 cancelations today.

My flight for today was cancelled last night, I was bummed but I paid $16 so yeah.. I didn’t mind it was just that they cancelled the flight last minute. They did refund me my $16  and gave me a $50 dollar voucher that expires in October

The big carriers who experienced similar issues...but none have cancelled 50%+ of their schedule for 4 consecutive days. Delta was around 20% for 48 hours. AA is definitely having issues now but is also around the 20% mark. None have run into the 5th day which is what Spirit will be looking at tomorrow morning.
