Day 3 continues, midnight till sunrise
P also hits these 9's before we leave.
    P-May2019- 143.JPG

Right around midnight, we grab some dogs and chili fries at the D, a perfect pause in drinking (we have also been steadily drinking pedialyte), and great way to spend the $15 food credit. Just read around here they stack food comps from GG and D, good to know.

Also I would like to re-iterate that the (mailer offer) free food comps only apply to the D owned spots, places like LeThai and Pizza Rock can use earned comps. Please correct me if I am wrong or this has changed.

Carry on and walk to the ElCo, P is disappointed that the felix slot machine she likes is no longer there.
(looking it up after we get home, we find there should be one at the D, and Cosmo)

While she returns some of the nights winnings, I plonk into a $5 single deck BJ game with some fun drunk characters in mid discussion of their age and old music, including Nelly (who will be performing in vegas soon), ODB, and Tiffany ("I think we're alone now"). It has been so long since I have seen a single deck game, it blows my mind trying to cut the teeny little deck which only gets two deals per shuffle.
after a few beers, and having the right side sucker bet pay me more than my hands, cut at (-75), restake into the craps table, and play a stretch...

A total crank is next to me, I guess he is chasing, but he is heckling shooters and dealers to speed it up, the dealer to my left is in the weeds and has difficulty with bets and payouts. A large bridal party is on the other side, and two of the ladies have quite decent rolls, but the grumpy heckler continues. I quietly say to him, "let her take all the time she wants, she's hitting points and hardways"

A big group shows up on our side and crowds in, placing bets in new spots, confusing the dealer even more. After the second womans hot roll, I can't take the atmosphere and walk +$18 (probably was up a lot more and caught pressing). One of those times I'm sure dealers made more than that on just my bets for them.

it is quite late/early now and we head back towards Cal, E Freemont is quite empty at this point.
Once past slotzilla, we see two police (security guards?) booking it towards E Freemont, and I wonder if they are just having a footrace to entertain each other.
As we continue walking we see probably three more groups of security also hauling ass that way so I guess not.
We did notice a much greater presence of uniformed police than usual on freemont, maybe it was a thurday getting ready for the weekend thing, but we liked it.

I believe we stop at GG since we know we will be dead to the world at checkout time, pack up all our beverages, Get back to the Cal and P goes up to the room.

Of course I never know when to stop so plop down with some Cal chips I still had and play some BJ. I've been getting a kick out of the pair sucker bet and watch a older lady to my right bet it three times for $5, then stop and get dealt about 3 pairs in a row. I toss her a dollar once to cover it after that but it misses. She ends with an "I'm getting tired" all in bet and hits it. Get off the table -20 and check out the craps table.

A few uncles are on there having a few nice rolls, as usual press up into the heat and end up near even, or -67. Realize it is getting late, enjoy a last drink dinking around on the UltX machine, grab a 2s company pancake breakfast, and take it up to the room. We eat that and I go to sleep, about 5:50am

    coming soon (Cosmo)
ah what the hell, for the drunks at that Elco BJ table, (they warned me singing was required, he said they hit it off when she spilled a drink on him, she was drunk and trying to sing) here's a flashback:

    Day 4, Friday, last day:
get some sleep and decide to check out the cosmo for a $75 fp offer,
rally up and uber there before 4:00 pm,
we've realized we need to eat first, instead of the usual pattern of "play a little", then losing track of time and ending up hangry, so get some hattie Bs.
Ask the counter girl about heat levels, ironically, she says even mild is too hot for her, so we wuss out and go no heat. We're not fans of cayenne heat anyways, and with the sauce, the spice level is fine for us. Beer is a Bearded Iris IPA and good.
    VegasMay2019- 105.JPG

Activate and try to play the $75 fp, the machine says it is loaded but does not show credits. Need to call for a slot attendant for help, as she helpfully explains to me, you need to insert cash in as well, and for every spin, it reloads your credits by the bet amount (with a weird screen flash) until it is gone. She is wonderful and polite, but I still feel somewhere between the offer, the players club desk, or on the machine screen it could explain that it is really some form of match play. Drop the $75 +120 into buffalo, ticket out something like $90 after first bonus.

