I've always like SouthPoint for gaming and getting away from the fray on the strip. Back when, I remember seeing it being built and took pics of the progress.

The one time I stayed there, it felt like Boyd - a solid property that you really never have to leave. I would pour alot of my gaming budget into South Point if it would be more forthcoming with comped rooms. I love the location.

Mom's heading through Vegas later this month, on her way to a golf thing in El Cajon. I talked her out of her regular Marriott in North Vegas and she's going to try South Point instead. I'm hoping for room photos and a full report so I can decide if I want to stay a couple nights there this fall.

I visited South Point once when we had a rental car and enjoyed my visit, although it's too far from the action for me to consider staying there. And while it was a nice place, I'm not sure anything about it stood out enough to bring me back for another off-Strip adventure of my own choosing. My recollection was that the casino, while clean and pleasant enough, didn't really come across as much more than a giant square room with tables and machines lined up (I don't recall if it was actually square or not but same vibe). The dealers were friendly and the DDB was better than on the Strip, as I think there were some 9/6 quarter machines, but there are multiple places closer to the Strip with better pay tables for what I like, even if they're not quite as nice.

I would definitely go back if I was with someone who wanted to check it out but I'd talk them into going to Red Rock Casino first, if I could: better DDB, nicer place, more of a "destination" layout and vibe, and only 10 minutes or so farther from the Strip. And if I were to put serious playing time into an off-Strip place to try to get some comps for a future stay, it would be RRC, also.

Final thought: my wife and I both won on our visit to South Point, so it says something to me if we both have a winning trip at a place and still don't have much of a desire to return. There was nothing bad about the experience; there was just nothing that exceptional about it.

EDIT: I'd also like to check out M Resort before going back to South Point, as I hear good things.

Hmmm, we are very low rollers but we get offers for 2 or 3 comped nights a couple of times a year.

I'm doing something wrong I guess I don't get any offers from SP. I play consistently 2-4 hours of BJ and VP per day and nada on the mailer offer front. I do get low end comps from pit (buffet or Coffee shop). I get better offers from Stations and I hardly play there. Maybe I'll try and talk to someone in host office to see what's up, next trip.

I still like the place for my purposes and will return.

You should seriously talk to someone! We only play slots, just penny maschines and no max bet stuff.
Do they have your card when you play? Maybe a dumb question but I know absolutely nothing about playing on a table stuff. Good luck!

We've been staying & playing at SP since it was South Coast. I can stay almost anywhere in Vegas but my better half always has veto rights when we go together. Her current favorites are SP and Aliante. But please let me confirm what several folks are suspecting.......the mailers are not very good for out of towner's. Contact a host. We are solid quarter vp players. Each playing 3-4 hours a day and we have enjoyed the hospitality of SP for many years, and hope to for many more!
