    My Trip Report

So we're heading out today for our favorite city in the western half of the US. I'm going to do my best to update as often as I can because I tend to forget what all we cram into a 24 hour time period.

To start, I've been up since 4am. Gave up trying to go back to sleep at 4:45am and ended up on the sofa watching Million Dollar Listing NY. I've been packed for over 2 weeks and cleaned house earlier this week so I did a lot of TV watching this morning.

Our flight leaves BHM at 3:05pm, so we left home at 11am. Mind you, we live 35 minutes (with absolutely no traffic) from the airport, but we needed to make a Walmart run and decided to grab lunch on the way, so I figured we needed plenty of time to do those things.

Wrong... It's 1:06pm and I'm sitting at gate C4 waiting for that 3pm flight. My husband drove about 80 miles an hour. He claims he doesn't like riding behind people in traffic, but really, he just likes driving his IS 350 as fast as he can, as often as he can. Men and their toys! Oh well, I have plenty of reading to do.

So the TSA security checkpoint had ONE X-ray machine running, meaning there was ONE line for "regular" passengers AND Pre-check passengers. No biggie. I walked right up to the agent checking IDs and boarding passes, proudly having spent $85 last month for that fancy "TSA Pre" that's printed right above my name on my boarding pass only to be told "OK, ma'am, you're Pre-check so that means you can leave your shoes on, but if you have a laptop, snacks or food, and any liquid toiletries, you'll need to remove those from your bag." WTF? Now I'm pissed I spent $85, but at least I got to keep my shoes on, right? I suppose it could have been worse - they could have searched my binder full of notes and dissertation work one page at a time while they inspected my Sour Punch Bites, shampoo, and conditioner.

I really should be excited to be heading 1700 miles west for 6 nights with a wad of cash burning a hole in my wallet, so Ill stop being pissed about having to unpack all my crap and spread it amongst the grey bins at the checkpoint.

Less than 2 hours and it should be wheels up! Barring no crazy weather along the way, we'll be landing at 5pm local time, grabbing a rental from the Executive Aisle at National Rental Car & headed to Paris for 2 nights (comped, personal days tacked onto the front end of the trip) then Palazzo for 4 nights (company paid for HP Discover 2017 conference for my husband).

Dinner planned at MAG after settling into the room.

Plane was late, so we left about 30 minutes later than scheduled, but landed only 15 minutes later than scheduled.

    Waiting to taxi...

Once in the air, the flight was pretty uneventful, except for some turbulence.

Picked up the rental car... National Executive Elite actually had some decent choices. Ultimately we settled on this...

Ford Mustang convertible with about 18K miles. Can't complain.

When we got to Paris, I asked for a strip view, but she said the only options were suites and that was $60/nt extra. No thanks. We chatted and her mother's maiden name was the same as ours. We're probably related.

So we got a P room - and a partial strip view!

Definitely no complaints with the room. It's worn, but I expected that from all my VMB reading.

Heading to Mon Ami Gabi for dinner and gambling after.

    Dinner with a view

    And dessert...

After dinner, I played Aftershock until I ran out of money for the day. Didn't win much, but had fun and the entertainment lasted a while.

When I ran out of money, I decided to call it a night. 21 hours of wakey wakey was all I could handle.

The pillows at Paris are horrible, BTW. I suggest requesting additional pillows.

Fast forward to this morning and I was wide awake at 4:58am. After two nights of terrible sleep, I'm exhausted, but who needs sleep anyways? Based on the amount of people I saw hanging out at the Chandelier bar, sleep is totally overrated - and so is a functioning liver, apparently.

We had breakfast reservations at 7:30, and after returning to the room 3 times to retrieve various forgotten items, we finally made it downstairs. After a stop by the front desk to replace my husband's nonfunctional room key and requesting 2 more pillows, we headed to NYNY for breakfast at Il Fornaio.

Since we had so much time to kill before our reservation, I played a little 3D WOF quarters. I'm up $62 on the day, but down $238 overall.

    Minor jackpot win of $62.52

Coins flying at my face from the 3D graphics

    And finally, breakfast!

