    My Trip Report

It’s time once again for a big Vegas trip and this should be the biggest one yet! And once again I am yelling, in the words of Frank Costanza, “Serenity Now!” It’s been a long spring/summer. A major project I was working on for over a year got canceled and the team split up. I was sick with an intestinal issue for two months. And I am in the middle of changing jobs. Need that time away to have some me time and meet up with friends. The wife reluctantly agreed to letting me go. I think it was because I got a new job! So it’s time to Vegas!

Plans are to work a few days to finish out the current job. I’ve worked from Vegas before so hopefully it won’t be too bad. Staying at the Mirage (MLife comp and discounted rate), Wynn (sweet summer BOGO offer plus $100 resort credit and $50 free play), Cosmo 1 bedroom terrace (25% off rate splurging), and Mandalay Bay (Friday night for only $83). Probably going to see some shows, pool time, meet up with some Vegas vloggers, stay up all night, enjoy various adult beverages, and sit in my room in silence with no one needing anything from me!

Bankroll is okay. Not as big as I was hoping but I should be fine. Going to play slots of course but I really want to play table games. I booked a session at Casino Quest at Fashion Show Mall to brush up on blackjack and to learn craps. You can book an hour at a time for $20 and they will teach you the game and you use their chips. Looks awesome! Roulette is my favorite so I hope to play some as well. Also, I want to get into sports betting a little. Lots of NFL games on Sunday and Raiders game on Monday.

For dining, I’m going to try to eat cheap for breakfast and lunch but splurge on dinner. Friday night I have Blue Ribbon at Cosmo and Saturday night China Poblano at Cosmo. I might try to reserve more places. It can be tricky when being a solo diner. Also, I heard the Wynn mixologist on the Vegas Revealed podcast talking about some of the new cocktails at the Overlook Lounge that smell like places from around the world! Got to check those out. And probably other places at Wynn/Encore. I want to try Pizza Rock Downtown too.

I also plan on renting a car from the hotel for 2 days to drive to some off Strip joints that I’ve never been to like South Point, M Resort, Red Rock, etc. Definitely will go Downtown one of those days as well. I want to check out Main Street Station.

I actually looked into nightclubs since some days I feel like I’m going through a midlife crisis and need to feel young again. Yeah I ain’t got the time or energy for that. There are groupons for club crawls but it’s probably with people half my age so I’d fee like the dad. Oh well. I never got to do the Vegas clubs. I think that ship has sailed! Plus it looks like an easy way to catch COVID since no one wears masks in the day or night clubs.

I will most likely give updates two or three times a day with anything interesting or big wins. I’m boarding now! Vegas baby!!!!!

This song always reminds me of Vegas the most!

How do I post images from my phone? The photo button only allows an image url. I’m using the mobile version of the site on an iPhone.

Just checked into the Mirage. Looks like they do try to put the incidental hold and full stay charges on your card. I did not have enough on my card to cover everything. Fortunately they worked with me and only charged half. I asked if there was a way to not do the incidental hold and they said yes but you can’t charge to room. The amount of the card says MIRAGE ADVANCE DEPOSIT $300 pending. So maybe that’s just the hold? Not sure but I’m in my room so it’s all good.

Just FYI but those holds are likely to be the case everywhere you stay.

Yep. I’m very familiar with the holds when you checkin. What I wasn’t sure is if they charge you the total amount for your stay upon checkin which they do. So you need to make sure you have enough for the hold and daily room fee plus taxes and resort fees for your entire stay, on your credit card.

Maybe request a credit line increase on your card before you go next time? Then you wouldn’t have to worry about holds/pending charges.

    Good morning Las Vegas!

Did a little bit of Strip walking last night. I went to Casino Royale (smells so bad but cheap drinks and food are winners), dodged the homeless people out front, went to Walgreens, back to Harrahs, the Linq and promenade then back to Mirage. It was a good crowd every where I went. Busy not not jammed. This was between 9-11:30pm. Saw lots of $15 table minimums at Mirage and some $10 minimums at Harrahs. No gambling really at this point but will tonight.

Work day today. Mirage room is nice. Feels like an older hotel room at a Disney World resort. Little musty smelling. Small bathroom but same size as any typical chain hotel bathroom. Shower pressure is great. I would definitely stay here again. Great location too.
