Looking at my spreadsheet - wondering WTH is going on 5/5 and 5/6 but not on 5/12 and 5/13, lol

I know - it's vegas - conferences pass through, special events, etc... but - that's a bit of a spike 1 week to the next.

Like you said you your self; there's conferences, special events and conventions. Looking at the convention calendar there's several conventions going on at that time.

I seen somewhere there was a big conference starting on 5/3 at Mandalay Bay. Maybe that's it?

Yes, Hospitality Design 2017 Expo & Conference with around 17,000 attendees and then along with some other small to medium size conferences going on around the same time or around it.

Mexican Independence Day and there is a huge fight with probably the two most well known/popular Mexican fighters at T-Mobile

This is the 3rd year in a row that we have been there the first weekend in May. Always seemed a little higher, not quite sure why. 2 years ago it was Mayweather Pacquiao so prices went nuts. Bellagio got up to $2300 on the site for a basic resort room. (Not sure if anyone actually paid that) What I am wondering is why May 9 and 10 are so expensive at MGM properties - even the lower tier ones. CET properties don't seem to have that spike for those days so we will be moving part way through the trip. Nothing special usually during this week so next year we are already planning not to go the first weekend in May.

I am staying downtown may 3-9. I always go the first weekend of may. some of my nights are comped. on may 5 and 6 I am at 4Q for a BOGO. not bad at all. I love derby weekend.

Maybe many Moms are getting away the first weekend so they can be home the next weekend for Mother's Day!

The first weekend in May is when the Derby runs, Cinco De Mayo is celebrated even if it actually falls on weekday and I can't remember when there hasn't been a fight. In addition, it's May, the weather is warm but not blazingly hot and all the pools will be open then. It's one of the busiest weekend every year. If you like cheap rates/smaller crowds, it's a weekend to avoid.

We were able to get comped nights the weekend of the 12th, so they must not be expecting huge crowds that weekend.

Susan B Komen Run For The Cure is May 6. I was staying downtown last year same weekend - LOTS of people.

Cinco de Drinko! May 5 - Cinco De Mayo -hehehe
Mother's Day is the next weekend.
