    My Trip Report

No pictures this time although I'll try to make up for it ... Let's see - if a picture is worth a thousand words then this is going to be a looong report!

    Itinerary -
Had a comp offer from mLife, included 100 food and 75 fp. My friend was at the Delano so I thought it would be a good idea to stay there as well. Never previously set foot into Mandalay Bay but there's always a first time. And a last time.

This was also using up the last of my myvegas points. I'm tired of the app devaluing awards .. I'm level bazillion and it's still nowhere near the top... It was great when I used the free aria/vdara nights but now I get those easily comped.

3rd item was to pick up 1000 cet +tier bonus.
That would push me up to 18000 which is enough for diamond lounge access through December.
I have a weekend booked at Caesars palace in mid December in case lady gaga wakes up and announces her new Vegas dates.

    Stay tuned!

Cher! Before she announces another farewell tour lol..

Originally, I was booked to arrive late on Saturday night.. yeah, I know.. cheap fares mean your flights will suck (more). The plan was to do a same-day confirmed change on the earlier flight (getting in at noon) but thanks to inclement weather on the East Coast, flights went from empty to sold out overnight and I was battling it out on the standby list. Thank you, elite status! Even better, it wasn't a middle seat!

Made it to Vegas around noon, headed to Delano to check-in. Big plus - the Uber pickup/dropoff area is right next to Delano check-in desk. Cromwell has a similar setup.
Luckily, they had my room available and I was in. This was a "GA" offer code, so no resort fees! The food credit was only valid for Delano/MB restaurants though. $75 freeplay wasn't bad.. it's usually $50 at Aria/Bellagio and $100 at NYNY/rest.

I had 3 MyVegas rewards to use up: Reels of Luxor slot tournament, Temptations gay pool party pass at Luxor on Sunday, and $25 Konami free play at NYNY.
The slot tournament part was funny - didn't realize I could do it free each day anyway, but redeemed the award for an extra chance at not winning. The slot attendant at Reels of Luxor was super friendly, a rarity in my opinion.

Temptations was interesting - I wasn't staying at Luxor so I imagine it would've been easier from a bringing-stuff-to-the-pool aspect, though I did see some paid? lockers for valuables (though it's by the non-gay pool area). They rope off one of the pools for this party, which is primarily men in skimpy swimwear and occasionally a woman or two. There were even special-looking wristbands, although I don't think anyone was really checking. The MyVegas award allows for 2 entries into the party and 2 frozen cocktail drinks .. I wasn't drinking so I asked for a Red Bull and the bartender gave me 4 cans (!!!). Big tip for him! (just the tip, lol):haha: To be honest, I didn't stay long.. as a solo traveler, these pool parties require an extra level of social skills and, as an ISTP, that was not going to happen. Also, I didn't bring any sunscreen.

The $25 freeplay at NYNY was fine - it redeems as regular free play, so no need to actually play the Konami machines. However, redeeming it at the NYNY mLife desk was a mini pain in the @$$.
I walked up and asked to redeem a "myVegas award for free play" and the agent asks if I'm staying at NYNY. I said "no" and she immediately shut me down -- "you can't redeem it, you have to be staying there, it's in the T&C, go ahead and read it.." so I step aside and look at the confirmation e-mail.. get in line again, talk to a different person, same response (less bitchy though) and I show him the e-mail. Then he goes.."OH, YOU DIDN'T SAY KONAMI". BFD!?! :cuss:I was ready to cut a bitch. Suddenly, bitchface #1 was all smiles and so super customer friendly. That was mLife fail #1.

mLife fail #2 came at Mandalay Bay. I was at Aria Sunday morning and the agent mentioned this slot tournament going on that's affiliated with the gift shop giveaway promotion. She said I would have 2 free entries based on my play, I said OK sign me up!.. then she said, oh you're staying at Delano.. you should register with MB mLife desk. So, off I go.. MB mLife desk has no idea what I was talking about, they said I had to be registered under a specific offer, blah blah.. finally I was told that I had enough entries for 6(!!) "spins". For some idiotic reason, I thought that meant literally 6 spins at the slot machine. :jester: Nope! 6 spin sessions, 5 min apiece.. 30ish minutes later, I was done with slot tournaments. Supposedly they were doing daily winners and the top 5 scores got prizes.. so, if you and 4 other people were the only contestants that afternoon, then you scored. 25k gift giveaway points was first place, which I assume amounts to a slap across the face by Cher. Maybe the Backstreet Boys if you're lucky (and at Luxor!). You'd think the mLife desk would know their stuff. Well, guess not.

