I just saw a Facebook post that says that MGM has moved the Sigma Derby machine to Level Up, near Hakkasan.

The comments said that there is no complimentary drink service in this area (fee bar only) and that the area doesn't get much traffic. Can anyone here confirm what it's like in Level Up?

Boo to MGM Grand if this is true. Sigma Derby is best with a huge, low-roller crowd getting sauced on free drinks. When I think Sigma Derby, I do not picture a quiet corner where I can sip my $15 drink and quietly root for the 2-1 horse so I can whisper "I got my fifty cents.." shhh...

I highly recommend you take a trip downtown and play at The D. It's a good time and when I was there in September, the drink service was almost too good. :drunk:

If MGM moved it, that was stupid. The one at the D is so much fun, and always is busy. It's on the second floor and drink service is great.

The Trop in AC has a new horse race game. It's ok but lacks some of the kitschiness of the old mechanical machine.

I heard there was a new version of the game at the slot show last year, but I didn't go to see it. Think it's the same one?

There is something about throwing quarters in and watching those spastic little horses waggle around the track that is so much fun. I'm not sure I'd like a new digital version better. I must have an old-school-roll way of thinking. I miss the Musee Mechanique in SF too.

The new machine is tito.

The races are different distances on the new machine . Sometimes a full lap, sometimes shorter.

The Sigma Derby at the D is the absolute best for sucking up free drinks. A few quarters every few minutes and they usually come around for another drink order before my last one is finished.

They have two Sigma Derby games in Lake Tahoe and all the local ski bums who don't gamble otherwise go there and milk it for free drinks one quarter at a time. It was hilarious.

Wow I'm very sad to hear this. I'll be surprised if it lasts very long if complimentary drinks are not supplied. This machine was never designed to be a serious gamble, it is a good excuse for drinking!

Do any of you remember that big thread on trip advisor years ago about the guy who broke the glass top on the sigma derby and MGM billed him for the repairs?

BOOOOOOOO! When I first heard I thought it might be a good idea... an old-school game with a riled-up crowd in a party atmosphere kinda place with other games and entertainment.... But without the free drinks that's not gonna work at all!

  • Trip #44!
The one at the D has always been a better atmosphere anyway. The MGM one was awkwardly nestled amongst slots by the buffet before and I never noticed much of an atmosphere anytime I walked by it. The one at the D has the full awning about it with flashing lights.

The Level Up thing at MGM is owned by Hakkasan - thus the not free drinks

Forgive my ignorance, but what is The D? And why no free drinks?
the D is a casino downtown on Fremont street. and as far as I know, they are still comping drinks for sigma derby players. I wouldn't play ANYTHING at MGM.
