    My Trip Report

I've been lurking here since last summer and have decided to take a stab at my first ever trip report. I fly out of PDX tomorrow morning and land in Vegas at 10:30AM. I am comped every night except for Saturday where I'm paying $37. I have never stayed at Paris due to rarely having comps there. Usually I only have the lower tier properties comped. I'm excited to check out the hotel. I am in a Burgundy King room and hope to used the $20 trick to upgrade to a suit.

A bit about me: I'm a 31 year old male frequent Vegas visitor. I used to play poker to help put my way through school in the golden age of poker. I'd visit every 4-6 weeks and play nothing but 1-3 and 2-5 NL. Things used to be so easy. It was extremely rare to have a losing trip. I stopped playing poker when I started grad school 2009 and haven't played since. The next few years were party trips 2-3 times per year and craps and blackjack became my game of choice. I learned how to play Bonus Poker VP this spring using the Wizard of Odds online trainer. I don't know strategy perfectly but am pretty good at drinking at the bar.

This will be my fifth trip this year since March. I came out with friends for the WCC basketball tournament in early March, broke up with a long term girlfriend in April and booked a solo trip at the Rio the following weekend. I had a trip planned mid June for me ex's birthday. I ate the cost of her plane ticket and went with a buddy instead. Most recently I was in Vegas over the 4th and made the mistake of inviting a girl I had only been dating for six weeks. Don't invite a non gambler/drinker to Vegas. It felt like a wasted trip. Things did not go well. I paid for her to have her hair done at the Flamingo spa so that I could sneak away and play blackjack at MGM with a work colleague. I texted her at 6PM saying I would be heading back to the hotel soon. Of course the table got hot. I played for another 90 minutes, colored up $1,000 ahead all from the last 90 minutes, and asked her to meed me at Cosmo since we were going to see Opium. The previous day I bought the tickets at a booth near Harrah's and she insisted on carrying them in her purse. We met up at Cosmo and she was slightly annoyed about my tardiness. Of course when I asked if she had the tickets she said they were in the room and became even more annoyed. I made the mistake of telling her that they were her responsibility since she insisted on holding on to them. You can imagine how the rest of the night went.

After the 4th of July trip I was really itching for a solo trip in Vegas to let loose and do what I wanted to do for an entire trip, heavy drinking and gambling. My work emailed me saying I had to use some PTO by the end of August or I would stop accruing vacation days. So here we are, four nights at Paris with a fresh bankroll, liver, and dreams.

I'm not much of a planner when I travel to Vegas solo. It will mostly consist of video poker, craps, and black jack. I'm bringing $2,000 in cash and have a $5,000 credit line at Paris which I'm hoping to not use. My mornings will consist of catching a buzz at a bar playing video poker before heading to the pool. The rest of the night is drinking and gambling. I haven't made any dinner reservations and there won't be any fine dining pictures. I was hoping to try China Poblano for the first time. The same work colleague from the 4th will be in town so I will meet up with him for a few blackjack sessions. I'll be playing $10-$15 craps, $25 blackjack, and $0.25 bonus poker.

Twelve more hours of work before I can truly get into vacation mode. I'll do my best to update each gambling session and apologize in advance for my poor drunk typing past 5PM.

Is tapatalk easier to post photos with than using a the normal website on mobile? The next post will have the obligatory dog and shoe photo.

I do enjoy dressing up when I’m in town. I have a new sport coat freshly tailored.

Good luck! I've put together some pretty legendary group trips for 20+ people, but I still think that Vegas is best done solo. My wife is a blackjack fiend, loves great food, and is down for pretty much anything, but I STILL prefer to travel solo just because the mobility/freedom can't be beat.

Side note... Sounds like you're not a Pai Gow Poker player, but if you want a good start, the tables at Paris are super welcoming and are a great place to socialize and go nuts on free drinks while on a solo trip. Consider starting an evening there, and don't let the $25 minimum throw you, since PGP is such a slow game where almost half the hands end up in a draw. You'll likely lose slower there than at any other table.

PM me if you want any tips, and again, good luck!

Good luck! My solo trips are always the best! Do what you want, when you want, and no one nagging you to hurry up.
China Poblano is one of my favorites, so I hope you get to try it!

Thanks everyone! Today is going quicker than usual. I took a break to try out a new Japanese restaurant and tried a Yellowtail Jalepeno roll. It was good but definitely not my favorite roll. The spice overpowered all of the other flavors. Sorry, not pictures.

I've gotten to write up one employee today. There's always an incident before a vacation. Five more hours and 24 patients left to go.

I was up at 4 AM and the door by 5 for the hour drive up to pdx. I dropped the car off in long term parking and remembered to take a picture of where my car is located. I always lose my car in the parking garage. I checked my bag with sun country and asked for a seat towards the front of the plane. The ticket agent was nice enough to move to to the exit row in row 14. Good start to the trip.

My TSA pre check expired last month and I’m standing in the longest security line I’ve ever seen at PDX with all of the other peasants. I still ha e two hours so plenty of time for my airport beer.

I downloaded The Great Hack on Netflix to watch on the plane and multiple podcast episodes. I’ve been listening to You Can Bet on That which has been a tradition during my car rides to the local casino. It’s raising my psych for the trip.

This exit row has made me happier than I would’ve expected. If the plane goes down I can be the first off the plane. Definitely makes up for flying a budget airline. There isn’t an arm rest against the window.

I passed on having an airport beer. This way my feet won’t look like Fred Flintstone’s. I’m not sure why but my hands and feet swell up on the plane if I’ve been drinking. 2.5 hours until landing.

Best of luck!!! I had never done Vegas solo until I got divorced early last year (Vegas had always been "our" place. I've been 3 times since (twice solo) and have another solo trip planned for late October. I enjoy it so much more than I ever thought I would.

Looking forward to some chip porn. Enjoy the trip and best of luck. Will be following.

    Finally getting back. Solo Trip.

I made it to Paris. I had to go to the cage and finish setting up my credit line. I walked past the hotel registration and the line was way too long. The platinum line was at least 30 people deep. I turned around and am at Gustav’s bar with my first clamato beer in hand serving as my breakfast!

Beer number 2, Lagunitas IPA. I had to switch to double bonus poker which I’ve never played and am going to assume the strategy is close enough to bonus poker. The pay table here is 150 for all 4oak on bonus poker. Maybe I’m wrong but I thought bonus poker paid more for quad aces and quad 2-4’s. I’ll brave the checkout line shortly so the beer is in a plastic cup. I’m hoping to hit the pool today but The high is 111 today. I may melt.

Double Bonus and Bonus Poker do have pretty different strategies. This might be helpful: https://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/strategy/double-bonus/10-7/

And yes, you're right, traditional Bonus Poker has different payouts on the quads, what you found there is what we like to call Faux Bonus Poker! It returns about 96.85% I think

I wear short compression socks when I travel and that certainly helps on the swelling of the feet when I travel, Might be worth a try!
