We departed ATL at 7:30PM on Monday Jan 16, 2017 via Southwest. My wife had complimentary drink coupons and we made full use of all of them. The flight was uneventful but fully booked.
We arrived at LAS at 8:45PM, grabbed our luggage and took an UberXL to Paris. We booked a basic king room through the SHOT Show rate. When we arrived, I presented the $20 sandwich to the front desk clerk and asked if there were any upgrades available. He gave us a choice of newly upgraded Red room, Burgundy room or a Calais Suite on the 7th floor, facing the Eifel Tower and pool. We took the Calais Suite. The suite was in pretty good shape but most important, my wife was happy with the room.
A little background info before I continue. My last trip to Las Vegas was almost 10 years ago. See trip report here: https://www.vegasmessageboard.com/forums/index.php?threads/booz-golf-food-parying-16-19-aug-07.29971/#post-222966 Last time I was in Vegas, the Wynn may have just opened, and City Center was still under construction. Delano was The Hotel, Linq was the Imperial Palace, you get my drift. I work for a Handgun manufacturer. My company would pay for me to attend the SHOT Show but did give me tickets. Paid attendance is reserved for sales, marketing, contracts and warranty service employees.
Monday night, we quickly unpacked after getting a feel for the room, then walked down the strip in search of a late night dinner. We settled on Whalburgers. The burger was good, nothing special but good. We had a few beers then walked the strip then went to CVS for a few supplies, bottled water, protein shakes, wine, and beer before turning in for the night.
Tuesday morning, I woke up really early due to the excitement of being in Vegas. I went to the gym at Paris, had a great workout, made use of the hot tub and cold plunge tub all before 8AM. We used a 2 for one Breakfast Buffet at Bellagio earned through MyVegas. Breakfast at Bellagio was great. We took a cab to the SHOT Show where we spent a few hour or so walking through the exhibits. The SHOT Show was overwhelming. It was more than I expected. I talked to a few venders, then headed to Davidoff’s in the Venetian to grab a cigar or 2, even though I brought my own to Vegas. I received a few free drink coupons to the cigar bar at Fashion Show mall which really came in handy. The wife shopped and went to a nail salon while I enjoyed a power lunch which consisted of an Ashton VSG and a double Basil Hayden. We made our way to Linq where we enjoyed In n Out, then made our way back to Paris for a Shower and a Nap. We had a late dinner at The Steakhouse at Circus Circus and it was just as good as I remembered. The bone in Ribeye was tender, juicy and flavorful. We took a cab back to Paris where we partied at a bar in the Casino that had a live band. My wife went up to bed sometime before 2AM and I stayed and gambled. I played Wheel of Fortune $0.25 slots where I won $100. Cashed in my voucher and headed to the roulette table. I walked away from the roulette table sometime after 3 AM up $350. I don’t remember much other than constantly betting on Black and pressing my bets.
Woke up Wednesday morning, hit the gym, hot tub, and cold tub. We had breakfast at Hash House a GoGo, then walked to the Westin where we reserved a rental car through Enterprise. We drove to Hoover Dam then went to the South Outlets for a little shopping. For dinner we used a BOGO for Bellagio Dinner Buffet earned through MyVegas. After dinner, we took a ride on the High Roller. We used the Travelzoo discount for 30 min ride complete with a happy hour. The High Roller offers great views and a fun time. We then went back to the room for a few more drinks before heading to Napoleon’s the dueling piano bar at Paris where we stayed until the bar closed sometime near 1AM.
Thursday morning, I returned the rental car then went to the SHOT Show while the wife slept in. I walked through the SHOT Show all Thursday morning and afternoon. I met my wife at Caesar’s Palace where we had lunch at Carmine’s. We went back to Paris, took a nap, showered than pregamed before we went to the GLOCK Party. The GLOCK Party is the crescendo of the SHOT Show. They throw a huge party at Palazo complete with open bar and buffet. The prizes were great but I was not eligible to win any of them. After we ate, drank and danced we headed back to Paris and closed out the night with the live band.
Friday morning, uneventful delayed flight back to ATL.
Takes: I did not gamble as much as I planned. My gambling budget was $ 750 - 1,000 and I only gambled with $40 and won $350. We ate waaaayyyyyy to much. I’m a big eater and I think I over did it. The Steakhouse at Circus Circus is a Gem. The Bellagio breakfast and dinner buffets were the only buffets we went to and that’s just fine with me. I enjoyed Whalburgers and In n Out. Hash House a GoGo was great but the servings were HUUUUGE and I almost felt guilty about throwing all of that food away. The server assured us the leftover food is mulched and used for pig feed. The 3 hour time difference really took a toll on us. We had to take naps just about every afternoon due to waking up at 5AM each day. I really enjoyed the gym/spa and lockerroom at Paris. The hot tub, cold plunge tub, steam room, lounge chairs and quiet rooms were a great way to start the day. I smoked a cigar or 2 every day and it was awesome. I had lots of bourbon and that was awesome too. I’ve never had a bad cup of coffee in Vegas.
I'll post pics later.
