Best time to lure a state to open up gambling is during a period of tax revenue shortfalls/job losses. The opening of sports betting across the US most likely also helps the casino industry in opening up Texas.

I wish they would but the "bible thumpers" here will never let it happen.
it's why winstar(losetar) is the worlds biggest casino

slowly it has morphed to nickle and dime procedures

no free drinks, fountain stations taken out.. there used to be one every 1000 feet
ANTES on everything and I DO MEAN everything.
one day we were playing on the craps table and I was nearest to the box man .. and a big suit was
walking around other big suits.. and the CASINO suit bragged
"on antes alone we make 150,000 dollars on slow nights and twice and triple that on weekends.

they count on the less than hour from DFW area gamblers
I have seen the following at losestar

once at a hot table a guy threw down a bet on yo eleven.
everyone heard it .. he didn't get paid, we all the table said we heard it
box man said "I DONT CARE" I said roll the cameras
he said loudly again "i don't care" .. I asked for his name and boss and we put the dice down
he said " pass the dice or get off the table"

other times we have hit on a machine that is hot and winstar security came around and
started "reebooting" machines because they are in malfunction mode.
I refused to move and you should see how ridiculous it was to be only one the machines
and everything around you turned off.

    another losestar story:

we get side dealed by a dealer.. totally his fault he miss dealt/whatever
so he looks up at the camera and the suit comes over

so we have a full black jack table and the suit says no missdeal all cards counted
I said hell no we all want our money back redeal.

    he refused.

like I said Texas needs it but lose star will fight it tooth and nail and it will never happen as a native texan
    with perspective.

I would rather fly 3 hours or drive 3 hours to louisiana to be treated fairly.

as a side note last september shreveport la kept offering free rooms/play
    we went rosy and I
as we were playing I asked the box guy hey how is my rating so far.
he immediately freaks and runs to find a suit.. not call HE RAN

suit comes over looks and talks and says GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT
so box guy says where would you like to eat?
I say no to buffet so he COMPS us at a fine restuartant
we were low rolling $10 bets at most at risk 120

so we walk down to the restuarant and they said you been comped $100 by boss so and so.

that is the difference no antes no bs.
    just my two cents.

The casinos near Texas will dump as much money as it takes into defeating casinos being allowed in Texas.

Texas lets a megacrapton of money out the door by not allowing casinos. The parking lots in every casino within a 4-5 hour drive are filled with Texas license plates.

I am ambivalent...it would be good for the state coffers to keep the money here but it would be a real temptation to go more often if the casinos were closer.

I am trying to keep my gambling spend in Vegas because it is less trips but really more fun...

Speculation here, but I also don't see Sheldon having much sway in Texas no matter how much money he throws at it. If it were Tilman Fertitta that'd be a different story.

Hahaha. That’s good. :p The religious groups in the lone star state are VERY active. Just try to find a liquor store on a Sunday :nono: for a bottle of creme de mint; it’s for grandma’s :) favorite cake. Really. :(
Bake it on Monday or stock up on Saturday. Ain’t buying on the sabbath. Sooooo you think they’d be in favor of you skipping church and getting a 7&7 at the casino comped instead? Seriously.
Even the Indian tribal lands are not allowed to openly offer gaming :woot: although they are not residing on state property.
We are a proud group we native Texans :D Though our numbers dwindle with migratory influx we continue the “old ways”, just because. But to gamble.....oh no.... unless church bingo  or some sort of raffle sponsored by same, surely just blasphemy.

I'm down, as long as it's not a Tribal casino. See Gus' post above for some Tribal casino antics.

I like that casinos are far, makes it more of a "thing" even you go. But I can see them wanting another casino in the US

Yep Gus is correct about Winstar. I was on a quick hits slot there one night. Kept winning on it. Nothing huge but kept winning in about a 30 minute time period. Here comes security over and says you will have to get up and move from this section. We are closing it down. I have never won anything there. If I go to one in Oklahoma now, I go to Choctaw but rarely go there either. No I don’t think Texas will ever approve of casinos.

As Sheldon Adelson has passed, I'm going to close this thread. We can create a new one if there is movement on this issue.
