I'll be staying at MSS this Sunday facing it. I hope it doesn't keep me awake!

looks like an effort by plaza mgmt. to attract an 'artistic' cliental ?-----or-----a new downtown trend with other casinos to follow creating a new reason to come downtown to 'view the murals'-----would think it would be only a matter of time until it becomes defaced by amateur spray-painters or egg throwers----

The Plaza has been doing alot of things to try to attract a younger crowd. Look at their social media, this is just another move in that direction..

I like it because the coloring and maybe some of the pattern resembles face cards, and just the sheer size of it, with the protruding part of the wall, is impressive to me. I'm sure there is much deeper interpretations of the piece then I am capable of coming up with tho

  • Tentative trip planned
I would much rather have this than yet another stupid flashing electronic billboard hyping whatever they choose to hype!

I'm sure they didn't have my demographic in mind so I guess it doesn't matter what I think. Just glad it wasn't my money that was invested on it.

Always thought the Plaza looked like Biffs Pleasure palace in Back to the Future part 2.

Quick google and realised it was based on it

And, ironically, there was at one time a very old casino and/or saloon named "Biff's" very close to where the Plaza now stands. "Smoking Required" :)

Yes, based on the artist's biography and history, I'm pretty sure it's not my demographic either. I suspect I end up paying for that demographic in the long run, but that's another topic.

I could segue into why a casino would want to attract that demographic, and I can't fault them for marketing, or I could just understand the Plaza has a new mural, I'll see it this weekend, and go on with my life.

I'm ambivalent about how it looks. But I can't imagine anyone from any demographic group making a decision on where to stay/play based on a mural.

I sort of like it... but then again I like Ed Hardy Cologne and Dennis Rodman is my favorite NBA Star? :headbang:

I saw it last weekend driving North on Main St. It is pretty impressive actually. Kind of cool looking 3D. While it probably will not sway anyone to stay or play there, it will probably catch people eye that had forgotten about the Plaza. Like locals driving on the freeway. I could see it catching their eye, and stopping in.

It looks like the best view of the mural will be from MSS/CAL. not exactly a lot of foot traffic that way.

It overlooks that big lot where the historic train cars were, that the Stevens brothers recently acquired... whatever they decide to develop there will likely be a multi-story building which would probably narrow band the sightlines quite a bit...

But it's nice and very visual though...