Drop into Chandelier bar, and start by ordering two cosmos. Don't think we got the original style, these were very grapefruity, and a little too sour for P, so I am recruited to finish hers, she switches to Prosecco, then sees the bartender making many Aperol Spritzs and goes to that for her latest favorite drink. I go to fat tires, planning to get Manhattans later, The bartender is great, we actually leave with three drink tickets, which we unfortunately never redeem :(.
(Cocktail service handles us well on the machines once we get their attention and start tipping)
I notice the time it takes to get a ticket if playing slow seems to have increased- I think last time it was around 20 minutes, this time it is either >40 or fully dependent on play. P has no problem pulling tickets or hands, once again probably covering my losses with her wins:
At some point put my earbuds in and rock out, enjoying the buzz, the scene, and watching her pile wins next to me.
This is one of my new favorite VP songs, it really sets the stage, but we never really did get those aces out.. (non video version for focus on lyrics):

Drop a hundred into this game, even after realizing the fireworks are just individual triggers, and the string lighting up does nothing for you, except try to fool you into thinking its "due",
    VegasMay2019- 117.JPG
We have a running joke that slots don't like me, P rarely wins when I watch her play, but our exploit is she hits after I walk away, so I do this often. Check on her a few steps away and return to my machine.
    P-May2019- 152.JPG
Here's a nail pic for the wimmens:
    P-May2019- 151.JPG P-May2019- 153.JPG
Do a walk around the tables and see minimums starting at $15 and lots of $25 and $100s.
Try stadium blackjack at $5 to relax and sip my beer. Rules are horrible (6:5), and I get terrible starting hands, but I'm happy with losing the 5s instead of $15.
still bet the sucker bets and get a few. Note the pair bet at MSS/Cal BJ tables pays 10-1 for any pair and 30-1 for suited pairs (IIRC).
    VegasMay2019- 118.JPG
Of course when I bet the last 20, I get a doubling hand, so I race to feed it a hundred before it times me out, double it, win, and walk.

We're about to leave, but while P grabs a croissant for tomorrow, I pop the ticket in this and at some point see a full screen of vases. Double up.
    P-May2019- 155.JPG
on our way out stop in a store and see this shirt, love the monkey detail (perfect for calling for monkeys at BJ), so buy it, "thanks cosmo!", and uber back to Cal for our noodle house reservation.

btw, never thought to look up the origin of that, according to some: originating from baccarat,
The face cards, besides the normal "10," are the Jack, Queen, and King. Jacks, queens, and kings are symbols of the the monarchy. The word "monkey" comes from the word "monarchy." The pronunciation of monarchy would have been difficult for many Asians and over time the word monarchy evolved to monkey.

    (cosmo wrapup)
along with that 75 "freeplay", was a bonus $50 in identity play if you earned 2,500 in slot points. I didn't expect to get it in such a short time, but we got maybe halfway.

I think I had told P that most recent reports of cosmo play were "they took my money, but I had fun, and loved the awesome room" so I think she was appropriately cautious, I think if we shot another $500 or so into dollar slots we could have got the $50, but at what cost?

    (no bounceback offer yet:()

also, because I usually handle the double bankroll, and the card is in my name, she charged a few things for CC points, but they could not give me the identity purchase credits because the name didn't match. Cash purchases were fine, but I did have to email to get the credits for that shirt (which I blew my points out on for the discount).

    deleted double post

but hey I'll throw this in, been trying a few sports bets, no wins yet. (bet Mcgregor v Khabib ).

I'm usually trying to get my sports nuts buddies to get skin in the game and match, but they usually don't want the action, my friend was calling Raptors before the first game, these were the odds, after we returned, I really felt those 4-1 and 4-2 bet odds were worth a shot.

I thought the warriors would pull it out with the playoff experience, we will see, I'm hoping for a barn burner game 7.

Also the last UFC my UFC fan buddy perfectly called Cejudo in 3.

It's not really match play, it just refunds your bet amount as a "win" after every spin. So if you bet $1.25 on a spin and win $10.00 it pays out $11.25, win $0 it pays out $1.25. So all you have to put in to activate your free play is one spin's worth of money. One advantage is that you know when you've run through all your FP because it stops giving you free money. I prefer the systems that don't make you put money in to activate FP, but functionally they are the same.

