Love it. Following along
Had a great burger and fries at Holsteins tonight and then did lots of walking. 23k steps so far today. My average is 4k steps/day! Made my way through Bellagio to Caesars to the Mirage over to Casino Royale (place is warm and rough), then Harrahs, Linq, Linq Promenade, Flamingo, Cromwell, Bally’s, Paris and back to Cosmo. Very healthy crowds for a Thursday night. Mirage was pretty dead but will pick up probably this weekend. Makes me sad as that is such an iconic property. I know everything will back to normal though eventually. I’ve just been taking in all the sights. I re-discovered Vegas last August after a 3 year hiatus. But even that trip was work related. So coming here now is just more discovery and soaking it in.
I’ve been in Vegas 8 hours and haven’t gambled yet! But that will change tonight! More to come.
Down about $300. I did go 4x the at on a $1 slot for a $150 win. Gave it all back.
Lots of interesting people at the Cosmo late at night!
Good luck today! Should be another busy weekend!
Slept in. Feet are killing me of course. That’s what happens when you go 29k steps! I was up 24 hours I think. Very busy at Cosmo last night. Met some newly turned 21 year olds on their first trip to Vegas! I was playing electronic roulette and they asked me how it worked. It was a trip! Had a decent bonus on a 3 reel $1 slot. Won $150 off a $3 bet. Gave it all back but having fun!
This morning I got breakfast at the District because the Eggslut line was over by Marquee. I love the District Vietnamese iced coffee! Had the breakfast burrito. Pretty good! Checked out of Cosmo with 2 minutes to spare. Feeling rough from yesterday but I managed to drag my stuff to Aria.
Checked in early with no extra fee! Only on the 12th floor but with a beautiful view of the mountains and Vdara and Cosmo. Can’t complain for $300 for 3 nights. At the pool now. The weather is gorgeous! Sunny and warm. Pool was a good temperature too. Very relaxing! I love the Aria. It’s modern like the Cosmo but with more space to spread out.
Just going to chill and meet up with some friends tonight. Probably will hit the casino later tonight. Got some free play. Cheers!
Great report so far! Good Luck and good eats!
Got a new mLife card as well as $50 free play and some myVegas rewards. Aria is hopping at 5pm! Great to see. So glad things are getting busier again. Getting some pizza and a brewskie.
Regarding free play. Should I go big with $5 denom or keep it small like $1.60/spin.
I usually go high with FP and sometimes it is worth it - maybe 40% of the time.
Just wanted to say drink service at Cosmo was excellent!
I concur. Been at Cosmo since Wed. Drink service has been excellent.
Seems like a free thrill as long as you don't feel like it's a waste if you lose it all for the thrill.
Just got back from Cosmo today, 5 day trip. Drink service was very good, front desk lady was very nice, gave me a complimentary upgrade. Played slots, got 2 handpays. One on Wonder 4 Tower Buffalo and one on Dragon Link. My daughter and her husband were there also, and got 3 slot handpays between them. Ate at STK which was very good but expensive. Also The Henry is very good.
Went with $5/spin on Lockit Link but no luck. Spent some time in the Aria casino. Got my free slice of pizza via a myVegas reward! Not bad. Long lines for food in some places. Met up with some friends and walked the Strip. Very busy! There are definitely some areas that can have a rough crowd. It’s weird. It’s like there are very specific spots where it gets sketchy. It was perfectly safe though. Just keep moving and stay alert. When things get back to normal (conventions, international tourists), it will be interesting to see how different the crowds are.
Today, had breakfast at the Patisserie at Aria. Line wasn’t too bad. Egg and sausage sandwich and iced coffee was good. Very busy in Aria even in the morning. Great to see that!
The plan today is to go Downtown. Haven’t been there since the 90s. So I want to explore all the casinos, sign up for players cards, use some coupons, and hit the slots. Onward!
Hope you had a good finish!
Kind of lost track of time as per usual in Vegas. I will update soon!
Went Downtown on Saturday. First stop was El Cortez! Got my boarding pass and new member offers. $25 match play used to bet $50 on Roulette Even and won! Walked away with $75. Played some of the old school coin operated dollar slots. Won a few times. Cool to see. Played $10 free play on video poker and got a free beer. El Cortez was pretty cool.