Next up, a Walgreens run, then TopGolf.

After breakfast and the Walgreens run, we spent some time at TopGolf. When we visited last year, parking was in the lot right next to the facility. Now, there's a giant tent in that lot, and parking is in the MGM parking deck. I guess that sucks for people who aren't Pearl and up, as they'd have to pay for parking in the deck. Maybe it's just another way for them to make an extra buck.

And a strawberry margarita always makes it better.

My golf game certainly can't get any worse. Of course, today is only my 2nd time picking up golf clubs, so the fact that I made contact with the ball more times than not is a win in my book.

Even though I have no game, I still had fun!

Cue the migraine now... It's probably the lack of sleep, but damn, my head was killing me by the time we got done at TopGolf. I toughed it out and made it through lunch at Slice of Vegas in the Shoppes at MB. Good as usual, although I think they swapped provolone/mozzarella for Beer cheese sauce on the Philly, and I think that was a bad move. The calamari was excellent and my husband cleaned his plate.

After lunch, we headed back to the room so I could take a nap and hopefully get rid of the headache. It worked as I'm feeling great and ready to head back out for the evening.

Hubs wants Spice Market Buffet (for the crab legs) tonight, so we're heading there, then back to NYNY to use the myVegas Starbucks 2-for-1 reward we picked up the voucher for and don't want it to go to waste. Plus, who doesn't love a good frappuccino in 100° weather?

    More updates to come...

Dinner at Spice Market Buffet (PHo) left us questioning why we went and we vow never to return. Overpriced and much of the food looked as though it had been sitting a while. Hubs did say the pizza was decent, but he had turkey and said it was really dry.

They do still have crab legs (cold, pre-sliced, but hot for Platinum and up).

Definitely not worth the price ($62 using quick rewards).

I was trying to get a decent selfie to send back to my 10 year old daughter, but with two days of little sleep and 100° heat, this was the best I could do...

Played a while at Paris with no major wins, but I think I did enough coin-in over two days that they won't complain.

Finally tally on my step count for the day... And I had forgotten to turn my watch on for the first two hours we were out and about!

This morning we headed to Le Village Buffet. It's always on our list when we are in town, and as usual, it did not disappoint. The crepes are delicious and my husband loves the fact that he can walk up and ask for a thick cut of slab bacon. Our server was fantastic. I wish I had noted his name, because he deserved to be recognized for how pleasant he was. He always had a huge smile on his face.

Strawberry Ricotta Crepe. It was so full of giant strawberries, the crepe popped open on the side.

Slab bacon in the front with two large hams in the background

And afterwards, a little more Aftershock...

    Two small wins

We wandered the property a bit and visited the pool, but given it was close to check out time, we didn't get in the water. I have to say the pool deck looks very old and warn, much like the rooms. It could use a good pressure washing and some new loungers.

Checked out and headed to Palazzo for the remainder of the trip!

After checking in (and waiting for a room with a king bed), we decided to head to Mirage to redeem my Carnegie Deli Cheesecake reward from myVegas. It was good, but I don't think it was $12 good, so I'm glad it was free.

The pictures really don't show just how large the damn thing is, so my husband held his Samsung S7 up beside it for comparison...

    We couldn't finish it all.

The free cheesecake reminds me... We wandered back over to NYNY last night after dinner to use our Starbucks 2-for-1. When we went to redeem it at the Mlife desk, she asked if we wanted to use it at the Mezzanine location or the one on the casino floor. We said casino floor and it was printed on the voucher. It was for $10 as others have said, so I paid the remaining $2.71 out of pocket.

Now back to Palazzo as our room is finally ready!

Great start and I'm glad the headache disappeared. Make sure your husband gets the crab legs warmed up. They are way better that way.

Where is the thread for shitty views?

It's not all bad since the High Roller is to the right.

Great views of planes coming and going. Almost as good as the time we stayed at MGM ::eyeroll::

I guess that's what you get when it's conference group rate?!

We had an awesome view of the High Roller from our room at Bally's in the Jubilee tower last month. I never noticed that it changed colors at night. At least the company is paying for that wonderful view. Good luck on the gambling front.

