I'm not talking about bad beats, but sitting next to folks who are actually ill.

When this happens in a cash game, I change seats or tables, but I so hate it when this happens in a tournament and I can't move. I was playing in the Venetian Deep Stack a while back and the guy in the seat next to me was sneezing, coughing, had snot dripping from his noseā€¦. He was in seat 4, I was in 3, and he kept blowing his nose and placing the used tissues on a table next to me. One dealer offered him cough drops that he refused. When a player eventually busted him out, everyone at the table thanked him.

Nowadays I keep a hand sanitizer in my pocket and use it while playing. Does anybody have other suggestions to keep the germs at bay?

Hand sanitizer is step 1. And keep your hands away from your mouth of you have issues with that (I do. :()

First trip to Vegas after 10 year hiatus. A big reason to go was I could play low-limit "mix games" at the former IP. I get there early and pick seat 1. Our primary dealer was sick PLUS the a/c was on the fritz in the casino. You bet I got sick after that. My gf got it even worse than I did.

Along with the hand sanitizer, try hand washing during hands you're not in or you folded. I say this because those ill people are continuously touching cards and checks in play (and everything else in the casinos). Also, try and look the other way and not directly inhale someone's coughs/sneezes. Good Luck!

I haven't run into sick players but how about that player sitting next to you that has an aversion to bathing, not so much in Vegas but too often in AC!

It is as gross as the guy who orders food to the table and has his hands all over his food, then is touching cards and chips and just getting everything greasy and disgusting. I take a break and walk away when I see this.

I don't play with visibly sick people at a cash game, will ask for a new table or sit out until the player leaves... tournaments you have no choice but to grin and bear it

Frequent hand sanitizer, hands off the face totally - no touching. I now carry a tube of Ayre saline GEL. After washing hands place a dab of gel into each nostril - it prevents the airborne crap from flying up your nose and keeps your nasal passages moist. Repeat as often as needed. If you use too much, it'll look like snotty nose and no one will want to be your seatmate :evillaugh::evillaugh:
