I'm going to the Hagar concert in April. I'm balancing access (walking, to the venue) and cheap ass friends. How far has MGM let Luxor slide, Pyramid and Tower rooms? Park MGM? NYNY? I voted for Aria or Cosmo but, well, was cheap-ass vetoed. Have not stayed at any of them in eons. Thanks.
I say compromise. Park/Nomad. Decent rooms at either for a few nights and they’re close to your preferred choices. TBH the strip could use a refresh…
Park MGM for sure - if you want the higher end, you have Nomad and they can stay in regular room. Good food options and good location to get to other food options via foot or tram. Hagar is right there. Don't over think it
Mandalay has the best rooms versus Luxor, Excal, Park but some might consider it too far from the concert venue, is MGM Grand out of price range ?
I would consider park MGM still mid strip Park is adjacent to Aria and shares the tram stop If your cheap folks are willing to swing for it, park is the way to go Then it gets progressively worse going south NYNY Excal/Luxor And then Mandalay Bay/Delano is on its own and significantly better than those other options in between
Park MGM is my favorite for a number of reasons, but some people want a bit more buzz in their choice of casino. I appreciate the non smoking and the laid back vibe in the casino The renovated rooms at NYNY are a great option and the casino is fun. It can get a bit crowded with families some weeks. Excalibur - the casino is a blast, but I'm not staying there ever Luxor was a real disappointment last trip. We went there after the football game for the nostalgia and the casino was a smoke filled dungeon and it didn't feel like anyone was having any fun there. The reason we ended up checking out Excalibur's casino. With that said we have stayed in the Tower rooms at Luxor and they were fine Mandalay Bay is decent, but seems like it's full of families and it's a walk to get anywhere else. My recommendation is Park MGM or NYNY. You can't go wrong with either one at their price point.
I would go with Park. You can always pay more for the Nomad floors, which are clearly better, and your friends can cheap out in the standard rooms. Its not Aria or Cosmo, but its better than the other options you listed
Park MGM. Assuming it's cheap enough for your friends and all of you don't smoke. That's where the concert is anyway, right? The basic rooms won't blow you away, but they aren't awful imo. And like @Travel Fanatic said, you could upgrade to NoMad if you wanted.
Is getting new friends an option? Just kidding of course…. We have friends (a couple) that wanted to rent a house in Vegas instead of staying at a nice hotel… I (in the nicest way) said “we probably don’t do Vegas the same”. Back to your original question: I’d just stay at Park if that’s where the show is. We’ve seen two musical events there and it’s a zoo when it’s over to get out of there so just being “home” when it’s over would be huge for me.
I will never go back to excal after my last stay there in Oct, our room was broken into and it was not seen as important to them because it was just "flipped" and nothing taken (Valuables and cash were in the safe) Then found out they have no cameras in the hallways and it was their own security person who walks the halls that broke in. It was mess, never again. Luxor was ok this past summer, no glitz or glamor, we had a two bedroom suite in the tower and it allowed us a lot of space and was clean. Just needed updated.
IMHO, the Luxor tower rooms are a great value. They're not Aria or Cosmo by any stretch, but they're decent. As suggested above with Park/NoMad, if they really wanna cheap out, you could stay in a tower room and they could stay in the pyramid. The drawback is the tower rooms are a hike to the casino. Well, the property/location itself is probably the biggest drawback. I'd definitely push the Park/NoMad option.
I agree with most, Park MGM. On a second note. MGM needs some competition on the south side of the strip. That would go a long way to motivate them to improve the quality of their rooms and service to their customers.
If you're going to stay at Luxor, the tower rooms are a far better choice. I am wondering why you don't stay at Aria or Cosmo and just meet up with the friends when you want to? It sounds like there are different budgets or ideas of value to say the least. It's a vacation! Do what you feel comfortable with and let them do the same.
If you have opening night tix, book Park now. Current rates are only $103, and Thu is $63. It jumps to +$200 most of the other dates. And no one wants to pay $200 for Lux or Excal, heh
I would go with NyNy. Decent rooms, fun environment, and a great selection of slot machines. For me, I don’t like the casino layout of Park MGM. I do like the darkness of the nomad, but unfortunately it’s not enough to keep me coming back.
I like park. It's pretty convenient to every thins and easy to get around. Nyny is right next door. We tend to hang out there but then go to bed at the quieter, smoke free, park. Nyny is cheaper for your friends although we don't care for it as much as it is a little harder to get to your room.
Yep, we "compromised" on Park MGM. Thx. We used to go to Vegas together ALL the time, but not in recent memory. It will be fun. Eat some good food, play some golf and I'll be seeing Sammy for the first time since, oh shit, 1979! I added an extra night to maximize golf time -- I'm writing an article for a client, as well -- and my wife will fly in for several nights after they leave. We're debating Cosmo or going off Strip.
Lots of great advice on here. In April, the pool may be of interest. If that is the case, I would lean towards Mandalay Bay/Delano or MGM Grand. Best pool complexes. I've had great experience with MGM Grand, Park, Delano and NYNY. Haven't stayed at Luxor or Excalibur.
I would add this is very subjective. "Biggest" and also "busiest" pool complexes could also be used. If you have kids with you or want a more upbeat pool vibe then you're bang on. For us we would much rather have the relaxed laid back vibe of the Park MGM pool than MGM Grand or Mandalay Bay. But that's just our personal preference
Superlatives are great, until they have to be applied to how someone else wants and likes to experience things. That's why we throw all this stuff out there at VMB, knowing some of it will stick to someone's wall.