I knew it changed colors from riding it last year, but it seems to be different than colors this year. Maybe it's just my imagination. It's really pretty to watch, so I'm looking forward to seeing it from the room tonight.

Agreed that company paid makes the view not so bad!

Did I mention it's hot in Paradise this week? 105° today (and yesterday). Good thing the Palazzo pool deck is shaded much of the morning.

We drove out to the Pinball Hall of Fame because weve said the last three tips we wanted to go but never made it. There were some really cool machines/games there. I'm not much for Pinball but I really enjoyed the few that I played.

We're having NFI at NYNY tonight before seeing Ka at MGM. We each got a myVegas reward to use for dinner, as well as the tickets to Ka.

There is an open house at the Ka Theater tomorrow, but I'm having lunch at Mesa Grill, so I'll be skipping that. It sounded pretty interesting.

NFI was great as usual. We each got the 2-for-1 entree reward, which gave us each $35. $70 to cover the meal should be plenty!

I got the Irish Nachos with corned beef.

Hubs got the Filet and a side of fries.

I got the bread and butter pudding for dessert, but forgot to take a picture of it. Basically bread pudding with a layer of raisins in the middle, served with caramel and Jameson whiskey sauces on the side.

Total bill was something like $75 with tax, minus the $70 from the myVegas rewards, which they treat as a true comp, so no taxes, for a grand total of $0.54!

Next up was Ka. We got to the theater about 20 minutes early and got seated rather quickly. Decent seats - Section 203, Row HH, seats 1 and 2. Again, these were myVegas rewards, so we didn't pay anything to see the show. So many people came in late that we missed the short pre-show entertainment for them walking up the aisles to their seats. And by late, I mean people were still filing in at 7:20. I just think that's tacky - especially when there's a large group of people all arriving late.

I enjoyed the acrobatics, but the "story line" was difficult to follow. I'm glad I didn't pay for the tickets because I probably would have left unhappy. Everyone exiting around us seemed to really enjoy it, but I think once you've seen any Cirque show, you've pretty much seen them all.

    View from my aisle seat...

    Various images of the theater...

One thing I did like about the show was that there are speakers built into the headrests of the seats. Great for sound effects.

On the way back to the car, we noticed the WCWS Game 1 (Florida/Oklahoma) was still going... In the 15th inning! We stopped to watch a couple pitches and struck up a conversation with a couple watching it also. They asked who we were pulling for, so I said Florida because, um, Southeastern Conference. Of course they said Oklahoma. One, because they live in OK, and two, their daughter's friend, Sammy, just got accepted to OU to play softball, which is pretty cool. Really, I don't much care which one wins. In some ways, I want OU to take it because I'm an Auburn fan, and they beat AU softball to win it last year, but because UF is in the SEC, I'd sort of like them to win.

By the time we drove back to Palazzo, the game was over, so I had to listen to Beth Mowins for a minute to find out OU won. Looked to be one heck of a game. I quickly crashed after hearing the final results.

My alarm went off at 6am so my husband and I could eat breakfast together before he headed over to the Sands Convention Center for his first conference session. I laid in bed until 6:30am. This vacation thing is wearing me out. Little sleep and lots of walking plus extreme desert heat. Maybe I'm just a sissy.

    Grand Luxe for breakfast. Delicious.

    My Churros French Toast...

    Hubs' chicken and waffles...

So much food! I ate one and a half of those 4 giant pieces of French toast and two bites of chicken.

After breakfast, I went to lounge by the pool and work on some grad school stuff, but one of the others wives came down to join me, so we just chatted until I headed back to my room to get ready for lunch at Mesa Grill at Caesars.

    Bread basket

    Honey Ancho Glazed Salmon

    Cactus Pear Margarita

    Chocolate Toffee Sticky Pudding

I'm a glutton. Best meal I've had so far this trip. Amazing as always.

Nice update! I was a bit annoyed when I heard the softball game went 17 innings last night. I was up just like I am now.

Sorry you got the air conditioner view. We got that at Mirage once, but at least it was quiet...lol