Gambling overall was a major suckage experience. MB slots were tighter than a _____. Luxor - minimal success though atmosphere was on par with expectations (ie, crap). Didn't bother with Excalibur but I had to walk through there anyway. NYNY wasn't bad - you could last a long time but their slots are mainly old and close together (not the best layout). Stopped at Park MGM to play Mega Vault (did OK, hit a small jackpot - $200? - off freeplay). Bellagio was the best experience - lasted a long time on Wonder 4 and WW2/4. Sunday morning at 8am was glorious - I love empty casinos! Got my CET 1k, picked up another 35k mLife Tier credits (didn't need em though - I'm at 345k).

Splurged my food credit at Rivea (MB). Nice views of the airport runway and ... other large areas surrounded by fencing that you can see from the Mandalay Bay area... :ssst::whistle:
Tasting menu was $120 and service was great. They even made a substitution at my request. Very nice.

This past weekend was nerdville to the max. Some gaming convention (computer screens, kids toting joysticks and monitors), followed by a Black Hat convention (hackers, not Jews). (disclaimer: this is my Jewish husband's phrase to describe Orthodox Jews)
I found the gamers to be genuinely curious about being in a casino -- you'd think gambling on slots was the last thing they would do (skill-based users meet non-skill based entertainment) but I think I spotted some playing and going crazy about hitting a bonus round. Funny stuff!

Takeaways from the trip -- not going back to Delano/MB. Points for a decent standard room but location sucked. Yeah, I'm a snob when it comes to casinos. The vibe at Luxor/Excal/NYNY is just not me. I judge by the food options available. MB slot floor was OK but not the best selection - lots of Cleopatra for some reason and way too much Buffalo. There was a classic slot machine (90s?) that was pretty geeky - puzzle themed.. and I mean jigsaw puzzle icons. A tad bizarre but it paid out nicely!

Last but not least, I noticed the airport terminal features more recent slot titles like Lightning Link and Buffalo Gold / Aristocrat titles. Move over Money Storm! (love this one, btw)

Tip: The Wells Fargo ATM in Terminal 1 (D concourse) was only $3 atm fee! I believe the Wells Fargo atm in the baggage claim is higher fee though? Location, location!

Nice report! But way I would want to do a vegas trip that quick again. We did 56 hours once. Too short! Glad you were able to move your flight at least!

And are you referring to IGT's "Totally Puzzled"? That actually came out in 2004, but it sure seems more ancient. I mostly notice it in Tunica. Lol

Hi, welcome to VMB, you must be new here..LOL :D

You'd actually be surprised at how much interested slot machines can hold for us nerds. I mean they are literally just a computer now adays (mostly just running straight up Linux). For certain types of computer people they hold quite a bit of fascination. I know I had quite a bit of fun figuring it all out when I got my hands on one of my own.

I'm really surprised to hear that you didn't like Delano. Was it too quiet for you maybe? My wife and I absolutely LOVE it and would probably make a run at getting back on MLife's radar just to get comps there except the room comps aren't as plenty as CET, its nearly impossible to get away from the resort fees (much easier at CET) and one of the draws for us is that Delano is pet friendly but the fee is $75 per day which adds up way too fast on longer trips. We've stayed there a couple of times though and its probably been our favorite room experience in Vegas except for maybe Caesars Augustus tower with the fountain view.

Btw, good job of making a worthwhile trip report read even without pictures!

I like Delano as a property except for maybe the smell they pipe in.... Just that the location is so far away from the rest of the strip.... And I like walking around. Yes, there's a tram but it doesn't go far.

Love quiet hotel rooms ... Never a problem.

Oh, I see. You just didn’t like the location of the whole Delano/Mandala thing in relation to the rest of the strip? That I completely understand. I’ve felt that way at times too. I usually rent a car now when in Vegas and like playing at MB Ok so with the rest of the benefits of MB we are not to bothered by the location anymore.

How did you like the hotel / rooms at Delano? Haven't stayed there since it was TheHotel, curious on your thoughts about the plain white visual I see in the photos.

Nice decor, might be a dated color palette to some but I thought it was a variety of brown and shimmery beige with pops of white. I had a scenic view suite which was at the end of the hallway. Bed was very plush for me, almost too soft... Shower was fine, decent pressure but better than many strip properties. Nice having 1.5 bathrooms especially if you discover that one of them has a super weak flush ....

It's definitely not Aria which is much more modern feeling with technology and things. There's nothing too fancy or techno hip though I appreciate the DnD/HK light.

    Nice report!

I have the same feeling that MB's slots are super tight.