Walked over to Fremont street. This was around 1pm. Big crowds on the street and in the casinos. I went through all of them. Got $50 free play at the D. Played two hands of blackjack which I haven’t played in Vegas in almost 20 years. Never really got into it. First hand I had 19 and dealer had a 21. Second hand I had 17 and dealer had 19. Super nice female dealer and cool pit boss. Even though I lost, it was a fun experience.
Went through 4 Queens and Fremont. Having never been through them, I was surprised at how old school they were. I think they have a “no renovations” policy! The Paradise Cafe inside the Fremont! Wow! I felt like I time traveled to the 80s. Very smoky in the older casinos of course. Won $80 on double Top Dollar in the Fremont casino!
Walked through Golden Nugget which was very busy. I liked GN. Seemed like a nice place. Walked through Binions briefly. Then on to Circa.
Big beautiful Circa! Really liked how spacious it was. Everything was cool to check out. I really wanted to try Saginaws. Got the #4 hot pastrami and corn beef sandwich with chips and a pickle. So good!! Service was great too!
Met up with some friends and checked out Plaza. It was getting even busier as the afternoon went on. Fremont Street and the casinos are not really my thing. I prefer the Strip honestly. I know some people swear by Downtown but I just wasn’t feeling it. Maybe it was the tweakers, crazy homeless drunks, street performers, and older casinos.
Headed back to the Strip and met up with some friends for a group slot pull. It went great! We broke even! Stayed up way too late and drank too much. But that’s Vegas!
Slept till 11am. Got up to get a shower and hydrate. Had Starbucks and went back to bed! Got up around 5pm to pack and eat some dinner. Had the dumplings, shrimp fried rice, and strawberry mango smoothie takeout from Din Tai Fung at Aria. It was excellent!
Played slots at Aria for an hour or so. I did very well. Won back some of my losses. Bonuses on Heidi, Top Dollar and a few others. $150 win on 5x Pay dollar machine, $135 on top dollar, etc. Played some 3 and 5 hand nickel Super Times Pay DDB video poker which lasted a long time. Really enjoyed it!
Took a cab to the airport and took a red eye flight home.
Overall, great trip! I probably won’t go again for 6 months or more. Vegas can really kick your ass in many ways!
Went home with $1550. Only lost around $450.
Cosmopolitan was excellent as always. Probably my favorite property other than the Wynn.
Great time hanging out with friends.
Ate some great food and didn’t overspend on it.
Very busy which is good to see. It really creeps me out when it’s dead or too quiet.
Great weather which allowed pool time!
So much walking! My feet and knees hurt so bad at the end of every day. I know this will happen but I do it anyway.
Parts of the Strip and Downtown get sketchy. Some parts have homeless, druggies, etc. Always be alert and aware of your surroundings. Too me it detracted from walking outside at times.
Sometimes long lines for food.
Most restaurants were fully booked on the weekend.
Thanks so much for the trip report. As a parent of two and my wife and me both working full-time with no family in the area to help out, you hooked me with your very first line about no responsibilities, just being able to sit there in a room and not have to do anything. Man, that sounds like heaven right now. lol
Bringing home $1550 and only losing $450 is basically a winning trip by Vegas math, so great job!
I also agree 100% with your feeling on Downtown vs the Strip. While my brain understands the many legitimate reasons why people prefer Downtown (especially with my wife and me being video poker players 70% of the time when in Vegas), my heart is with the Strip. Downtown is fun to visit and I will continue to do so, but I've yet to visit and feel like I really want to stay there. I have hopes that Circa might change my mind for a short trip at some point but that remains to be seen, and I doubt it will do so.
Anyway, rest up those legs while you start planning the next trip!
Wonderful trip report and your losses were minimal considering all the stuff you did, and great meals you had. I would also agree about downtown vs strip. The last time I was downtown (September), the bars were closed ,so nowhere outside of the casinos on Fremont could you get a drink. You couldn't walk up to a bar inside to get a drink either. You either had to go into a restaurant and eat to get a drink, or be sitting at a machine. I'll give it another try in two weeks when I go, with everything more like normal.
