You Really Got Me -- Van Halen over The Kinks

I don't necessarily thing these versions are better, but certainly worthy and in the conversation. It's difficult to compare music due to the social era of the originals.

Live And Let Die -- Guns N' Roses, Wings
Knockin' On Heaven's Door -- Guns N' Roses, Bob Dylan

And I like the Bon Jovi and Don Henley versions of Please Come Home For Christmas.

Dishonorable Mention: American Pie by Madonna. Woman, please, don't tug on Superman's cape. American Pie is not only a classic song, but is actually taught in high school history classes.

You mention Madonnas bad remake, and Guns N Roses, but you fail to mention another horrible remake-

If we are not talking about the video, then Sheryl Crow could probably sing the alphabet and I would enjoy it.

I'm a little late to the conversation here, but I've always thought Hendrix's "Watchtower" was one of the best remakes ever.

Also was going to say "Lucy in the Sky", but saw that was mentioned.

I think a lot of the original 50's hits that were remade, the latter version was better. One example: Joe Cocker's "She wrote me a letter" better than the Boxtops original. There are plenty more, but I have to get my brain in music mode to come up with some.

"Blinded by the Light" - Mannfred Mann cover way better than Bruce original.

I thought Sheryl Crow's version revealed what wonderful lyrics GNR wrote. I didn't realize it was such a love song until she slowed it down. The (instantly) classic music by Slash dominated the original, and rightfully so. But I like them both.

    I finally thought of one!

Foo Fighters did a version of Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street. It's awesome!
