Trips to Las Vegas

I'll be at Cosmo next weekend and would like to get a shave and a head-shave. Is there any reason NOT to just book the in-house salon?

I tend to be a spendthrift in Vegas (more than willing to spend more than two bits) so price isn't an issue. Is there a place where the experience, or shave, or whatever, will be good enough to outweigh the convenience/comfort of staying on site?

Many thanks.

While staying at Venetian last month I got a shave at the ART OF SHAVING store. Best shave I have ever experienced. Well worth the trip from anywhere.

I've enjoyed a haircut and a "Royal Shave" at the Art of Shaving located in the Mandalay Shoppes several times..always a great experience. Ask for Jack, one of the barbers, he is great. Worth the trek down to the end of the South Strip.

The experience is great, wherever you get it done. I have my head and face shaved and I always feel revitalized afterwards. I've done everything from Art of Shaving to the El Cortez and I've always been glad I did it.

Unfortunately, I didn't have the chance to get my hair did :) last trip. But I'll be returning in three weeks for a solo trip. So I think I'll have a better opportunity then.

So...is it safe to assume that 20% is the standard tip for the barber?

I've had shaves at casinos and find that they train hair-sylists to do it and then the stylist may not do that many of them. End result...the shave I paid $25+ for isn't as good as the one I gave myself after the steamroom. I have found only 2 places that have given me superb shaves. 1) An old school barber who would currently be in his 70s and uses a straight edge as he leans you back in his barber chair. 2) The Art of Shaving where the staff are really, really taught how to give the ultimate shave. Not just a hair stylist that fits the bill for a casino barber shop. Google 'The Art of Shaving Las Vegas' and see where the closest one to you is located.

+1 on the Art of Shaving at Mandalay - I see Tammy and she is awesome. I think the Royal Shave is like $55 - not sure how much more the head shave would be.

I use Ernesto at ElCo, but AOS uses better product, and better product makes a huge difference.

YIKES! I think I do fine with a Mach III and some hot water.

At Aria they have two actual barbers that know what they are doing. I've gotten shaves at Bellagio, Aria and Palazzo. I would go back to Palazzo and Bellagio if I stay there again. I get a shave every stay at Aria, Friday it was perfect, Luba did a wonderful job. Their other barber, Vinny, does a great job too.

Slightly off topic but has anyone used the Braun Series 9. I have the series 7 which does a good job but thinking of upgrading.

This was my worry...

But I'm glad to read this! If Cosmo doesn't have any actual barbers - and I don't feel like making the trek to The Art of Shaving - it's nice to know I can just go next door.

Thanks for all the responses, gang!