Day 4: Last night / magic 420 comeback
Welp, let's wrap this up, I got VP to practice,
used the $50 frog food comp on the noodle house, first time trying. Lettuce wraps-alright, sweet ribs (also available during "social hour" (HH) at redwood)-great, ramen (been meaning to find a ramen spot)-excellent.
    VegasMay2019- 129.cropjpg.jpg
(details may be fleshed out later)
last night so time to go a little hard, hit mss craps, buy in (mostly betting pass w 2xodds, 2 comes w 2xodds, and 6 &8 if they aren't covered. and hard ways, a lot two way) pso's all around, not gonna back down this early, pop another hundred out, not gonna back down on double odds either, or hard ways, then another, sulk away, pit boss tells me he got me down for 420. I thought it was a joke about a previous incident (on a previous trip) at the table, but later realize that's what I lost in less than an hour.

run in defeat to P and pull out my secret weapon, costume change. Either at this point or soon later I finagle a back up $500 (in winnings) from her. (gambling money sometimes needs money just for company, or it's "scared") ---(don't plan to lose it, but wouldn't be suprised if I did. "last night, man!")
Throw a hat and shaded glasses on and stew at a BJ table for a while. First it's a really fun drunkish group doing the gentle dealer heckle. Catch a suited pair (black jacks, not blackjack) with $2 on the sucker bet (pays $60), The usual up and down and drink and drink, table empties, fills, then a drunkish aussie joins, starts doing ridiculous hits and doubles on high hands v bust card. Yes, yes, it works both ways, and does not affect our hands overall, but the cards on the table showing him busting by sucking the dealers bust cards are there. He explains its just a $5 min table, and basically "who cares". I can't argue with that. Humor ensues when another equally drunk (so all 3 of us) tablemate starts trying to get him to go play poker at the GN with him and they negotiate stakes. I'm pitching in saying his wild styles would work great in poker, no one would know what the hell he was doing. but I ultimately leave the table with them both still working on the deal, drunk aussie was holding out for half his stake covered.

Figure it's time to make something happen, sit resignedly down at 3CP, my history with this game is paying my dues by getting busted out a few times then doing some sweet hit and runs. This time I sit right as a woman is quitting. She wants to see the hand she "would have got". First hand, trip 9s.
I think this pays me like $400+ish. (she's pretty steamed, I forget how the shufflemaster works exactly, but I guess that really would have been her hand?, but then dealer hand would be different I guess) I am ready to run but the dealer encourages me to see a few more hands, and as I play on hit two full houses and a few more edged out wins. Tip her again and hop right over to the craps table.

    (~100 in, 3CP)

    VegasMay2019- 135.JPG

It's just me and two hawaiians at the table, and they can both throw. I pass after my first few PSOs. The guy next to me tells his friends tales of woe of betting aces and ace deuce but it only hitting when he doesn't bet it. I've learned by now this is torture and bet all the hard ways all the time during this sequence, usually pressing, in retrospect should have been parlaying. He misses a few but lands a bunch of his now gone friends crap bets during this roll, even getting on it after it hits twice and still catching it:
A wonderful lady across the table starts a hot roll, she sets fives up top (the "puppy paws"), and throws points, hards, more points, the guys 1:2s, everything but that bad number. It's easily a 20-30 minute roll with only three people on the table.
At some point get three way bets going for me, dealer, her, and she hits hard tens at least three more times. Hit one or two pure hop bets, 2+4, and 6+3 I think.
(I love dinking dollars on stupid hops when I actually want my hard way bet to hit, I'm fascinated with hops after watching a guy chase it all night with a nickel on every one but never got it. Aso like hopping single hards on come out when the dealers clearly know I am off in the middle on all come outs)
Once again, it's late, I'm drunk, and I'm the loudest guy at the table and in the casino. Deal with it, its craps! Dealers score huge on two way hards. Now I think of Dr mike from GWAE podcast and regret not throwing another up for the last guy at the table. We're throwing pounds at each other anyways cause the points kept coming, I think he jumps on the hard ways train too. At some point everyone drifts off one by one to the restroom, I'm the last, and when I return the table is empty.
"It was all a dream!" (I used to read word up magazine)
4:22 am, prob $120 in, as usual final SO wiped a LOT of chips off the table.
    VegasMay2019- 136.JPG
4:28 am ( a hard fight, sometimes getting whole again can be sweeter than a win)
    VegasMay2019- 137.JPG
give the cashier a fiver and walk with 10 hundys. The whole comeback really only took $200 to get going, actually just the one I sat at 3cp with. But Itellyawhut that hundy was not the least bit scared with his friend next to him and his backup 5 friends in the pocket.

