Yes some people do use Uber/Lyft for a ride literally next door or across the street. Here are a few of the short ones I've done so far.

    Wynn to Treasure Island

    Polo Towers to Planet Hollywood

    Planet Hollywood to Paris

    Topgolf to MGM

Elysian apartments at The District in Green Valley to Green Valley Ranch Casino (just across Green Valley Pkwy)

Green Valley Ranch casino to Claim Jumper, right across the I-215

Cosmopolitan to Cosmopolitan - Yes I did, the passenger I picked up at the Cosmopolitan said she was meeting some friends at a restaurant called D.O.C.G. I haven't even heard of the place so while I'm at the light at Harmon and the Strip I Googled it and found out it's in the Cosmopolitan. So I made a u-turn and right back to the Cosmopolitan to drop her off. She said it's here, I said yes it is, I showed her the Google search. She giggles with a little tone of embarrassment, thanked me and got out.

And the shortest of them all at 633.6 feet was at the mall near Red Rock resort.

Geez, my ride LAS to the Dollar Rental Car on Swenson. (1.1 miles) seems like cross country compared to those.

This was the shortest one I've done from McCarran so far.

as a driver, do you get annoyed by these extremely short drives? i have no idea how the uber pay structure works. sometimes i get REALLY lazy (especially when drunk) and would prefer to take an uber/cab instead of walking a quarter mile to the next casino, but i've never done it because i dont want to put the driver out.

We thought our Aria to Bally's ride was short.

Normally no, but there are two situations that does make it annoying at times.

    1) If there is a lot of traffic, especially on the Strip. When that occurs typically I can only get in 2 rides an hour and at $3.75 per ride I'm only making $7.50 an hour gross. Not worth the effort under those circumstances, that's when I go offline to get away from the Strip and head back to the suburbs.

    2) As long as the drunk passenger isn't annoying I don't get annoyed. I've had plenty of drunk passengers that are in a joyful mood, I have no problem with them. It's the ones that go from Mr. nice guy to jerk in 3.2 beers that are annoying.

Don't ever worry about putting a driver out because you are only going on a short ride. Any driver that stays online to accept rides on the Strip realizes that the vast majority of the ride requests are people that don't want to walk or are not capable of walking even short distances. It's all part of the business, if any driver doesn't want to accept short rides they can go offline and leave the Strip.

The pay structure, as you can see in the screen shots I posted, is minimum pay of $3.75. That's usually the payout to a driver for anything under a couple of miles. I don't mind driving the Strip when the traffic is reasonable. When it is reasonable I can get 3-4 short rides in an hour, making hourly pay $11.25-$15.00/hr. Even that is below what I average doing long rides out in the suburbs.

The advantage to getting in so many short rides per hour is it helps a driver hit their ride bonus for the week. Typically Uber will offer drivers a ride bonus of $105 for doing 70 rides in a week. Work the Strip when traffic isn't congested and the 70 rides in a week are easy to achieve. It doesn't matter how short or long the ride is, every ride counts as 1 ride.

So when you do request a short ride, the driver may not be making all that much on the ride, but you are helping that driver hit the weekly ride bonus.

I was thinking of using it to go from Bellagio to Mirage to see the show, maybe go a few hours early to wander around in the casino. I don't want to arrive sweaty. Is that considered a short PITA fare?

I was at the Uber pick up area at Harrahs and talking to the guy waiting there, he said he called an Uber to The Mirage because he did not want to walk across the street.

As a driver myself in a different market, I really do not like the short rides. On Lyft the minimum I get is $3 and on Uber it is $3.20. I do not shoot for bonuses or any of that, but the short rides here usually not worth it. I tend to stick to the burbs but even then there are quite a few short rides.

I did a cab from aria to Cosmo. My mom got I'll at aria I had brought my bags from Cosmo to aria, ran around aria to CVS to get mom medicine and was just spent. The idea of bringing my bags back go Cosmo just seemed daunting. I apologized profusely and tipped well. Shit happens sometimes.

Not really, when we do rides on the Strip we expect that the majority of the rides will be short.

Every once in a while we get a ride request from the Strip that pays well. Like the one I got tonight from the Strip to a strip club off the Strip. My Uber fare paid me $8.33, the kickback I got from the strip club for bringing them there was $70.

It's a different animal in Vegas, we get $3.75 minimum from both Uber and Lyft on short rides. And most of the short riders do stiff us with no tip. But every once in a while a whale comes along and makes up for the cheapskates.

I've gotten a few $10 and $20 tips on minimum fare rides. My record so far is three in a row, within an hour. All three fares were $5 or less but I scored $60 in cash tips with those three rides.

Yesterday I had a pick up at the Aria, but the passenger couldn't find the Uber ride share pick up area. After 10 minutes the passenger cancelled the ride, I collected a whopping $3.75. Come to find out later that passenger was going to the Cosmo, from the Aria. I would have gotten $3.75 for that ride also. So I get the same fee for waiting as I would have for taking the ride.

I wanted to emphasize the ridiculousness of that one. It probably took them twice as long as just walking out of the Miracle Mile shops and than traversing the 200 feet to Paris. Wow.

And it was immediately after a show was over on a Friday night. You can imagine the traffic nightmare I went through to get in and out of there.

...and on top of that, the actual walking distance might have been longer depending on where they were at in PH and where they were going to in Paris.
