For me, I consider a trip a winning trip if I return home with more money in my gambling stash than when I left. I have an entirely separate budget for anything that is not strictly gambling.

Coming home with more than I went there with. Usually, once I get up, I'll pull my airfare money out so that is covered too. (Rooms have almost always been comped and I'll use RC's for resort fees).

I have to say, I have been very lucky in that 11 of my 12 trips have left me in the black when returning home. Granted, they may only be a few hundred but hey, I'll take it. I feel, leaving with 10 of their dollars in my pocket is better then leaving them with 10 of mine!

This is pretty much me today. Don't own an airplane anymore, don't belong to a golf club anymore, don't have a boat. My entertainment is seeing theater, travel and gambling. I look at the whole picture as a win if my wife and I have fun. If we each bring back half our gambling budgets that is a win with all the free stuff we get plus nice rooms. I do include tips in the gambling budget.

If I come home with a smile on my face and think about returning in the future, it was a winning trip.

If go on vacation and have fun within my budget ,it is a win. A Vegas vacation always wins out over other destinations such as Disneyland as there is no chance that Mickey Mouse will jump out and hand me a $100 bill.

    A winning trip, HA
This is all I get...and not very often either.
I don't win, it's just my natural unlucky life. (Local sports bar promotion: 100 people in a drawing for swag, t-shirts, hats, etc. They drew 99 winners. I got nothing... I am the one percent!!)

I enjoy the competition of playing sports. Someone always says good luck... My usual response , "I don't need luck, I have to use skill!"
If this is my punishment for all the bad stuff and choices I made in life, I'm fine with it.
I deserve it and it's just everyday life now.
"Always me!", Is my favorite saying that my wife absolutely hates to hear. hehehe But it's always true.
I do like reading all of the fun and winning trip reports.

A pure winning trip is one where the gambling winnings paid for all expenses. Air, hotel, food. (One trip)

...after that is a trip where my food and drink were paid by gambling winnings. (several trips)

Break even was one where I left with the amount I expected to have. Losses, but within budget. (vast majority)

Losing trip is one where I had to make that last trip to the ATM so I could pay for the taxi to the airport. (a couple where I didn't pace myself.)

For me a winning trip is if I gamble for 5 hours a day or so, eat and drink well and have fun...and break even gambling. Its a negative expectation proposition so I go into it expecting to lose so breaking even is a win in my book.

Winning trip for us is coming home with money. We utilize the envelope system, but sometimes tend to spend that money on items and things we don't need :bang:

For me, it's pretty simple - I bring a set amount of cash with me on a trip... if I get on my flight home with that amount (give or take $100), I consider that a break-even trip.
I get on the plane with $150+ over what I brought, I consider it a win. More than $100 in losses? I consider it a loss.

I stay in comped rooms only & I use meal comps or gambling cash for my meals.
Any tips are cash, so that's included in gambling expense as well.
Taxis/limos/shuttles - I use gambling cash... same with cigarettes purchased in Vegas.

    Stuff I do NOT count?
    Airport parking.
    Drinks/food at either airport.
Cigarettes purchased before the trip (even though I only smoke when I'm Vegas).
    Any Uber or Lyft charges.
Small fees on my FF miles travel (9/11 fee, early-bird on SW, etc).
Cost/value of my days off from work. (My company allows cash conversion of unused vacation days each year).

I consider it a winning trip if I come home with all the bits in the right places, (2 arms 2 legs etc) and a hangover that is gone within 72hrs or less.

A winning trip to us has three variations:
    • We break even on gambling
    • We break even on gambling and cover our in-Vegas costs
    • The above plus covering airfare and airport parking
Just had one of the rare "all costs covered" trips last week. Those are for sure the best! Most trips are losers, but we go to Vegas with that expectation, so we're never disappointed. I always say that I don't mind helping pay some wages and light bills, I just don't want to help fund any new buildings!

I usually keep strict tabs on my gambling wins and losses. Just for personal pleasure. I enjoy the challenge. So for me, it comes down to a winning trip depending if I win or lose on gambling. I keep all my other expenses separate. I have come home a loser ( no big surprise ) most of the time. But because of the games I play, 25 cent VP, 5 or 10 dollar a hand BJ, and some craps and sports betting. I usually come out a little down or close to even or sometimes a little above. A few times I have swung more extreme. ( really only once in the positive direction ) But for me to win or lose a lot, I would
have to go on a streak. Which does sometimes happen. This time I came home with half my gambling bankroll, and I admit that it felt pretty good, but that was still not a true win! But I enjoy all the other things Vegas has to offer also!

I get comped about $500-$1000 each trip.

I count gambling money as separate from "trip money", otherwise, I could lose $500-$1000 bucks each trip and call it even, when in fact, I wouldn't have gone if I'd had to pay for rooms and meals.

To me, a winning trip is bringing home more cash than what I left with.

Cash won or lost at the tables/machines determine a winning or losing trip. Adjustment needs to be made for comps.

So if you pay for your room without comps, you win if you win money gambling. If you get a $1000 of room charges comped, then you are winning if you lose less than $1000.

A winning trip is not requiring to have liver surgery when I get back home.

    Simply ----
Breakin' even at the tables.............or really damn close -- anything above that = of course !
    *
"Winning" is a monetary term in Vegas.
A "great" trip means no matter what = you had a wonderful time.
    .
    To be honest
I've had a couple Vegas trips in 20+ years that I got shellacked in the casino.
I couldn't just "forget it"...........it affected my whole psych.
It made for an disappointing trip.
Yes, it was not fun no matter what else took place that trip = and I am NOT a High Roller.
    >
    My last trip -
    I couldn't stop "winning" ---- it was ridiculous !
Most $$$$$ I ever won...........and you know what ?........I didn't do anything else that trip, really.
    It was a "great" trip...................wonder why ?