on my way out, see a dealer I know, share my amazing comeback story, get high fived, and get invited to go drinking with the off duty dealers, wow, I would absolutely LOVE to hear their conversations and enjoy a victory drink, but we leave tomorrow. In 6 or so hours. Pause a moment on the stairs. . . then go to the room, to grab a few hours sleep, then pack and leave.

    skip town around noon
    get home 4:20

this came up randomly a few days later.
    please don't cheat,
someone did a bart simpson prank call to my friends bar using the name in the title of this poem:
    what is the name?

In the room the women come and go

    Talking of Michelangelo.

And indeed there will be time

To wonder, “Do I dare?” and, “Do I dare?”

Time to turn back and descend the stair,

With a bald spot in the middle of my hair—

(They will say: “How his hair is growing thin!”)

My morning coat, my collar mounting firmly to the chin,

My necktie rich and modest, but asserted by a simple pin—

(They will say: “But how his arms and legs are thin!”)

    Do I dare

    Disturb the universe?

In a minute there is time

For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.

    P report.
I believe at some point (after doing a quick walk by to check it out, it looked better than we expected), (our go to sleep at 2 pm day) tried to go relax by the pool, once she gets out there, clouds come in, it starts raining, the only time in the whole trip. She abandons the plan.

    acknowledgements,
I'd like to thank @wasilla for his recent first post on his epic VP TR, I tried to fish out details nearly to that level,
welcome @TammyE for sharing a story with him and joining,

and all the posters who have inspired me to try and load this TR with details, you all probably know who you are.
as I said in my first short and incomplete attempt at a trip report,
"When I grow up, I want to be like Joe+(Royal Flusher*tringlomane)^(BeeJay+Gaggles+Packer)+(Monkey/daiLun)"

(btw, WEHT @Royal Flusher?, he was really my intro to this board, trip reports, and Cal/MSS)

Doing a TR is quite a bit of work, very impressive those of you who do it live.
Wishing you all royals and handpays, we are still going for our firsts.

:drooling:watch for a drunken fellow yelling at the craps table, he may be clapping:clap:, yelling "Let's gooooo", always two way betting the hard six, yelling "Hokulani!" (though he still doesn't know what it means exactly, but in spirit he does), or yelling. . .

I did a little self reflection this trip and realized why I don't have the patience for slots, and increasingly lately, VP.
I hate losing. anytime and everytime.
In games like BJ / Craps (especially when you are the roller), there is at least the illusion that you could (in theory) go on an indefinite winning streak.
inspired by your trip report though, I may do a focused VP trip during this tournament, then I suppose need to focus on slots at cosmo.
Craps is my latest love though, the sheer amount of bets you can make at any given time (including don't betting, which I nearly/should have/didn't do during that first setback- which also means there is a winning bet available for any given roll) is staggering.

Just finished binging your trip report! Epic! Really enjoyed reading. I'll be staying at El Co starting on Wednesday and be spending most of my time downtown. So I will keep an eye out for a guy yelling Hokulani at the craps tables around downtown. Thanks for writing such a great report.

I really enjoyed your TR, especially with all the 4OAK porn! I'm thinking I'm going to play those Blazing 7's a little next trip...LOL As a side note, I had never played Craps before in all the trip to Vegas but we recently did a trip to the Greenbrier for a work trip for my wife's company. The casino there is very laid back and never too crowded and one of her co-workers who was a younger guy showed me how to play. I probably won't play a lot but when I get the urge, it'll be fun now to know what to do because I had a really good time and did ok money wise. I pretty much evolved to just playing the Pass line, taking odds, buying the 6 & 8 and doing Hardway bets. My wife got hung up on the Field bet because she hit it a few times early and it ended up eating her money.

What better place to turn 65 than Wynncore in Las Vegas
