Friday night, in @ 7:00 p.m. Out at 01:00 Saturday morning.

Not nearly as crowded as it has been as of late, which I attribute to the annual - but never too soon - migration of the snowbirds back to the land of socks and sweaters.

The Hard Rock Cafe has really whittled down the menu. Still some good food, but a lot of the favorites have disappeared. I think they may be cutting down on what's available as more restaurants are on the agenda.

And for those of you playing along at home, the correct answer is:
    bankroll in @ $300, bankroll out @ $1,100.

Gaming: some slot machine my wife likes. The old 'your-turn-my-turn routine', while we discussed that article about the guy having to forfeit his winnings because someone else 'pushed the button'. We agreed that whoever put money in the machine (and obviously the players card) constitutes the player, even if the other person is taking turns. Though I harbor no illusions we'll be faced with that, as we all know what the good book says: the big cards giveth, and the small cards taketh away.

I’m really glad to read that the ridiculous weekend overcrowding is subsiding as it just took all the fun out of visiting HR. I think you’re right about the snow birds starting to depart and the other big crowd driver, their sweepstake giveaways, aren’t scheduled for this weekend.

About a month ago, my wife and I were playing VP side by side and I needed to go to the sandbox. As I got up, I handed her a twenty and told her to step up to dollar play for a few hands and hit a handpay. When I returned, she was beaming having just hit for $4,000. My card was in the machine so when the red shirt showed up, I handed him my driver’s license. He asked if my wife was playing the machine and I replied yes but I had my card in. His reply was, “That’s OK, but I need to pay the person who actually hit the jackpot”. My wife gave him her license and card and he quickly returned with her money.

The café had some decent appetizers but we didn’t care much for their entrees. From what I’ve heard, a lot of people have complained about their food. HR’s slot tournaments and giveaways seem to take up nearly half of the restaurant on those days and I still see a lot of empty tables. Maybe they are trying to cut back their menu in order to improve the quality of their offerings. Our favorite for now is Noodles but good luck getting a seat there!

Yeah...we eat at the Hard Rock Cafe for the following reasons (a) they closed "The Green Room" :(, (b) Council Oaks & the buffet are not on the agenda, (c) the food court is in fact a food court, the jury is still out and (d) Rise is where we eat just to NOT eat at the cafe. Truthfully...the food at the HRC is not knock-your-socks-off special. We've never eaten at Noodles, but every time we waltz by, there's a line.

See..that works out great with the legal and binding contract of matrimony. That guy who let a 'friend / acquaintance' participate...that's what we'd call a learning experience.:nono:

We had $150 in free play yesterday so we drove down to HR midafternoon. The parking garages and surface lot were pretty full. As I entered the north casino from Winner’s Way, I found the direct route into the center casino closed requiring the detour around the old Grey Salt and past the hotel elevators. It was open when we left so I assume the walkway may just be closed during construction working hours. They are in the final stages of opening the lobby to the new porta-cache. We were told the Orient Garage and connecting casino should be open by the end of the month. The casino will consist of two levels, one for ultra-high limits and the other for premiere slots. Perhaps this later level will be like the section which was previously half walled between the Center Bar and the high slot limit room. Once opened, the demolition of the north casino will commence to make way for the new hotel tower. Rise has already closed and the new coffee shop in the old Grey Salt is still a ways off. For now, the only breakfast available will be in the upstairs buffet. They had tried this several years ago and we thought at the time that the buffet did not know how to make breakfast. The HR Café hours will be extended in the evening to help out as well.

As of yesterday, the beverage pricing increased! Beer is now $6, wine is $7 and upper shelf mixed drinks will be $12. The joke is that they are trying to make up for the discontinued $10 parking fee which went away. Staff were told at a meeting a while back that there are still some 800 X-Card holders who generate something like 60%+ of the casino revenue. I would think the numerous Elite Card players probably make up a good portion of the balance. I still don’t understand their sweepstake drawings intended to pull in as many people as possible by giving everyone one and only one entry regardless of their tier level. Unless they close one or two, they are going to have three high limit slot rooms and four or five high limit card rooms. I won’t be spending any time in any of them.

    Well, now that's interesting.

Went down to SRQ yesterday afternoon, and stopped by to pick up the latest in my SHR t-shirt collection. This one was 100% cotton made in Mexico as opposed to the standard custom-fitted Italian silk that they generally dole out. Standing there at the 'Playah's Club', I picked up a promo:

Monday April 10th thru Friday April 14th Breakfast Buffet @ Fresh Harvest [07:00~10:30] ($10). Is this an experiment? Will be buffet be opened for breakfast henceforth if it is successful - or is this just a stop-gap measure until something breakfasty opens up permanently?

Which is where me and Mrs will be Friday Morning.

I think they're really trying to transition into more 'high end consumer' sort of casino. The reason I say that is the whole florida-marketing-brouhaha between the Guv'nur and the legislature isn't about getting Larry and Myrtle to come down from Cleveland in the dead of winter, so much as it is trying to attract a more affluent international tourist demographic (e.g. what Dubai is to Europe).

It could be that the tribe is leaning in that direction as well. Face it, there's only so many pesos to be extracted from proletariat. For the Hard Rock to continue to grow, they're gonna need a better class of loser.

From the conversation I had with a team member, I think the buffet is just temporary until the new coffee shop opens. The breakfast flopped there when they tried it last time. I don’t know exactly how soon the new Rise opens but I took it to be a ways out. It was all curtained off yesterday. Our favorite HR breakfast is actually the Waffle House on Hwy 301, 5-10 minutes away. LOL

I think you’re right about their targeted upscale group but their Asian overture failed a few years back. They did build the helicopter pad on top of the garage for someone other than us though. Unless a whale is looking to take the family to Orlando, why would they come here instead of the glitz of the Strip? I think us regulars are their most reliable patrons but they don’t seem to show much appreciation who got them this far.

And that, my good friend, is the question that continues to bounce about inside my noggin every time I walk through the door.
