So how awful is Circus Circus?

I visited Vegas a lot almost 30 years ago. I visited and I think stayed at the Circus once or twice. I thought it a dump, but nice enough, and there was a lot of fun to be had. In November I visited and spent a couple of hours playing bonus poker at Circus and have postcards offering me two free nights. I get other offers, but the cheap offers make me have less obligation to play a lot.

Insofar as the atmosphere in the casino, I found nothing wrong, although I was in a slot area and not near table games. But when I look at Tripadvisor I see posts that say the casino is essentially a homeless shelter. I didn't see this at all, although I was there in the afternoon. So my question for those who visit from time to time is what is it like these days?

It's fine. It's not the Wynn, but TripAdvisor itself is horribly unreliable, and they tend to think that anything that's not the Wynn is a dump.

To give an example, the massage place I usually go to is in one of those standard non-descript strip malls are everywhere. Many of the TA and Yelp reviews describe it as "the ghetto", "all the way in the boondocks", etc. It's ridiculous.

My room was definitely beat up when I stayed there a few years ago, but overall there are worse places I've stayed for the money. Unless you have kids with you, I can't really find a valid reason to recommend staying there. Treasure Island and Sahara are probably going to be better value choices 90% of the time.

The biggest issue with CC is the price gap vs better places is small enough, especially if you gamble, that there’s no real reason to stay here given its location. It’s going to be slightly lower tier than excal but not somewhere you should fear for your safety/worry about getting food poisoning

CC markets heavily to Hispanics. My theory is that review sites attract users who can be described as Karens who like to write negative reviews about places that make them uncomfortable because of the number of non-white people. If you read a lot of reviews, you might be able to recognize these reviews you can avoid. They're especially bad at reviewing affordable ethnic restaurants.

Circus Circus or Motel 6? Lol. That's the real question.

    Circus is fine. Adequate.

I don't think there has been any significant changes there since you last visited eight months ago

I would guess there are a lot of kids there. If that doesn't bother you, then probably ok. I just hate seeing these little kids being dragged around the casino at all hours of the night.

It's been many years since I've been in there, but back then the casino was grimy, empty glasses along the edges, ashes covering many machines, the floors were dirty, sometimes sticky, it seemed old school that hadn't been cleaned since the 70's. But, from what I've seen on some video reviews, the tower rooms were worn, but fine, just stay away from the manor rooms out back. The kids did enjoy the theme park, but found it pretty small.

Haven't stayed there, but the Casino IMHO is ok. I don't get why people stay there, as someone above mentioned, if you accept the bad location you might get something better at Sahara/TheStrat
Don't see Treasure Island in the same league, it IS actually on the strip, not exactly expensive. So yes. Don't do CC for free, if you can get TI for a nice rate....

Edit: you will pay more for Taxi's/Rideshares from and to CC than the room at TI will cost you

Not true. The #1 ranked hotel in Vegas by TA users is the Marriott Residence Inn at LAS :). Wynn is all the way down at 9 :poke:

It's a Circus in there. It lives up to its name. It's OK to visit for sure but I wouldn't stay there unless I had a bunch of kids. Or maybe, if I had comped rooms there and not comped anywhere else.

One reason to stay there on a comp or a reduced rate would be if you're on a low budget and attending a trade show at the convention center, a short walk. Save on the room, splurge on a great meal at The Steak House. Which is kind of counter to the current IRS rules regarding deductible meal expenses at 50%. Room expense is fully deductible.

On the weekends, you’ll see lots of rugrats running around and baby momma's pushing strollers with baby papa's a few steps behind wearing wife beaters and pants around the lower hips with fruit of the loom boxers for one and all to see.

Just make sure it's a tower room and not a manor room. Repeat NO MANOR rooms.
I've actually stayed there twice. The last time was in "05". It's really not that bad.
And yes, it was with children.
Though what they say about the buffet was true. Everything is out of a box, the eggs, the mashed potatoes etc. It was pretty bad even the kids didn't eat much.

This is a good point. Honestly, even the resort on the Strip is going to be better than the Best Western Kent Narrows Inn. Hell, it was Excalibur that really cemented Vegas for me as a place to visit, because that was on the very low end and still not that bad.

Several years ago I was staying at Wynn and always wanted to see Circus Circus for myself. I went to the taxi line and told the valet where I was going and he yelled “WHY?!”

Clearly you've never eaten at the Circus Circus buffet.
