Recently I heard there was an announcement from Southpoint regarding the major casino expansion which they claimed will make the Southpoint Casino one of the largest Casino floor space In the world. The announcement stated the expansion is only 55k sq feet. Does anyone know if this already has been done or are they just announcing their plans? The statement I heard was unclear.

I think they will need to add more than 55K of gaming space to match or get close to Winstar's World Resort and Casino's 370K of gaming space.

I think that is very old news. They talk about the Grandview Lounge area as well as Steak and Shake and a future Japanese restaurant (Zenshin opened a while back). This must be at least two years old.

yup, I guess that’s why it was unclear when I heard of this “news”. “Largest casino floor space”, restaurants that are already opened, but the website sticky reflects its current news with an opening on July 16th. Go figure!

I didn't hear anything from or about Southpoint during shutdown. I hope the employees made out ok especially my favorite morning cocktail waitress Heather. She always brought me a coffee with a big smile. After two coffees she would switch me to a Bloody without asking.

I think anyone who read the article would know it is very, very old...not sure why it was even posted. Anyway, I was at Southpoint today and the only expansion going on is for the seafood restaurant which previously had very limited seating other than at the bar. It is shutdown now with a big sign indicating the expansion. That is good news. BTW...the longest line at the property today was at Steak and Shake.

lol yeah I was there in mid-Feb and I'm pretty sure I would've seen something about all this. I'll be back there mid-July. As long as I can get my chowder and play video poker and drink through the alphabet, I'm happy

Winstar is more than that - the wikipedia article is out of date. It's over 600k feet of gaming space, when you include the poker rooms and bingo facility (the southern-most tip of the building).

The worst part about Winstar is that it's that large and that it's a linear gaming space that's never more than 100-110' wide at any part that's not an entrance or exit. It is just about a full mile long from nose to tail.

Even the next largest US competitors (which are admittedly 1/4 the size or so) - MGM (LV) and Borgata (AC) - are square properties. So point-to-point you don't have to traverse all that long a distance.

Just booked for the South Point for August 23 and I'm very excited as I have stayed there 15 times in the past but haven't stayed there in 8 years. Just thought I would try it again and see if I get any future offers. I'm hoping the mask thing for airport and casinos will be over by then. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Masks are not required at the airport or the casinos. Some airlines require them along with the shared ride companies.

I'd strongly suggest speaking with a host when you're there. SP mailers are typically not good but the hosts can be excellent. I've had good luck recently with Roxanne handling my bookings. Give her a try.

I second this. Their mailers are usually pretty weak but my host is responsive and takes great care of me.
