Thanks for all of the above info @MCann. You sound a bit like me about rooms and service. I have thought maybe ubering it tmrw night to midstrip but we'll see. Still undecided about food in the evening but maybe Libertine at Man Bay or Koi for sushi at PH. Pool will be morning option daily and temps look pretty steamy so that's where i'll be most mornings. Will i have to check in w.the MGM app or can i go to the counter? i want to try and do the $20 trick and see if i can get a tower room option instead of the priemier room i already have.

Our annual trip would not be the same without a stay at Lux. We always prefer the tower rooms for sure. The pool as has been mentioned is surprisingly nice. Lots of food options that don't break the bank. Despite it being south strip we find it easy enough to hit MB/Excal/NYNY/MGM without all that much walking.

Depends on the day and when you arrive. My last checkin experience, I got there around noon, and the app Gestapo was refusing access to the desk lines for anyone checking in. If you have priority tiers, you may get there anyway, but what pissed me off about that experience was there was a huge line to get to the team of people trying to get you to use the app, and they made EVERYONE wait in that line, every time, no matter what. Then argued with anyone trying to access the desk. I had to wait in that god forsaken line 3 times, and on my last run through, the person immediately in front of me was MLife Gold trying to get to the priority line, and was told by one of these app assholes "it's not checkin time, so you can either use the app or leave and come back at checkin time." As far as I know, they didnt prevent anyone from accessing the front desk after 4pm, but they were out there well into the late night making it an infuriating and unpleasant experience.

For what it's worth, I complained to both my host and a hotel manager, and both said something along the lines of "that's ridiculous and they shouldnt be treating people like that" but y'know, who knows. Someone else posted a TR a couple weeks later and was able to access the desk. I gave the check-in/ checkout experience a 0/10 on my last stay but that was the only thing anout my trip that was really bad as far as I recall. Hopefully they've eased off on that extremely unfriendly policy. My host mentioned that it was really upsetting casino marketing that at multiple properties they are bringing in these big players and they're coming in by house limo and set up in nice suites etc. and the first thing that happens when they step out of the limo is they get treated like an asshole trying to check in. VIP checkin lounges were still closed when that happened so there was no alternative for getting in their whales other than set them up at Bellagio or Aria where the service was still good at the time.

Oh - edit: if you *do* get stopped by the app army, you might slip through the cracks if you say there are issues with your reservation and need to talk to a person. They tried to prevent me from getting to the desk a 4th time when checking out, and they begrudgingly let me through when I told them I had issues with charges and needed to apply credits and express comps... they seemed really disappointed they could try to force me to do that on the app too lol

You know, I never thought of just shutting them down cold with "I have a cricket flip phone" or "oh sweet I'll download the app - is it on the Windows Phone store?" (Its not)

When I made my reservation at the Luxor, I was told by the reservation agent to NOT check in via the app, because my room was comped for my 4 days. She said comped rooms have to be checked in at the front desk.

I just hope I have no issue's because I can guarantee, I will be calling someone. LOL Or just saying..... Oh, I don't have a cell phone. Teehee....

That is absolutely false about comp rooms. Last room I stayed in was a comped 2br suite at Luxor that I begrudgingly checked in via app due to the BS with the extremely poor front desk service, and not only was it possible, but was the only option other than waiting another 3 or 4 hours. I had to still wait in line after checking in, and check in again, because the app checked me in to the connecting room when the main suite wasnt ready yet, and the app cant handle 2 simultaneous rooms, and as such I could not unlock the main suite once it was ready and had to do a second checkin at the front desk for the main room, but that was just due to the limitation of the app being unable to handle 2 rooms and locks etc at the same time.

Yeah can concur that is absolutely false. I checked into Luxor several times on a comp in the past year on the app.

Having never used the app before for check in, is there any possibility to make requests via the app? For instance requesting the West tower etc?

I think rooms are 100% assigned by computer so unless you had a request in the reservation and host or reservation specialist blocked out a specific room for you, I don't think so. It may offer paid upgrade opportunities? I havent seen them but I've only used the app to check in some of the highest tier rooms at the respective properties where I've used it.

Thanks @MCann. I will only check in via the app if forced. Although I know the check in line at Lux can be a gongshow at the best of times.

Staying at LUXOR for the first time in Sept during the Life is Beautiful/I heart Radio fest...was lucky to get 4 out of 5 nights comped $50FP/$100RC----never really ever wanted to stay there but hard to pass up on an otherwise super busy weekend albeit I did book their recently remodeled room so have something to look forward to. Any feedback on their pool?

Their pool area is better than almost everywhere else on the strip that isnt known for their pools. It's for sure above its weight class for being a somewhat budget resort. The top end resorts' pools are all nicer, and it's not as big as Mandalay or MGM Grand, but Luxor's is very good and very large, just no beaches or lazy rivers and not a popular party spot, the latter of which is a plus for me.

Bear in mind this was filmed in winter and during still partial covid closure, but gives you the lay of the land.

We enjoy the pool at Lux. For comparison we only ever visited 2 other pools in Vegas (MB, sure it was impressive but we found too many kids running around) (Mirage, great pool but just didn't care for it). We find the Lux pool low key, smaller, less people and good enough for a quick dip to cool off. Note that our pool visits rarely last longer than 2 hours. If you want an all day type pool experience Lux may not fit the bill.

just tell them you have a BlackBerry Classic on the Cricket network, it works for me. Unfortunately, I dropped mine over the weekend and cracked the screen. I will just have to fire up the one I bought on eBay a couple months ago, new in box.

I haven't stayed there in a while but I do like the Luxor. At the time they had a separate check in line for invited guests. With the easy access to MB and Excalibur, it is a wise choice for food options etc.

Maybe the CSR told me that I couldn't check in with the app, because I did have two request if they were available.

Kinda funny, I called the Luxor yesterday and asked about checking in with the app, and I got the same answer as before, I would have to check in at the front desk. Could this be possibly they have a lot of new phone reps and they are mis informed or misunderstand the policy?

Now I am really confused:confused:. LOL As long as I can get a high floor room near an elevator, I will be happy. No matter how I have to check in. LOL

Strange... I’ve online checked in on a comp at Vdara twice. Are you able to complete the pre-arrival steps on the app? If so, I would say you’re good to go.

No idea, but if they brought back the invited guest line and stopped allowing app checkin for comps, that would be an enormous improvement over my experiences last trip.
